Exactly my thoughts Nash. The bigger image sensor for HD is the cause for the larger lens. While the Droid takes nice video, having a phone that takes 720p is much more desirable in my book. On a side note, I also do not really like the back, BUT I will be slapping a cover on this bad boy anyway to protect it. This will be me for 2 years baby! I got the Eris and now it will be heading back to Verizon (still within my 30 days )!

Well, we have all been lusting after the much slicker industrial design of the Bravo. These pictures are certainly a departure from that but as long as the specs don't lag too far behind the N1, it will still be a winner.

Yep, take that Eris back and upgrade to the big boy version. I couldn't be more stoked than I am right now for this phone. Let's hope we don't have to wait till April now. I don't know how much more of this I can handle. haha

On the topic of RAM. The Nexus one has 512 Megs of physical RAM. However it currently is incapable of utilizing all of it. I think most threads concerning this states that it is currently limited to somewhere around 196 Megs of RAM. An OTA update is suppose to recover some of this lost RAM but even then it is theorized to only gain you maybe 100 to 150 more megs. What I'm getting at is that while 512 megs of RAM would be nice, even at 256 Megs we will not be significantly behind the Nexus One out of the gate for some time. Also the amount of RAM for the Incredible is still rumor only anyway. Time will tell.

I must admit, a part of me was hoping to see a 4.3" screen even though deep down I knew it would be too big. Despite only having 5-7mm over an iphone, which was already pushing the limits of what would fit in my pocket comfortably, I think this will be easy to live with and I really cannot wait to get one into my pocket.

The HTC Nexus One comes in with a VERY HIGH SAR (radiation level)... and since the bravo/passion/incredible are pretty much the same phone then one should be concerned that they will also carry a HIGH radiation level!

FYI:

Nexus One SAR (radiation rating) from the owners manual (page 26) is:
0.867 w/kg Head @ 1g
1.39 w/kg Body @ 1g

0.823 w/kg Head @ 10g
1.53 w/kg Body @ 10g

The US absolute limit is 1.6!
So you can see that the Nexus One comes VERY close to this!

The iphone 3Gs is around 0.79 (as a comparison)

I agree with everything you said completely, except that you think the back looks brown. I've heard a few other people say this, but it looks RED to me. I mean, fire engine red. It could be people's monitors or video cards or it could be that different people have different perceptions of color. Cause, that thing is nothing but red red red to me.

not to mention the fact that earlier reports were that the phone was red... all its missing is the utility belt and underroos.

I would think it would also have an impact on decoding and HD capture. It would also be interesting to know what the "peak" (spike) system demand is during the very opening of applications, sliding screens, etc...

That's the reason for apps to SD proposal-hopefully google is working on it.

I think this is where there is still confusion among some people about the role of RAM vs. ROM. Think of it was Concurrency vs. Capacity. The apps to SD card addresses a capacity constraint but not a concurrency constraint. The more apps you run (or widgets, background processes, etc...) the more RAM you eat up, the question is how much RAM is enough. I have a Droid (256MB) and the phone is fast and snappy but i still do notice occassional "laggyness" when switching screens or something like that, however, is that a RAM problem? (I don't know, but i don't think so) I have anywhere between 70-135 MB free at all times but i wonder if there is a "peak" demand for RAM that the system can't satisfy in which case it would benefit from more. In my car audio days it was akin to peak wattage handling and RMS (sustained).

I subscribe to the "there's no replacement for displacement" mentality and RAM is no different (definitely no Dodge pun intended)...

As for the RAM discussion, I can't fathom why they would do less than 1GB in "top tier" phones. RAM is dirt cheap nowadays, and even if Android can't address all of it now, it surely will be able to with subsequent updates. If lessons learned from the PC world transfer to smart phones (and I don't see why they wouldn't), RAM capacity is a far more important figure to me than processor speed... Unless I get one of these newfangled doohickeys and suddenly decide I want to play lots of games on it.

As for HD video recording, I won't say that I couldn't care less, but it's way, WAY down on the list of things I care about. Give me RAM. Give me a clear, bright, screen. Give me decent battery life. Make it a good PHONE. Make it as thin as humanly possible. And for God's sake, somebody make me a damn 32 GB microSD card.

Is the technology there yet to be able to fit 1gb of ram into a cell phone? I'm thinking even if it is possable right now, it can't be cheap!

Excellent news. Well glad at least there are pics/specs, which is much more than most of us had for the Passion/Bravo.

Knowing Verizon, I'd say its usually 2-3 months from initial pic/specs leak till it hits stores. So its beginning of February now...if we are lucky, this comes out end of March, but most like middle of April. So this may come out the same time as N1, so it will be interesting to see which one most of us get.
