Screen too big?

Anyone else concerned that the screen for this guy is too big?

I'm kind of hoping that Sammy/Google went back to the drawing board and decided to bump the screen down to 4". I feel like the 4.65" was more of a pissing match with Apple to see whose was bigger. We now know that Apple's is smaller, of course The Nexus S's 4" screen is the perfect form factor IMHO and this tablet/phone trend is a bit of a downer. I like having some pocketability. I see phones like the Droid X and think they look ridiculous.

Any other thoughts? I hear the size will be more comparable to a 4.3" phone due to the onscreen buttons. I'm still not sold, but I guess the jury is out. Might be a little while till we see this thing in the flesh.

I think 4.3 is still the perfect size, with 4.5 being alrigh tif you're the daring type. Though at the end of the wya, it' sall bout how much excess phone is showing. If you look at the iphone 4, they could easily make the phone a little shorter and a little wider, and stretch the screen to 4" because there is so much unused space. I'm hoping the nexus will have this because 4.65" is already massive but if you have a bucnh of non-screen real estate on the phone that just makes it even bigger.

I am going to wait and see it first and then decide. if they keep the relative size close to the 4.3 inch screened phones now I will be fine. If it is any larger than the charge I may have to pass.

Ya 4.3 might be the go to size for future phones. It's interesting that the EVO was the first to do it, and that was over a year ago. Lots of other phones have followed suit. I've been using a DINC for the last year and a half, and I'm definitely feeling ready for an upgrade. It was nice when it came out, but after playing around with a Nexus S, I'm completely over the smaller/crappier screen.

I give Apple kudos for having the balls to not give in to industry pressure and upsize their screen. With all the complaints from the geek communities, I think it's inevitable that their next phone will be in the 4" category. Even still, I think the iP4 is a great phone at its current size.

All in all, I really want a nexus device for my next phone. However, pocketability is a huge factor for me, and if the prime is too big, I'll pass. Time will tell

4.65" sounds fine to me. I have a "ridiculous" Droid X and it's not at all too big. A little larger wouldn't hurt. I like the real estate.

Why wouldn't you want a bigger screen? 4.7" in my opinion is a perfect size. I wish makers would start making less black borders and more screen. Less borders + more screen = hardly changing the overall size of the phone.

I'd be totally happy with a 4.65" device in a 5.25" - 5.65" form factor. 6" is getting a bit big, but its a smart phone.

That tiny ifone screen is the worst part about the phone. People are missing the point that the 4.65 is the same size physically as the 4.3 from what is being reported just that no physicaly buttons taking away from the total size of the phone. Even if this is wrong info, I'm all for a bit larger screen than even 4.3. Sorry, I don't want a mini screen on a phone that can do so much. 4.5 ish would be about the limit however. More than screen size is the thickness/bulkiness of the phone that makes things cumbersome.

the thing is the way the iphone ratio is it is actually wider than most 3.7-4 inch screens on android since android phones use a 16:9 ratio.

It's still a SMALL screen by comparison. 3.7" screens are going to become a rarity. 4" screens will be considered smallish. 4.3 is OK, but I have been waiting for something a bit bigger. What we can expect is more screen, less bezel and wasted space. Thinner phones overall too. I can see 4.5 to 4.7 becoming the "ideal" under these circumstances.

+1. I couldn't agree more. Only downside is some of the screen is being used for the navigation control at the bottom. I would say this is probably the thing i'm most excited about with this phone, well its a toss up between that and ICS.

Here's the thing i was one of those people that would say that anything bigger than a 4 inch screen is too big. Thats one of the reasons i jumped on the g2x and wasnt interested in the sensation. That is until my wife got a sensation and i realized that the phones were almost identical in size. Whether the screen feels to big depends on a few things. Is there waisted screen real estate with a huge bezel? How long or wide is the phone? How thin is the phone?

I for one thought that the galaxy s2 for tmobile and sprint sounded mounstous. That is till i held the sprint version and saw how light and thin it was. It fit inside my jeans 5th pocket(my place for keeping my phone). The thing is that it felt great in the hands because it was so thin and light. And lets face it now that phones are able to consume so much more media (reading books, watching movies and netflixs, browsing the web) i welcome the larger screen.

I agree if they remove or lessen the bezel than yes I would be fine with bigger the thing is they aren't making the bezel much smaller so the phones are getting really large.

Keep in mind that they're eliminating the button area on the bottom so the phone size should not increase much over the current crop of 4.3" screens, if at all.

The video looks like a tiny bezel - assuming the person in the video has normal sized hands, it appears to be approximately the same size as my Droid X.

I define "too big" by whether I can easily take out or put in the phone into my pocket. From an aesthetic consideration, I don't understand why smaller is better. A smaller touch screen is a harder-to-use touch screen. Harder to read. Less enjoyable to watch video or view photos.

I'd say my upper limit is 5". That's getting pretty bulky and would probably be hard in jeans. Especially if I chose to put a case on it.

I fat finger while typing like crazy on the iPhone. And it's because the screen is so damn small. Pixel density doesn't change the physical size of the buttons.

Resolution is not a substitute for physical size. I think 3.5" is too small - I'm thinking 4" is the sweet spot but I'd prefer slightly bigger than too small.
