Lack of microSD Slot - Killer?

Just wondering if the rumors are true (IF) and the Nexus Prime / Nexus Galaxy does not have a microSD card slot, will that turn anyone away from this phone?

I personally love having the microSD card slot on all my phones and makes for quick transferring of information and in case the phone dies for whatever reason I still have all my data.

Thoughts?

It would not keep me from getting the phone because I know there are ways to adapt. But I have had to reset my DInc 3 times in 2 years and never lost any of my pictures, downloads or music because they are all on my SD card - that is a nice feature. If necessary, I could periodically back everything up on my laptop though.

Extra space doesn't bother me...32G is enough - how much do you really need to keep on your phone/portable computer anyway?

How much? For me, a lot. I have an extensive music library and never know what I'll be in the mood to listen to so I have many GB of tunes. Then you have picture and video you take. Clearly few people will use their phones for vacation videos but it would be nice to have the space. Then if you want to have a few videos to fill up boring lunch hours, it adds up to a lot.

The lack of a SD card isn't a showstopper for me, but it's another nail in this phone's coffin.

I will be annoyed! Its so easy to just swap memory with an SD card, it's not the size of memory for me, its the ease of just swapping music and pic albums when I like!
This. It's not the quantity of memory, it is the convenience. This is something that set Android apart from iPhone and would be a dealbreaker, for me.

No SDcard on the Nexus, and I'll be getting the Vigor.

for me this is not an issue as long as its 32 on board.

for the following topics

losing data if something happens to the phone: ...cloud storage/backup its the way of the future and is coming so learn about it. Also doing regular backups on your pc as well.

transferring files: how is this a factor? Even on a phone with an SD you plugged it into your pc to transfer files. That wouldn't change.

I guess I will post this here also since this is a thread about the sd card/sd card slot.

There's a chance the phone may have an sd card slot, except you will have to purchase an sd card or use one you already have.......but don't get too excited about this, as it still may come with no sd card slot.

From jcase on the #gnexus channel:
<@jcase> apparently i maybe wrong about the no sdcard slot, i could of interpreted "no sdcard" as not having a slot, instead of not coming with one.

It's dumb not to include SD but 32 is plenty. The only reason people gripe about this is because with more HD space the human body simply figures I can put more useless stuff on my phone that i'll never use.

One has to ask themselves how often do they go back and look at their 5000 pictures or hope that they can show it to someone.

When you put 15 albums on a storage device let alone 1000...you'll find it becomes equally impossible to ever know what to listen to on a constant basis.

If people could get over the bigger is better and use quality over quantity. 32gb would be enough for any civilized person :)

The more I think about it, the more I wouldn't understand why Samsung wouldn't include a slot in this phone. The Lack of it being on board for the Nexus S deff hurt it...Its just something that should be included. Next were gonna hear they're moving away from replaceable batteries on all they're phones to go along with no SD cards...hmmm, they're is only one BIG Fruit that goes that route these days.

With 32GB on-board, the lack of an sd card slot is pretty much a non-factor.

I've got right around 10GB of music, and I rarely store all of it on the device (usually just playlists I've made). I mainly watch YT vids on my phone, since I have no intention of watching a full length movie on a phone screen (that's what my Xoom is for, and it has an sd slot).

in what ways did it hurt the Nexus S? Maybe we should start a thread in the Nexus S thread just asking the users what they thought about it going in and what their opinion is on it now after using it.

I agree to that...let's do it, I'd be interested to hear what they have to say!

Honestly, I cross paths with so many smart phone users on a daily basis. I've hardly ever run into a Nexus S owner, maybe one or two since its release. However I know a good bunch of Nexus 1 owners... Actually a member of my health club was super excited about Samsung making the S and was all set to buy it, he was so jealous of my Fascinate screen...Anyway he wound up passing because of the lack of the SD card slot and the lack of 720p recording on board. Ended up keeping his HTC Nexus 1...

It will be a trade off to some of us....like the RAZR having a not so easy to remove or non removable battery.

The sd card has been the cause of issues recently with Android phones tho. When the Droid X launched, someone had a problem that removing the sd card and/or replacing it fixed. I dont think I could give up the convenience. I have pics on sd cards lying around that I can just swap in n out instead of dumping them all on my phone.

If something as small as a notification light (I dont think its small, its a deal breaker to me, for me) has ppl thinking twice if it doesnt have one, I can see this making ppl think twice too.

so when the galaxy nexus is rooted, we get superuser...and we start seeing custom ROMs and kernels...

with no SD card, how are we going to use Titanium Backup???

every time we flash our phone with a new kernel or ROM, we're gonna have to wipe data over and over again (including apps)???

someone please tell me there will be a way around this...

Well fellow Primers...We may be in for a trend here! I just watched the Phandroid Preview of the Atrix 2...and guess what? No SD card slot onboard with only 16gig of Internal memory on that bad boy...Hmmm

Veeery interesting...lol. I dont like this trend.

Very good question. I think we may have to spend some time in the Nexus S forums to find out.
