So I must say ive been a HUGE Android fan.
After owning a Droid X for 1 year I upgraded to the Bionic.
After much thought, Ive decided to sell the Bionic (its currently up for sale) and im downgrading to a cheap Blackberry 9650.

After MUCH thought, Id rather have some cash than a HUGE brick in my pocket. lol
Yea, im gonna miss the speed of the dual core processor, BUT, im gonna love having a phone I can put in my pocket and have an amazing keyboard.

NEVER thought id leave android, espically the Bionic, but after have data issues and recieving multiple of the same text messages, I just have to move on.
Im sure Ill come back to Android soon, but i REALLY miss a keyboard and something that fits in my pocket.
BUT, Im gonna HATE the slow browser!!! UGH!!! lolz

Just sharing my story...
So if anyone wants a cheap bionic, hit me up :)

Good Luck, I did the same thing left the Droid and went to the Iphone 4 instead.
But just after 5 months came back to the Droid side.
But I can see your point on having extra cash and a phone that fits in your pocket.

Well say see you but not good buy since I know you will come back to the Droid side.

Just warning you from personal experience...

I, myself, wanted to try something new as well but also had a purpose of going Blackberry due to the reputation of it being great for business and top email app. I had the brand spanking new (at the time) BB9930 and with full honesty... was the WORST phone purchase that I have ever made (and I switch phones about 3 times per year). I absolutely despised the BB OS and it's App World. There are SO few apps for BB and while people can argue that the vast majority of apps on Android Market and App Store are crap... the same exact thing can be said for App World.

If you're a major app user or there are certain apps that you really can't manage without well, then refrain from moving to BB. The quality of apps for Android and iOS is FAR higher than the quality of apps (if it even exists in the first place) for BB.

I've had Android phones and the iPhone 4 for a long period of time and used plenty of apps on both. When I went to BB, I was having MAJOR buyer's remorse and wanted to get rid of the phone as soon as possible. If it was a great OS in its own right with a decent app store, I probably would've waited until Galaxy Nexus but I bought the Bionic first thing when it was released because I couldn't deal with my BB any longer.

RIM has fallen SO FAR behind the pack... The only thing I can see them having a clear advantage of is the speed at which email arrives. The actual viewing of the email is not even close on par with Android's because of the truncated email.

Anyways, best of luck to you and I hope that you have a better experience with trying out something new than I had just about 2 months ago.

My business line is a Bold 9930...so I pretty much have the best of both worlds! However, with the Data issues I've been having, the Black Screen of Death, this POS camera, and the Brick it feels like in your pocket I can deff see your point. I'm done with Motorola...

Patiently waiting for the Prime...

Yea. I bought a 9930 and hated the batt life. Plus my keys were messed up so i returned it and got the Bionic.
The ONLY apps i currently use on my Bionic are tune in radio, fb, usaa mobile banking, handcent sms, pandora....thats it. Not an app guy. No time for angry birdS. Lol. Im am gonna miss netflix though :(

On day 12 of my Bionic (yesterday) I exchanged it for a Droid 3. I never really loved the size of the Bionic. I don't need 4G right now - it's spotty near where I live, and I really don't need the bandwidth for what I do with the phone, so I had it locked to 3G anyway. The fact that I lost 3G (and 1x for that matter) when the 4G network went down on Sunday was perhaps the last straw - I had 3G dropouts out and about where I *know* there is good 3G signal. The D3 is smaller (though thicker), with the same resolution as the Bionic, still bright while outdoors, still dual-core. While I will probably rarely use it, it does have a pretty decent hardware keyboard as well. Add to that the fact that it's a global phone and I may be traveling in the next year and a half - I just think the D3 is better for me.

Threads like this just remind me that every person is different and has different needs. It's really amazing :) I never understood what the big deal was about Blackberry's even before Android took off. I wasn't even interested in them at all until the Storm came out, and then I played with it and I became even LESS interested. To me, it just seems that the OP would be better off trying one of the numberous other flavors of Android phones before switching to BB. But that's purely opinion. The Bionic is a large powerhouse. While I heard the Droid Pro had a few hiccups here and there, I still would recommend that over a BB, and it's a similiar style to the BB so if the small keyboard like that is what you are looking for, it would be the best of both worlds.

Anyways, good luck with the BB, I hope everything works out how you want it :)

Lol the OP said blackberry

Thanks for expressing what was in my mind the instant I saw the thread title. ;)

But:

With all due respect to the OP, of course, going from a Bionic to a Blackberry with that tiny little screen, primitive browser, etc seems to speak something about "retro-reliability vs cutting edge technology."

And that's not a bad thing. My wife purchased a nice new little Ford Fiesta a few weeks ago, and I was put off by all the "information" and gadgetry on the dash panel and elsewhere.. tire inflation pressure, outside temperature (the weather, not the temp of the engine), miles per gallon being used updated instantly with each nuance of gas pedal movement, etc ad infinitum.. streaming across the readout in red against black.

I won't get a Blackberry, but I know that at some point I'm getting a '57 Chevy. :D

Well what ended up happened is I traded my Bionic for a like new BB 9930 and a 9650. So I will get a backup device as well. The 9930 will be my daily device and the 9650 as a backup.

The reasons I did this:
1) Call me crazy, but I like the smaller form factor. And I personally love the 9930 screen...it looks nice.

2) I really miss a keyboard.

3) I would like to get a tablet in the future, and currently, only BB's can be paired with the Blackberry Playbook. (IE: you cant pair a bionic with a samsung galaxy tab) -I THINK!!!

4) PERSONALLY, something about BB is just "sexy". lol
From personal experience, when I walk around the office with a BB and when I walk around the office with a Bionic, ppl regard the BB to "working" and the Bionic to "playing".
IE: Someone walks into my office and im looking at my Bionic they will knock and ask a question, someone walks into my office and im on my BB they come back later. lol :p
(maybe its cause you cant really "play" on a BB). lol

5) When I have an Android device its outdated in 5 weeks, but when I have a BB its the best for at least 6 months. lol

6) Seems like there are A LOT more accessories for the BB then the Bionic.

7) The NETWORK issues ive had with my Bionic was gettting out of hand, I cannot go a day without service. Plus its annoying to have to reboot to regain "data".

8) With my Bionic I am reciving multiple text messages, REALLY annoying as well...

Just little things like the above. I will post more this weekend when i ship out my Bionic.

Stop that! You're making me miss my 8330. :D

lolz :D
But seriously, Im an electronics guy! LOVE new phones! I spend my free time in between classes on here/crackberry/phone dog. lol
And it just depends on what your needs are, thats why we all have options :)
If a BB 9930 had Android OS inside with a little bigger screen/flash support/FFC/4g, I would be in heaven! lol
