I am using lp free. running rooted stock froyo. after about two minutes the app draw apps and shortcuts reappear. I have almost all the space on the phone filled. I have any apps that dont need to be on phone running from sd. I have over 50 add on apps installed. the apps added to the mini shortcuts can be started without waiting for the shortcuts or app draw to reappear. same with recently used apps when i task switch.

I would suggest using the script V-6 SUPERCHARGER by ZEPPELINROX(@ XDA DEVELOPERS).
See the thread posted by SCUR on the subject here in the ASCEND FORUM & follow the steps verbatim & watch the LP CRASHING disappear.
The steps given are for CM7,but,should be the same for stock-rooted.
Just back-up your current ROM just in case something should go wrong.

seems to be going back to launcher without crashing now for no particular reason.

Another annoying thing is most apps are on the sd. occasionally I get out phone storage low. And i have to seach for apps in setting and clear their data to get rid of it. What I don't understand is if those apps are on sd why does their data still take up my phone storage? sd card isn't even half full.

Each app has several different files & not all of them get moved to the SD CARD.
Download the app LINK2SD & check out my tutorial on the subject.
Or,as GMash suggested, install CM7 & your internal memory problem will disappear due to DT's A2SD being incorporated into the CM7 ROM.

I have CM7, and I always have to wait about 3-4 seconds before apps can reappear, after exiting an app :/
What launcher do you use? I have Go launcher and haven't had that problem since I was on stock 2.1. Did you check the option to "lock home in memory" in CM7?

Settings> CyanogenMod settings> performance settings

Do i have to uninstall all my apps to use link2sd? Most of my apps are on the card already.

You would need to back up the contents of your SD card to a computer, because you have to partition the card to use link2sd, which will erase everything on it.

seems like a lot of work that's why i've avoided it for this long. so far i can still manually clear space when it fills up. Wish there was easier solution. might eventually do it if i get around to it.

Will i be able to uninstall apps that are on sd card if the card crashed?

Also can i reformat the card by attaching the phone to my pc? This is very complicated. It is not easy to remove the sd card from the ascend.
I hate doing it. if i have to remove the sd card to reformat it is there a market app that can reformat it without removing it?

If i could get away with using a gig probably will so as not to have to worry about space for a while. and no one answered if my sd ever went bad would all the apps easilly remove from within my settings applications? if i made a 28gig fat32 and 1 gb fat32 with minitool. does link2sd have ability to reformat the 1 gb fat32 partition as ext3?

Not sure what you mean by the first part. If you can copy the contents of your SD card to your computer, you can use ROM Manager to partition the card, which will also erase/format it. (use 512mb/32 swap) transfer your stuff from computer back to SD card, then use link2sd to move the apps. But if you're doing all of that, why not just flash CM7?

CM7 has issues and i don't have time to troubleshoot them.
The xga link seems to say to back up anyway but the minitool might partition sdcard
from pc without even reformatting. I have 29 gigs recognized. would I get any benefit out of using a full gig for ext? does link2sd format partitions? minitool supposedly can format them as fat32. i could download rom manager to format if necessary. xga usually shows both scenarios rooted stock and cm7. most people in this forum keep pushing cm7. I haven't taken the cm7 plunge because till this point the rooted stock froyo works fine for me. I have to create a swap partition also? 32 meg? don't remember seeing anything about it on xga tut.

LINK2SD does not format or partition your SD CARD.

ok thanks. What I am understanding is minitool in windows might be able to create a fat32 partition without reformatting at all. then I could leave the current fat32 partition intact.Shrink it to 28 gig. Then create a separate 1 gig fat32 partition and since all androids understand fat32 I could use that partition after installing link2sd.
Least pain and reconfiguration. of course back up all data before i do this.
Sorry to say but if it's really that simple. In my opinion it's easier and less risky than going to cm7.Although I might want to try cm7 eventually maybe on a tablet. I just want to do this the easiest way so I don't have to troubleshoot a lot of things. I'm also guessing that after I install link2sd that I have to then link the apps to the new partition. How do I handle all the apps that are already on the sdcard?

Thanks for that. very interesting so minitool can make linux ext partitions even though it's a windows utility. and in this case I can just shrink the one big one which i assume is already primary. And create an ext partition maybe a gig and make that primary too. install link2sd bada bing bada boom hopefully that'll work.
