yeah well all the rumors i've read about the Razr have it hitting shelves around the holiday season. So the Prime could still do some damage if it came out before then.

Yea I'd say this moto phone probably wont hit until say Black Friday, so if Samsung pulls a stunt hopefully the Prime will be on shelves by the beginning of November!

However, what is interesting is this! If this in in fact the DROID Razr / Spyder, what version of Android will it be running? Gingerbread or some ICS...hmm

i think it's a pretty safe bet it will be GB. but, Jha did say he would like to be the first to release ICS. i just don't think there's any way it can be done - especially if Moto has to make ICS work with all that Blur. if it comes with an unlockable BL, the Nexus will have some stiff competition (at least in my mind).

Yeah but I'll just about bet a paycheck that the bootloader is encrypted, and always will be on Verizon. That just blows the deal for me.

I know, I know: Bionic was rooted and all, but locked bootloaders make the process that much more a pain. At least the Prime will come out unlocked (we believe).

True, but Bionic was rooted even before it released! Locked vs. unlocked is no big deal to me. If I was to get something with Motorblur on it, though, I'd want to be able to completely get rid of it. No Motoblur running in the background, etc.

And I agree with Magdelaine in that the form factor of the RAZR is more my style. But, ICS is a big deal.

It'll be interesting to see how things shake out. Hopefully, Moto will announce this thing next week, with a firm release date. It being Moto, though, I wouldn't be surprised if it gets delayed.

It is our intention to enable the unlockable/relockable bootloader currently found on Motorola XOOM across our portfolio of devices starting in late 2011, where carriers and operators will allow it.”

I know that there has been a lot of grumbling about how Motorola hasn't come through with unlockable bootloaders...but it's been late 2011...until now. I think that it just might happen with these new phones just like it is with the Xoom.

It being Moto, though, I wouldn't be surprised if it gets delayed.

This is not going to be like the Bionic. On HoFo there was someone who had a very finished looking device from a tester friend. He couldn't look at it very long, but he was very impressed with what he saw. It was definitely a SAMOLED screen. I believe they have a finished, tested device on hand. If so, they have every reason to release it now don't you think?

I think you're right, Magdelaine. I think the Bionic was a mammoth blunder that probably won't be repeated again. It always felt to me that they rushed that thing once the first model was scrapped. The RAZR has probably been done the right way.

It will be interesting to see both devices side by side. I'm more or less committed to the Prime, especially if it gets updates directly from Google. But this Moto phone does look sweet indeed!

That's the key right there. In actuality, I think Moto doesn't care one way or the other whether their portfolio is unlocked or not. If someone screws up and bricks their phone, it doesn't mean a whit to Motorola. They're getting paid for their phones directly from Verizon, not the customer.

Verizon will never allow it. A pure, Android vanilla experience on the Prime is a huge shock. I hope that it's true.

Prime is coming with an unlocked bootloader. OG was released with an unlocked bootloader. And more importantly, the Xoom was released with an unlockable bootloader. I think it's in the realm of possibility...if VZW is paying attention, and I believe they are. Right Vz_Wired? lol.

There may be an angle that's being missed here, maybe its just a Theory of mine, or pure speculation...we shall see next week!

But after after putting some thought into this, and looking at current events...Something bigger could be going on here.

Let us all not forget Google pretty much owns Motorola now, all they have left to clear up is some legal angles and what not, but they did in fact go head first with getting moto. Now would it surprise anyone if Google just told Samsung take a step back right now? The Fighting between Apple and Samsung has been plastered everywhere, its pretty much mainstream at this point. Maybe with Steves Death, the whole legal battle with all the ugly fighting going on between the two, google just decided to push Motorola ahead right now?

I mean it has to be expected that Motorola is going to get first crack on alot of stuff that deals with Android. Probably the next Nexus as well. But right now this minute it just surprises me that Samsung would just cancel a very very BIG announcement, but then a few days later a company owned by Google breaks ground with the date of a pretty big event and announcement of they're own! Hmmm, like someone said Moto's man in charge did say he wanted to get ICS on a Moto device first? Well he may have just pulled a robbery and made good on that statement!

your post is kind of contradicting yourself. You say VZW won't allow unlocked bootloaders yet there have been, are now and probably about to be with the prime , devices on their network with unlockable-relockable bootloaders. Two of which are Moto devices.

as for the people favoring the form factor of the Razr more than the Prime that is understandable but for me the ability for the Prime to get updates before anyone else because its a Google device far out weighs a lot of things on other phones. I know Google just bought Moto and we (myself included) would like to think that will get updates to Moto phones faster but i don't think that is going to happen.

i also say that it would be too late for Google to pump the brakes on the Nexus device. Also not enough time since the purchase of Moto for Moto to get that far ahead. I say it is next year before we even see any benefits from Google purchasing Moto.

Nobody said anyone was canceling the Prime....that would in no way, shape, or form happen! However it is very interesting what's going on right now with how this is playing out right this minute. It would really help Samsung to just come out tomorrow and give us a new date for they're BIG announcement! I really hope its sooner then later...
