Rooted Dreams and outgoing calls redirected to Rogers.

He all just a quick question for those of you with rooted phones. Today Rogers started redirecting outgoing calls from non-updated dreams through to rogers CSR's and I was wondering what roms people were running that didnt get a call redirected.

I'm running cyanogen 4.2.13 but I still have the origional Rogers EBI1 radio. My daughter was using the dream and even after putting her sim card back into her shine she was still redirected until she spoke to a csr. After speaking to CSR her calls were ok again.

I finally gave in and flashed their...
Sorry to hear about your loss. :(

I know a guy that has a friend that knows a guy.... with cyan on Magic that isn't having any redirects or data loss. He got data back on the 1st weekend and the only issues since then are the pestering texts and robocalls. There was even a cyan update during this crisis and all is still ok.

Anywhere that I've seen the question asked about the 911 bug the answer has been no problem and I've even been shown the code fix. The only one that I'm not positive about is the HoFo ROM that was a Sense UI ROM. However the HoFo maintainer has stopped devel and suggested going to CursorSense for a similar but newer Sense experience. Also funny is a Gyd ROM that seems to be based on the roger ROM and fixes specific issues we're having (like the french qwerty kb). I'm betting that an OTA update is coming next week.

Before this gets out of hand or the next goofy surprise I don't see anything better than an actual 911 test. Since they didn't think about implementing an e911 test number they should schedule a test period. Whatever way that might be done if we make an actual 911 call then everyone can be sure. I'm sure that they could devise a real test. I've done a test before and you get an automated pass/fail and a chance to verify all the information that is supposed to be delivered.

....that we could just spoof the new version?
;)

Actually I'm not interested in spoofing the big R. A rooted phone looses warranty but nothing says I can't run one if it doesn't pose a hazard. My suggestion is to buy an unlocked phone. the guy that I know.. has a contract phone with the updated ROM but is SIM'd to his daughter. He runs an unlocked phone with a shiny new 1.6 ROM. All is well and nobody here is fearful of the phones.

We can say a million things about R but the only lesson I get is to go unlocked without a contract. I'll never do a contract and I'll never depend on the cell number to keep me hostage; like email I'll always give out a number that I control and ring group my cell (at whatever provider I use), a la google voice style.

Actually you can't go without contract either. Month-to-month is no longer available. New set-up means a minimum 1 year contract now.
wow, welcome to Kanada. They really really don't want anyone that they can't totally control no matter how tiny the percentage. They came within a few hours of loosing me forever. I didn't like the data shutdown but giving them the benefit of the doubt I got mine back within the promised 24 hrs so I didn't bark too loudly about it. My expectations were so low that I took it in stride. I just want a working phone and usable data. Right now I have that. But I'm not confident there won't be another surprise this week. Maybe we'll get good news instead of another one of these lawyer inspired tactics.

Are you kidding me? Just because a call isn't being made to 911 doesn't mean it can't be an emergency.

This has seriously gone too far.

I'm going to cancel my Magic offer so my contract will expire asap.

I will also never buy a locked phone, get into another contract and never be a Rogers customer again. I will also make sure everyone I know doesn't become a Rogers customer.

I don't think this situation could have been handled any worse.

Ridiculous... to say the least... I agree, Rogers couldn't have handled this situation any worse. They need to make ammends, and now.

Here's how I'd sum up Rogers' dealings with this whole situation:

Nuff said.

Dream and Magic.

I was on Amon RA's 1.6.3 rom (with old radio) and my calls started getting redirected last night. The tech took off the redirect, but I lost my data. I finally gave in and flashed their stupid update this morning (though not with their updater, so I'm not stuck ;))

By the sounds of it we can probably bs our way past the CSR's and then get another network refresh to clear up the issue.

Do you still have the Rogers EBI1 radio or are you using a G1 radio?

He followed the same guide I did so he should have EBI1

Mines still working. I haven't got any text messages from HTC lately. I blocked their phone calls so I dont know if they've been trying to call.

For anyone interested in rooting this seems to be the rom to run and the radio to keep: (WILL NOT WORK IF YOU DID THE E911 PATCH!)

Strange, I have the EBI1 radio on my old dream and my daughter who is using it was getting the sms messages and had her outgoing calls redirected.
