preparing for international use

You can get an unlock code from AT&T and put a sim card from a cell company where your going.
Unless you bought the phone at full retail you would have to wait at least 6 months to get it from AT&T due to an exclusivity agreement with Samsung.

Worse case (if you don't want to root it and get it for free) there are many sellers who will do it for you for anywhere from $15-$30 on an unrooted device.

Good question. Don't know. I plan to keep it rooted. All settings are the same with the stock rom, only difference is root access. Installed Titanium and am playing with the freeze settings.

I don't like the fact that this thing has more settings than the iphone, yet does stupid things like constantly scans for wifi networks when connected to wifi at home. some say it doesn't effect battery, but I say if something is spinning on the screen, power is being used and I should be able to stop it without turning off wifi. Doesn't happen with the iphone as I set it to my home router, connect and tell it to stop scanning. Why doesn't android have something like that?

BTW. Before I rooted and unlocked I had a bunch of settings and apps installed. Yesterday I decided to factory reset and do the root again on a virgin untouched system. No problems rooting or unlocking again.
