Metro... metro... metro.......

I hate metro. The data speeds here in DFW are absolute crap. My "3G" compared to a friend with the iPhone 4's 3G on speedtest his totally blows mine out of the water. (I have the huawei ascend, with icarus on it. Phone works well enough for my tastes, but the data ohhhhh myyyyy godddddddd so slow) It's not a location thing too, I am all around dallas and my phone speeds remain remarkably slow.

So, I'm thinking about moving to T-mobile, they have a somewhat comparable plan, and I am bringing the wife along.

And then metro comes out with this phone... which looks passable and like the first real, quality android phone released to date by them. But I am hesitant to buy an expensive phone with them in case the data turns out to be incredibly slow. I have a lot of downtime at work, and would love to be able to stream videos without a wifi connection.

Does ANYONE on this forum live in the DFW area with a 4G "LTE" metro phone? How is the data speed? More specifically, how does it compare to the data speeds of one of the major carriers?

Did you take into consideration that metro's 3g is still capped at this time? So no surprise if uncapped 3g destroys it.

metropcs isnt sending out 3g signals its only 4g. they are not building towers to support 3g it would be a waste of money. they are only building 4g.

Metro started rolling out 3G on about 20% of their towers to help alleviate the stress smartphones where putting on the network. The 3G speeds are capped, but in the Daytona Beach area 1x speeds are between 60-100Kbs and the 3G speeds are between 90-200Kbs. Of course 4G speeds here are between 1-5Mbs so if your looking for faster service 4G is the way to go.

Agreed. Metro jumped to 4G LTE to be ahead of the race. Which they were in the US.

Once they started selling Androids (LG Optimus for e.g. over 2mil in the first month), their 1xrtt servers where, well lets say..not holding the load. So, they HAVE to invest in Evdo (3G) equip to hand the mass amount of user on data.

Therefore, Metro now has 1x, Evdo (3G), LTE (4G).

Just like all the other cell providers, at some point they never realize what will really happen with the users and equip.

Learn as we go..
