Cyanogenmod Future

Hope this is the right place to post this.

With Cyanogen getting hired by Samsung, what does the future look like for our mods? Is ICS something that we should look for anytime soon?

CM7x was my ace. I knew that no matter what my carrier did or did not update, that as long as CyanogenMod was in full effect, I was good to go. I must admit, I'm a little worried that now that he's "establishment" that they didn't hire him for his looks, lol. CyanogenMod has made rooting a joy (along with ROM Mgr of course) and I'd hate to lose him because he empowered "the people."

It was a smart move on Samsung's part and I guess they made him an offer that he couldn't refuse. But it was pre-emptive. They bought their nemesis. Whatever he did for us could in an alternate universe, be construed now as "conflict of interest"...if Samsung wanted to be a real butt about it. To say the least, I'm concerned

Yes, Samsung did hire Steve Kondik, the creator of CyanogenMod, but it was said by Steve himself that CyanogenMod will remain a side project for him and not be involved in his job with Samsung. I guess he worked it out with Samsung that he would be allowed to continue the CM project on his own before he took the job.

Ty cds0699. I cannot imagine Samsung allowing this unbridled work on something that gives so much independence to end-users, indefinitely. The inference being that they hired Steve for what he is famous for...CyanogenMod. smh, I dunno.

It has a fox/hen-house feel to it, lol. Remember, not too long ago, weren't they installing bootloaders that would block our ability to root phones? I remember HTC began putting something in the phones that would "un-root" a phone and take it back to factory specs - but later announced that newer phones would not have this muck-up.

So, the big guy hires the Root King for what purpose??? - To have him create awesome environments for them or, to keep him so busy as to get him out of circulation? We've been on 7.1 RC1 for awhile now. Looking for info here...

Samsung has never been known for locking bootloaders. (Definitely the most root friendly manufacturer.) That was HTC, and Motorola. Plus CM7.1 stable was just released for quite a few devices yesterday.

Seems like Cyanogen is putting out awesome work as usual. I flashed a modified version of 7.1 stable yesterday, and it's by far the most stable rom I have ever used. (And nothing is broken, YAY!)

Sorry, I had the original BeholdII from it's release when it was Tmo's top of the line Android. The B2 was a nightmare of internal garbage that prohibited it from being upgraded for awhile. I swore off of Samsungs after that fiasco. You joined in January of this year, there were hellish days of Behold 2 anguish on this forum that preceded your membership.

However, I'm jazzed that a new stable CM7 mod was posted yesterday - yay!!! tyvm!


Update: I installed the update. I am running ADW so, I only have seen the new CM7 opening so far which seems to be touch and swipe rather than a straight swipe to get to home screen. Phone is more touch sensitive and responsive (which is *always* nice!) but beyond that, I still have to play with it to see what's new, if anything. Everything seems to be working. I did have some trouble on install. It hung on the white HTC screen a few times which it has *never* done before. I did a battery pull and went back to square one. 3rd time was a charm! It should be noted that normally, I do a data/cache wipe. I didn't this time.

I did see all the problems back then, I have roamed around these forums since 2009 when the original Mytouch 3G was released. (My first Android device.) But for some odd reason it took me forever to actually register.

I used to hate Samsung, but my opinions have greatly changed. Still have a friend that uses the Behold 2. (which he hates with a passion.) Samsung has greatly improved in all areas over the past year. These days I would have to say they are my favorite manufacturer. When HTC used to be my favorite.
