Because car torque and horsepower are done at the crank. 300-320whp would equal a bit under, even or a bit over 350hp.

Yeah, that was my point about rwhp. Cars are advertised with more horsepower than actually make it to the drive wheels to push the car forward, but it's not dishonest.

Correspondingly, ICS (the next Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich version that's debuting on the Nexus) reportedly consumes some of the screen pixels for software buttons. I'd prefer the buttons to be hideable as well, but it's not dishonest to advertise the phone's screen as 4.65" when that's what it is.

Yeah, but my Corvette puts out closer to 650hp. ;) Can't add pixels to a screen like I can bolt a supercharger to mine.

Wife's vette is still pretty much stock. That is unless you consider she painted it pink.

Awesome on both counts! Hope you get more great driving weather before snows hit Jersey.

He's clueless.

Why would everyone be excited about a phone with "first" hardware specs-wise, shipping "first" with the biggest release of android since the OG Droid, and doing all this on VZW for the "first" time since the OG was released?? Hmmmm....?? Had to think about that a bit, but I think you are correct on the clueless part.

By the by, Android Forums has a "friend" feature. It really doesn't do much, but it's there. I have a lot of friends. :p If anyone here wants to "friend" me, you're more than welcome. I'll accept you all, as I call you all my friends and brethren in this trench warfare. :D

Well, I have never gone out of my way to friend ppl but sent you a request :D. It would be nice if there was a ticker with what your fiends are doing within CP.

Why the Galaxy Nexus Won't Matter | TechnoBuffalo

I agree with most of this article. But to illude to the fact that hardware doesn't matter is just stupid. Hardware matters but software is the x factor (I remember a bright guy on this forum saying that about 30 pages back ;)).

Um, a pink Corvette? Please tell me she didn't bedazzle it too  :p
No, but if they came out with a pink phone, she'd probably buy it. Just like she bought a pink RAZR, back in the day. That's what they need to sell smartphones now. A pink Galaxy Nexus. On second thought, what is wrong with me suggesting that.

I told her I won't drive it. If anyone cares.

I love the high level of customization that Android offers. I think iOS is a little bit smoother though. I'm really hoping that ICS will bring that highly polished feel to Android. Some people don't want to customize their phone and they like the Apple ecosystem. I can't fault them either.

This phone sounds awesome. ICS looks good. I will be watching on Tuesday night and hoping we get it on Verizon soon.

Good times.

I don't get all the hate over a phone or a corporation. Support Apple or support Google. Whatever floats your boat. In the end it's just technology. If you prefer an iPhone that's fine. It's your money. I had a 3G and a 3GS and then I got bored. Could I ever go back to an iPhone? Maybe.

This is just like the Ford vs. Chevy debates. There is no BEST option, only the one that works best for you personally. The bottom line is that most of the smartphones out today are light years ahead of what we had 3-4 years ago. Competition is good for the consumer. Enjoy your phones.

How dare you bring logic and rational thought into this. That is way over the line and you should consider yourself lucky that I am far too busy trolling an iPhone forum right now to take the time to ban you for this.

Obviously, I'm kidding. Very nice post and I agree with you for the most part. The only thing that leaves a bad taste in my mouth with regard to Apple is the constant legal action. With that, I can kind of understand a little Apple hate for consumers that wanted Samsung products in certain countries. Beyond that, getting upset about them vs us vs them vs those other guys is a big waste of time and energy.

Lol. Nice.

I've always wanted a Corvette but all my friends tell me I have to wait until I'm over 50. ;)

I had a 2011 BMW 135i with the M sport package for 4 months and then a kid hit me and totaled it. Now I'm driving a 2011 Infinit G37x coupe. I miss the turbo.

Right now, I'm not going to worry about the screen and the icons. Haven't had much issue with them on my Xoom. The Nook Color is only running gingerbread, so it's a little more cumbersome with onscreen buttons using button saviour (or something like it).

I drive all year, except in bad weather. My other daily driver is a heads/cam TransAm that wakes the dead. And I always have the 4WD if it snows bad. I'm covered.

Pic of the installed supercharger. I promise now I'll get back on topic.

It's a bit obvious...even current Android hardware already creams the iPhone in specs. It's the software that needs tweaking.

If ICS is done right, it should help a lot. I just wish the bloatware was kept to a minimum.

I think the end of the atricle says it best though. ICS will revolutionize the mobile platform and we already know the Galaxy Nexus is going to deliver that experience. Like Sarah Conner bringing John into the world in the Terminator.

I think a lot of people have issues with the apparent "feel" of Android, especially the scrolling, as it isn't as fluid. I'm hoping ICS hardware GUI acceleration really helps that.

Hahahahaha. That was awesome. Troll on!

I do agree that the legal battles are silly. I want to read about technological advancements, not lawsuits. Microsoft, Google, HTC, Motorola, Samsung and Apple should just settle up and knock it off.

Do I think Steve Jobs was a visionary? Yeah. Do I also think he was an egotistical, back stabbing A-hole. You bet.

I love OSX and my MacBook Pro but I don't really care for the iOS devices. I really frustrate my Apple friends. :D

Exactly. It will make the choice more difficult for people when they go to purchase a new phone. That's a great problem to have.

One thing he mentioned is that ICS could rejuvenate older Android phones and tablets. I'm guessing this only includes devices with reasonable RAM (minimum 512MB?), but it really could make a difference in the user experience if it includes acceleration of the user interface using GPUs that existed in previous phones but wasn't formerly used by the UI.

Also, the native browser is much faster in ICS, so people who haven't already downloaded a fast alternative browser will get a big boost when they go on teh interweb.

Agreed. I can't stand the laggy scrolling. Honestly, I probably would've given in to my wife and friends and become an Apple muncher if iPhone 5 had come out with a 4" screen and LTE.

Here's hoping ICS blows us all away.

I actually bought my wife a Dinc 2 tonight on Amazon's penny sale for VZW because I am planning to install ICS. She isn't ready for this phone, but I have convinced her to let me set it all up for her. She's upgrading from a flip phone. I can't wait till Wednesday.

I've always described how I feel about Apple and Android this way: Apple is great if you're not all that familiar with smartphones or computers in general, but want something that looks nice and is intuitive enough that you don't need to take the time to figure out how all the software works. It's like a smartphone with training wheels. Android, on the other hand, allows a LOT of customization and tinkering but makes some real sacrifices on ease of use, leading for a steeper learning curve for newbies. If you're familiar with computers or smartphones at all this probably won't be an issue, but for some it can be overly intimidating and confusing.

Put another way: If your 85 year old nan asked you to help her pick out a new smartphone to move away from the nokia brick she knows and loves, would you instinctively reach for a Droid or an iPhone? Personally, I'd be getting her the iPhone, knowing that she'll be able to pick it up quickly and use it fairly efficiently with little to no effort. Buy her a Droid though, and I'm probably going to have to spend some time showing her the ropes, teaching her the basics and then standing by as tech support when new issues pop up.

It doesn't make one better than the other, it just means they're good at different things.

As I mentioned earlier, my 80 year old mom came to visit last summer. I handed her my Evo, showed her how to swipe screens and where the app drawer was. After three minutes, while navigating Radar Now, she asked why my sister got that hard to use piece of crap (her words) iPhone 4.

This whole "intuitive, better for geriatric crowd" meme has undying popularity, but I think it does injustice to a LARGE class of clueful oldsters.

Lazy thinking transcends generations, the iPhone isn't more intuitive, in my opinion, that's a popular excuse.

Try it yourself on an 80+ year old and see for yourself.

I wish I could personally destroy this false meme.
