Verizon replacing broken DINC with DINC2

Hi All, thought I would share, didnt see it posted anywhere.

I got the Gingerbread update for my DINC mid September, and let me say, I did not like it one bit. I immediately was missing froyo, broken apps, worse battery, lags, bugs, etc.

Regardless, I noticed I wasnt receiving texts any more. First, I was attributing it to other people's phones, as I could send them just fine, and the one person that was texting me said he had been having issues.

Well, turns out, I wasnt receiving them from anyone. I did a quick online search and saw others had this issue as well.

I called Verizon to see if I needed a replacement. After their mandatory reset, they told me it was a known issue and there was no fix, and would replace my phone. (I was a little annoyed, if this is an unfixable issue, why make me reset).

So, they told me that they are no longer replacing DINC with the same phone, and that instead I would be getting a DINC2. A day later, it arrived, and it was in a brand new box (NOT A REFURB!). They also sent me the extended battery, a new backdoor and a "green" charger. All in all, another $80 (according to the receipt) worth of products. Very cool. I dont know if they give everyone the extra stuff, but when I was on the phone, I was nice, joking, and non-confrontational.

Also very cool is that it didnt affect my upgrade dae at all, and I can get a new, discounted device in 4 months, but now that I have this phone, I am going to hold out for something awesome.

Initial impressions: I loved my DINC, declined a couple upgrades to a DX when I was having issues last summer. But, I LOVE the DINC2. It, as its name implies, INCREDIBLE, and the screen size is my sweetspot. I thought the DINC was the biggest I wanted to go, but I am happy with the DINC2

My old battery was at 70% by 8:30am, and I was charging by 10am (pretty heavy user). With the DINC2, I was still at 40% at 7pm after similar use, and that's with the stock battery... I can only imagine the difference with the extended battery.

It also came with 2.3.3, which is rootable, which was pretty simple. Not as easy as my original DINC, but pretty simple non-the less.

So, 20 minutes after opening the box, i was rocking a brand new, rooted DINC2.

Basically, if you have issues and can get a replacement, you are going to an awesome phone.


What I wont miss:

• Less than stellar battery life
• Issues that caused numerous replacements

What I will miss:

• The trackpad... didnt realize how much i use it until I dont have it anymore
• TV Out- I had just bought a cable to do TV Out, and it isnt compatible with the DINC2, and I cant find an alternative for it at the moment.
• The DINC will always hold a special place in my heart as my first true smartphone. I had the Eris, but on eclair, it was crippled, and I was quickly upgrading to the DINC.
• YOU GUYS! this forum was awesome and helped me do a TON, from rooting to unrooting, to ROMS, to apps, to everything else.

Don't tell but a lot of former DInc users stick around even after putting their phone out to pasture.

I called Verizon to try to replace my phone for the Incredible 2, told them the problems I had with 2.3 update such as apps are missing. The woman told me that they had the Incredible 1 in stock and will just replace my phone. Bummer... I told her not to since there won't be any different all the Incredible 1's have that problem on 2.3.3, she was to ignorant to understand. Oh well.

Very odd... I would try again, because I have seen the DINC > DINC 2 all over the place, seems to be what HTC is telling them to do. I had my friend, who also has a DINC (he wasnt having issues, just wanted to see what happened). They offered to replace with DINC 2.

After 4 phone calls to Verizon, and one to HTC, I to got an Inc. 2 as a replacement. I had to speak with a customer service supervisor before this happened. She told me that due to all the issues the o.t.a. caused, the company was authorizing the upgrade. She did stress that the 2 would be a refurb. and would have no effect on my contract. I would still be eligible for an upgrade at the end of this month.

I really wanted to keep my orig. Incredible, as I love the 8 gigs of memory. Combine that with a 16 gig card, and I have all the space I need. She told me that any refurb. they sent me would have the half-baked version of g.b. on it, so I'd be better off taking the 2. She really seemed to be selling it. She went through all the specs, and pointed out the improvements.

When I finally decided to go for it, she told me again, it would be a refurb. But when it arrived, just like the o.p. it was brand spanking new!

Sadly for me, I had to walk away during set up, (kids!) and it auto installed 2.3.4, so no root for me

While I like the phone, the screen really is the perfect size, I still miss the extra memory of my orig. Incredible.

They finally agreed to change my phone too. The person said it will be refurbished the Inc 2 but I don't know for sure. Will be getting my phone tomorrow. Did your phone come with a 16GB MicroSD?

So far so good.

The only real issue I have is the broken alarm clock. I know some folks have had luck fixing it by doing a factory reset, but it took me hours to get this thing set up the way I want it, no way am I going through it all again! I just downloaded an alarm app from the market. If it really bugs me at a later date, I'll go ahead with the reset. But from what I've heard, this is a known issue, so hopefully we'll get a patch.

The battery life is something to behold! I was off the charger for 6 hours yesterday, and battery was still at 85%! I'm running Juice Defender plus with the beta. I may no longer need to carry that portable charger around-the-clock.

I have also noticed that the 2 is a bit snappier. Faster downloads and what-not.

I like the camera, though I haven't really had much of a chance to put it through it's paces. The shutter is faster, which comes in handy for snapping pics of a wiggley kid. We'll see how it does on our trip to the pumpkin patch.

My overall first impression is good. But I am missing the extra storage and the trackball of the orig. Inc.

One thing to note: make sure you check your SD card before wiping your old phone! I discovered today that all the pics I took on my orig. Inc. after the 2.3.4 "upgrade" had been saved to the internal storage, not the SD card! Good thing I checked or all those pics would have been lost.

I was one of the early receivers of the original Dinc OTA update.
And yes, it trashed the phone.
I posted my excellent experience with Verizons tech support on the never ending Gingerbread update thread, where I wound up with a New, not refurbished Dinc 2 for a replacement.

Had it for about three weeks now, and even though I entered into it with an expectation of being underwelmed, I have to say that I am impressed with the Dinc 2.

Battery life is much improved, and even though the screen is only ever so slightly larger, I have to say that I like it.

I catch myself grabbing my wife's still functioning original Dinc once in a while, and the difference is really jarring.

It just seems like the Dinc 2 is what the original Dinc should have been from the beginning.

Overall sound quality and volume levels seem to be the same.
Sent in the old SD card, as the new phone had one (16GB?) in it when it arrived.

I kept my old SD card because that's what the Verizon rep told me to do.

Sound seems to be a bit better, reception, at least in my area, is a little improved as well.

I got the phone today. It was in the box and came with a 16GB MicroSD. All the stuff were wrapped. That means its new right? Mine didn't come with any case though =(.

EDIT: Did you guys remove your custom ROM/root before sending in your phone?

I would remove the rom to be safe.

So your phone is rooted and working fine, so you want to try and get a free upgrade?

No, my phone just isn't the same since I got the ota update.

You can uninstall the update and go back to stock 2.2. Follow the guide stickied on top of the root subsection.

You were running the leaked version after rooting. That is not getting it OTA.

Because the ota broke the phone, I did not have to sign a new contract. I'll be up for an upgrade in a few months.

I contacted Verizon today about my DINCs problem rebooting during google navigation and they're sending me a replacement 1st Gen DINC. At least that's what the customer service rep said. Maybe he didn't notice that it was a DINC 2...I guess I'll know in a couple of days. Wonder why some of you are getting the DINC 2 and I'm getting the 1st gen...not that I really care. I just want my phone to not reboot during Nav.

What you get is almost completely dependent on current stock levels.

If they have your specific phone in stock that's what you get, if not you get something similar.

My understanding is the refurbish process is set-up almost like a production line. Basically, all returned phones go in a bin. When they get enough of that type. The place works on that type for a week. So Ausiron get a shipment for each phone type once a month lets say. If there's a "run" on that phone, they ship a alternative phone till the next shipment arrives...
