Can someone explain to me what all the hype of 2.x is for the Eris? I don't have all the technical specs or anything but from what i have read the main addition to Eris users is voice nav for google maps. Nowadays most cars come with nav or most everyone has a portable GPS device. So what is all the fuss about?

It's written more efficiently (faster, less memory used for the base system) and doesn't have the memory leaks that 1.5 has.

Newer and more efficient software/apps can be used with it.

For us, this means more apps in the Market, Google Goggles, Google Navigation via Google Maps, possibly more speed and reliability, less/no use for a Task Manager (for those who use one), and being ready for the Apps of the future (developers will be developing more and more for 2.x+ and not 1.5+).

No idea if this is just a random coincidence, but I just got off a phone call and noticed my eris came up with a pop up saying OTA update- message unsuccessful....no idea if this is 2.x related or possibly related to the fact that verizon service has been working on and off now since 8am (Harrisonburg, Va).

Interesting, but OTA updates usually come at night.

The mystical update fairy comes to your house and sprinkles magic update dust on your phone. The update dust will then work its way into your phone's OS. Over the course of the next few hours the phone will build the update. Then, when it is ready to update you will get a notification. You can't try and stay up to see this happen though. The fairy is very shy and won't come if you are awake. The fairy has wings and this is why they call them over the air (OTA) updates, because she can fly.

Seriously though, they usually do happen really early in the morning. That is probably a network update, but keep us informed.

For some reason the old song, "Don't Bogart that Joint, My Friend" came to mind while reading that.
