Great Little War Game

That's not correct. It's not working on some SGS2s right now. I tried to install and run it just a couple of days ago on my vanilla 2.3.4 UK unbranded unrooted SGS2 and got the POWERVR problem. It is not an old problem, it is a current problem. Happy to upload and specs/logs if it helps before I root and load up chainfire.
Just got this in from our tech who actually did the package files:

"From my understanding this is an issue with the market app. As you know we are using 4 apks. PowerVR, ATC, Tegra/DXT and ETC. The last one was created for Samsung Galaxy S 2. That model has quite a few variations with the most important the fact that some models come with ARM Mali chipset and others with a Tegra one.

ARM apparently elected to not license any of the other texture formats and the only compressed one it's the default (ETC). That package will run all devices since support of ETC it's a requirement of OpenGL|ES 2, but it is also the fattest of the four and requires a bit more memory. Were things seems to go completely bananas is that some are getting the PVR one, which none of the variations of SGS2 actually support"

So there is a problem here and we're looking into it on Monday. This does explain why some can run it and some can't. So once again we'll be scratting around trying to unbreak the Market app's problems... :(

Sorry for the incovenience guys, we're doing all we can...

Thanks for the update Paul. In the meantime SGSII owners CAN run the game if they use Chainfire 3D (I am, interestingly load times are much reduced that way - I guess that relates to the issue you mention in terms of requiring more memory).

Anyone needing a tutorial on getting CF3D running can get one here. Also instructions on how to Root the SGSII there if people need that too.

Indeed although you should also note that this route blows your warranty unless you invest in a USB wottist to reset the ROM counter.

Yep, that is all covering in the Rooting guide, and the CF3D guide links to the disclaimers in that initial piece. Anyone who follows the guide will be aware of this unless they decided to ignore the disclaimer.

The point remains though that SGS2 CAN'T run this game without further (admittidly) minor investment if you want to keep your warranty. Your original post made it seem like a non cost option - it isn't if you want to retain your warranty.

Why would I waste time spelling it out? That information is all in the guides I link to.

Hopefully you've spotted that we've rationalised the packages now so these points of confusion should go away. We're using the standard texture compression for all builds so the market app can't get it wrong any more!

In the meantime, we're having a sale over the weekend. 67% off the usual price, now can be had for $0.99

No plans for this version since openFeint binned their promised match servers. However we are doing a sequel for next year some time and that will have full multiplayer when we can figure something out.

I've never understood why people like openfeint. I'd rather be able to play WITH me friends than try to beat their score or whatever. Looks like I'll be catching up with you guys next year sometime. Great game though. Keeps up the awesome work.:)

Excellent, glad you're enjoying it. :)

There's not a thread for tips and stuff but feel free to start one - I'll certainly contribute to it.

In other news, we've finally gotten hold of a phone that exhibits this bug whereby the green circles disappear and the men go silly colours. Shock, horror, surely not. Yep, yet another GL ES driver bug. Now worked around and the game will be updated tomorrow.

(For the geeks out there, the driver bug is that glGenTextures fails (on some devices) to make mipmaps for luminance textures, but claims it worked. So all the alpha comes out at zero when sampled).

Update 1.0.5 just went live. This fixes the lack of green markers etc. as mentioned above. Sorry about this guys.

As a total coincidence, google today just sorted a problem for our app being incorrectly filtered too, so if anyone's reading this wondering what game we're on about, then you might be able to see it in the market now!

I have just bought the game, couldn't wait to play it but it turns out I cant download it onto my HTC desire. When I try to download it it comes up with: "Error while downloading. There is insufficient space".
I know for a fact that I have at least 40mb of space on both my internal phone space and SD card. Please explain or does anyone have any advice?
