This number sucks makes me lose some service

That's highly possible. Having the latest PRL on your phone isn't always beneficial - especially if you're in an area with fringe Sprint coverage and you're constantly roaming.

As the link edlex provided states, the PRL is the "Preferred Roaming List" - which means that it tells your phone which non-Sprint cell towers owned by other carriers Sprint has entered agreements to allow its subscribers to "roam" on. Although additional towers are ADDED to these lists, towers are also REMOVED from them, after roaming agreements expire/terminate.

A while ago, someone provided a link to a website that listed what each PRL did (add or subtract towers). If someone has it, please post it up.

In any event, if you're already happy with your existing coverage and it includes roaming, I wouldn't be so quick to UPDATE your PRL. Although there is a chance it may IMPROVE your coverage, there's also a chance that it may make it WORSE.
