New to Androids, really new to smart phones in general. The phone is through Virgin, but I've only been using it on wifi as of now. The lag is the worst when I try to play Netflix. The audio and video is completely off the entire time and the video lags. The audio sounds great and smooth, but the video constantly lags, I've even tried pausing it for a bit, but it doesn't help. Even when I play simple games like angry birds, it keeps lagging on me. It's really driving me crazy, any help would be really great.

have you checked if the wifi speed is slow? Also, are you watching a high quality stream? remember that the Optimus V is not exactly a high end phone with nice specifications, its hardware is pretty weak. Try rebooting.
It's not the network connection speed. I have the LG Thrive (AT&T's version) and I also experience severe lag with Netflix (not exactly lag so much as it's playing in slow motion and had severe audio/video sync issues). In this case, I think the Optimus One family just doesn't have the necessary CPU power. Perhaps people can write to Netflix to request better optimization for underpowered phones.

There is a netflix apk on the forum that works with the phone to an extent. The official does not. The video codec used isn't compatible with our phone. The version on the forum has a green bar at the top of the screen and the color is off kilter. This apk however works fine with BACKside IHO ROM.

Never had a problem with Angry Birds, Rio or Seasons. I also play Plants vs Zombies quite a bit without any problems. Even when I was running the stock rom it wasn't an issue.

The wifi speed is my home wifi, the speed is fine there. I couldn't find any settings to change the quality of the stream, so whatever it comes standard is the quality that it is. Would the Samsung Intercept be a faster phone in these situations? Or is the Optimus V a better phone all around?

I think Optimus is a better phone than the Intercept. Keep in mind, though, that a 600MHZ processor is quite slow. I haven't tried to use Netflix on the phone, but I, too, get occasional lag when playing Angry Birds. It seems that the Optimus can just barely handle the demands of these games. I usually use the task killer inSuper Tool Box to kill most other running apps first. That seems to help.

It seemed to help a little bit, for about 10 seconds, but then it went back to not working again. I like the app though... Is the clear cache and clear history all good to use too?

The reason for the lag is the stock CPU speed is only maxed out at 600MHz. The apk that MacFett mentioned will probably only work on rooted devices with a CPU speed above 750MHz. With CPU speeds in this range or higher(some rooted "V"'s can go as high as 864MHz) most games play pretty smooth.

I was able to watch netflix on an unrooted stock device. It does have the green bar and the color shift problem. But there is no video lag and no audio sync problem.

On BACKside it plays seamlessly, I am not overclocked either.

I must edit my post then. I hate it when I put my foot in my mouth. I could have sworn that it didn't work on stock and that you had to have a Gingerbread ROM to allow it to work. I stand corrected. Sorry!

Sadly, most of the stock apps restart themselves shortly after you kill them. I suppose there's no way around that without rooting, and I haven't tried that (yet). Yes, the clear cache and clear history both work as advertised on Super Tool Box. They won't help with lag issues, though. They jsut free up space in the phone's onboard storage.

That's the way the Android OS is supposed to work. It does this weather you are rooted or not. Check out this post and perhaps it will make some sense as to why it's like that. It's probably one of the best posts on this entire forum. ;)

Just wanted to let you guys know... I downloaded the Netflix update yesterday and wow, what a difference it is on wifi. I haven't tried it on 3g yet, but on wifi I can almost watch it flawlessly. The best part is that the audio doesn't go ahead of the video if the video lags now, if the video hits a little laggy spot then the audio stops with it instead of running ahead of it. Works great now, I'm happy, just wanted to let any of you know that may not use netflix anymore because of the problems.

I know it's been like a week, but I also just wanted to say that Netflix seems to be working great even on 3g now since the update. Every now and then I might need to pause it, but it seems to be working awesome now. So like I said, if anybody deleted the app because they weren't able to play it on this phone, you might want to give it another try now.
