Motorola and Verizon just slapped us!

The bionic's screen is a non issue for me. If I crank it up to high brightness it doesn't look so good but otherwise if I just leave it on auto it looks great. This is coming from someone who returned a laptop computer several years ago because of a crappy screen display. My concerns about the Razr are also along the lines of the non replaceable battery. That also means this phone has a non-upgradeable to extended battery. Let's face it, all 4g phones are battery hogs. So are amoled screens and the Razr has both. As an aside, I think one of the reasons that verizon has been selling the bionic extended battery for only 25 bucks is because both they and moto know that battery life with this phone on 4g is still an issue, despite the fact that one of the reasons we were given for its delay was that they were working to resolve the battery issue. It appears that in the end they resolved the issue with an inexpensive extended battery.
Unless the Razr packs some hi-tech state of the art battery technology (to match its Kevlar case), this phone is going to potentially be a no-go fraught with its own set of potential problems on release.
It will also be interesting to see how they get around the fact that the end user won't be able to do a battery pull when the phone freezes up. There's going to be a whole lot of unhappy campers if doing a reset becomes the "solution" to not being able to do a battery pull!

Ok, I'm never one to dig on this, and make noise about phone releases being so close, and always being behind the curve when it comes to keeping up with Technology!

However, as Android fans, and Bionic owners we just got slapped by Moto and Vzw...

Why even release the Bionic, and then a month...A MONTH LATER, release a phone from the same phone manufacturer that beats out the previous one so bad when we talk about screens, and what not?

Yes the Razr comes with a Super Amoled qHD screen...seriously now? And the usual Dual core stuff, with probably a better camera that doesn't take a year to Auto Focus.

Yea I'm a little pissed! It is what it is! And I wouldn't even post if it was a new phone from HTC, Samsung (Prime) or LG! But coming from Moto, come on! Not cool moto, not cool VZW!

I think Moto's solution to data connectivity issues and whine in the headphone output is...the RAZR.

Some silly assumptions going on in this thread. Say what you want about Motorola, but the Bionic is a good phone. It would be stupid for them not to release it. That being said, if the Razr is ready for primetime, it would be stupid not to release that too. There are plenty of people who held off on getting the Bionic for the Prime or another rumored phone. The Razr is now another choice for them to consider.

Remember, the Bionic came out September 8th. This phone is announced a month later. Good luck getting it in your hands this month. Mid november is the earliest in my opinion.

I think the Razr is going to be a great phone, I have a lot of faith in Motorola. Even phones that where "notorious" such as the DX2 where actually good phones, people just nitpick on room for improvement. Yes they could have given the X2 1GB of ram, but then what would be so impressive about the Bionic? Everyone wants every phone to have top of the line everything and I completely understand that. But you can't get mad that the Razr is coming out when it was understood that because of the delays, newer phones were right around the corner. You either were patient, and now you can get the Razr or the Prime. Or you got impatient and got the Bionic. If you don't like your Bionic that is a seperate issue. I love mine.

And to make this wall of text even larger, I don't see why everyone is acting like the Razr is going to be some gift from god! As has been stated above, it's specs are marginally better than the Bionics, nobody knows if the camera is better you are just speculating. If the screen is of such importance to you then you shouldn't have gotten the Bionic. I for one prefer battery life. Pentile looks fine to me, yes I can see "pixelation" if I look for it. But I don't look for it. And I get better outdoor visibility and better battery life for my sacrifice. And then there is this non-removable battery nonsense. I've ripped on Apple for years for this sinister business practice. I've had to battery pull my Bionic twice since getting it. What the heck happens on the Razr? Hopefully they code a kill switch into the power button like on a PC. All these points have already been mentioned, and some others I didn't mention like the lack of an extended battery. I guess what boggles me the most is how the news of a phone with such a big glaring design flaw, is upsetting to someone who is happy with their Bionic. It sounds to me like you are not satisfied, and are using this as an excuse. If that is the case, then I'm sorry but you messed up. Better luck next year.

lol...If your pointing the Finger at me messing up...No I dont think I did!

lets go this route...A new phone drops what,,,Every few months!

A new Phone from the same company,,,Every few months!

A new Phone with (slighly better specs, Better screen, better Form)
from the same Company, on the same Carrier...Every few months right?

NO my friend! 30 days later is a slap in the face from the same company and carrier! as I stated, it is what it is...Some of us are pissed, some are not! Me like a few other owners and members a little pissed and will gripe a little. Then we'll get over it and probably buy it...lol!

As I stated if this was from HTC, Samsung, anyone....This Thread does not exist!

Yea the screen is different, (wont really say better cuz thats a matter of opinion), yea the cpu is a wee bit faster, yea it seems to have an upgraded front camera..

Only thing that blows me away is the rated talk time. I hope thats true. I will take a non removable battery anyday in Android land with that talk time.

And the bootloader: well looks like Moto is really trying to go after RIM's market. Anyone see the article about the NSA, CIA and other govt agencies and Googles super locked down kernel? Some of mentioned this last year. RIM's market or the folks that want custom ROMs. kernels? Yea....tough choice..lol. Not trying to make light of the ROM community but going after RIM's market might be a wee bit more important. And didnt the 2nd init thing work for the Droid X1? Might work for the RAZR and Bionic.

OK before this gets into a...Your complaining about a new phone coming out, you missed the bus, thats Technology for you back and fourth Food Fight... Let me add this for some to think about...

Since some of us are pissed, and some are not, and feel the need to defend Moto and Vzw, or just simply love they're Bionic (which is cool)...And say thats Technology or this is just the way Business is...Digest this

First and foremost...If VZW knew about the Razr when the Bionic was getting set to launch (which Jeeez they did) then the Bionic should have been $199 out the door! No If,ends, or But's...That should have been the price! Not $300 out the Door, with another Flagship phone in the pipeline that's going to run $300 out the door! Get it straight people...Moto and VZW Cracked us in the Jaw! They knew what they were doing! Would I have gotten mad if the Bionic was scratched, knowing a better Phone from the same company was 30 days away...I think not!

I would really love to go into the Thunderbolt forums and ask the members if they would be pissed if a lighter, better speced Thunderbolt got announced 30 days after they just spent $300 on theirs? Hmmm

Or better yet, would Samsung release the Galaxy S2 here in the states on 3 carriers, and then 30 days later announce that the Galaxy S3 will be available here in the states in a few Weeks....NO Friggin Way! It's bad business...

VZW and Moto took advantage of people that were all amped up about the Bionic, and really did'nt do the right thing here...If you dont see my point, well it is what it is then...Some people just agree to disagree.

Talk time is only half of the battery story IMO. The other part is how 4g data gobbles up battery power.

I say F the Razr. If its bootloader is locked, then it's a P.O.S. IMO. Motoblur is so buggy and sucks so badly, I wouldn't even use the Razr even if someone gave it to me for free.

Once the Bionic's bootloader is cracked, we're gonna have the best LTE phone even when the Razr is out. :D

EDIT: NVM, it looks liek the Bionic bootloader is also locked. Damnit!!!

I just came back to Android from the iPhone...yes the iPhone had a nicer screen but its not like the bionic screen is junk lol...

The sealed battery is a definite deal breaker regardless of how amazing the phone is sealed battery is junk...what happens that first time you need to do a battery pull...

Anyway I'm really digging my bionic last Droid I had was the og so yeah lol!

There always be complainers and grippers, some will say it is too sunny, others it is too cloudy, etc. For me this is the simple story, I had a Blackberry 9650, was so tired of its limitation most important the size of the screen, and the limited number of apps I could get to use the device as a smart phone the way to was intended to be. I came to the droid side, i bought an X2, i loved it, i started playing with it root it, bricked it, panicked, ran to the store bought the Bionic which had just beeen released 2 days prior after having the X2 for two weeks. Came home found out how to unbrick the X2 and sold it all within the same day.

Yes the Bionic has limitations and legitimates gripes by many, for me thank goodness I have not experienced most of those issues and a couple only once. So overall I am still very high on this phone, and I am sure once the Nov updates come it will be even better.

I followed the release of the Nexus last night and I can honestly say I would not be getting that phone and I am sure I could sell the bionic cover the cost of the Nexus and still pocket some change but again I am happy with what I got and see no need to change.

When ICS is released for it it will be golden to me.

So yes you could say Verizon slapped some in the face but I live in the here and now and when I needed a new phone the Bionic was there met and surpassed my needs and I stopped looking. There is never a point to keep on looking, everyday there will always be something new something better but that does not mean that what you bought yesterday is not any good. If you have to keep with the Jones and have unlimited funds, hell yea go for it, otherwise sit back relax and enjoy the ride.

galaxy nexus also looks alot better spec wise than the razor. 720P screen also is AWESOME!!!

I find it hilarious when people say a 720P screen on something that is 4 inches big is going to be any better than most other screens...

720P resolution only looks different to the human eye (from 480(not sure exactly, is it 480p?)) if the screen is about 20-25 inches big. Same as the simple fact that 720p is NOT different than 1080p unless the screen is bigger than 40 inches.

There is only so much that you cant fit on a 4 inch screen.

Either way the 720p screen on the Nexus will look a hell of a lot better then whats on the Bionic.

Being able to notice the difference also depends on how close or far you are from the screen. Phone screens are held a lot closer than a TV normally would be so it may make a difference.

From 2 feet away 720P and 1080P are very different. By your logic, all the 20" 1080 Computer monitors are pointless.

This is actually a very good point. There is actually a chart somewhere on the web that shows how big a screen has to be for the human eye to really notice anything. I think it was 50+in. for 1080P. I can't imagine 4+ in. would be able notice anything. Afterall, it's a damn phone people.
