Perhaps a good time to give up the evil weed?

Smiley.

You should be happy that you do not smoke truly great cigars. I just spent 40.00 for a 5-pack and those were cheap.

It is best if you stop playing with smoking. Take off the training wheels and learn what a great smoke is. Add a nice Cragganmore 12-YO and you're Jake.

Damn that s crack prices here in Illinois!

I used to when I was in college but I gave up on that when I quit college and worked full time. I had the money so I just bought malboro. BUt I quit smoking a about a week and a half ago so I should get out of this thread before I start getting antsy...

Too late.

I'm with you, Slug. Although I stopped smoking decades ago, when I did smoke my favorite was to snag a pouch of Borkum Riff pipe tobacco and plenty of premium rolling papers. I found that I smoked a lot less than just buying a pack of English Ovals or Rothman.

Then one day I realized I was poisoning myself no matter what I smoked. That was the end of that. ;)

I won't smoke, I've lost 3 uncles, one grandmother, one aunt and one cousin to cancer. One of the uncles also developed adult-onset Leukemia from the smoking.

I understand it if people are already addicted and have trouble quitting. But I don't understand younger people who know it could kill them and start smoking anyway. I guess it's denial.

What do e-cigarettes do? I know they deliver nicotine somehow, but is it ignited? Or do you just suck on a plastic thing or whatever?

Basically, an e-cig or vaporizer heats up a liquid (known as e-juice or juice) that is basically vegetable glycerin or polyglycine (sometimes both) plus artificial flavoring (usually baking type flavoring) and nicotine. The liquid is vaporized and inhaled just like a cigarette would be. The big difference is that you don't have the 500 something other potentially toxic chemicals that are found in analog cigarettes. Since nicotine really isn't that harmful (no more than caffeine) and not a cancer causing agent you are simply supplying nicotine to your body in a different way and avoiding a lot of the negatives of smoking. E-juice is also available in a bunch of different flavors and nicotine strengths. I typically "vape" butterscotch , RY4 (has a sort of maple flavor) or 555 (has a sort of nutty flavor). The vapor that is exhaled is water vapor and is typically odorless. So you don't smell like smoke and you can "smoke" just about anywhere. I've used mine on a plane and in plenty of restaurants.

I must say I am kind of intrigued now about these e-cigs.

I have been a dipper/smoker on and off over the last 10 years, and always said I would have to stop drinking in order to remain off the tobacky. Now that I have stopped drinking it seems like a good time to quit.

The e-cig seems like a good way to start to wean off.

I use to roll my own and thinking about doing it again.
Were I live the stores started selling huge bags of tobacco and all the paraphernalia. Then the bongs started showing up as tobacco pipes. The Feds just sweep around and busted a bunch of stores because pot pipes are illegal.

So we may not be able to get anything soon.

The E Smoke is sounding better every time someone mentions it

I know right! Now I have another forum to lurk on.

The one thing I'm curious about is how they affect your lungs. Do they have the same affect as regular cigs? I just now started reading on the ecig forum. I just started running again and I'm not sure the whole smoking thing would be good on the lungs. One benefit of dipping I guess.

I think I have gotten way off base from the OP. Maybe a seperate thread for ecigs would be a good idea.

i dipped for a years in high school... copenhagen... that was the bomb... up until i was around 18 when the dentist told me that dipping, and it's abrasiveness, has worn the gums away from my front teeth allowing the roots to show... they did a skin graft, cut a rectangular piece of skin from the roof of my mouth and sewed it over my exposed roots... let's say that i didn't dip any more after that... but of course i was addicted to the nicotine in the snuff and found cigarettes took my jones away... that was, let's see, 23 years ago...

Of course you are inhaling something into your body so it will be different from not doing it at all, but you aren't inhaling all the stuff found in a cigarette either.

Wow! Like I said I have been dipping on and off for around 10 years. At times I was a can a day and now I may take 2-3 dips a day. While I'm sure my gums are not in the best shape they are no where near that point. Affects everyone different I guess. You do know it can just sit there you don't have to mash it into your gums? :p I kid I kid.

Yeah I figured as much. I have not had a chance to do much digging into the forums but in a quick look up on the effects on the lungs I got the feeling that a lot is still unknown when it comes to medical issues.

True it is still unknown to a certain extent, but I will say that I bike a minimum of 12 miles a day in the rocky mountains.

I'm jealous! When I was stationed in San Diego I was really into mountain biking and did some road riding as well.

I would assume it is much easier on the e-cig then with a analog. I'm thinking of just weaning off dip rather then spending money on the system. Might be harder to do since I would imagine dip has more nicotine then e-cigs.

The nicotine level is selectable with e-cigs.
