Help How to get silent mode?

On my new Samsung Galaxy S2 the only way to turn on silent mode is to:

1) Press power button on upper right edge
2) Swipe to unlock
3) Press Menu
4) Select Settings
5) Select Sound
6) Select Silent mode

Whew!

On my ancient MyTouch 3G I just hit the power button and the initial screen had an option to swipe to the left to enter silent mode. I didn't even have to unlock the phone.

Surely there is a faster way to set the Galaxy S2 to Silent Mode. Can someone hit me with a clue stick here?

There are several ways

1. Press and hold the power button. The first option in the pop up is the Silent Mode.

2. Hold the volume down button till it goes all the way down.

3. Drag down the notification menu, there is the "Silent Mode" button right there.

Or you can download widget for the home screen to turn on the silent mode on/off.

This just powers the phone completely off. I must have misunderstood what you meant.

2. Hold the volume down button till it goes all the way down.

Works, but inconvenient, and noisy.

3. Drag down the notification menu, there is the "Silent Mode" button right there.

Best idea yet. Still have to unlock the phone first, though.

Done. Still not as convenient as it was on the MyTouch 3G. This is probably as easy as it can be until I can root this thing and get rid of Touchwiz. I'm sure it's Touchwiz that fails to put a silent option on the initial screen.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Am I missing something? Silent mode is in the notification bar.

Yes, you missed the fact that my previous phone was a MyTouch 3G where I could hit the physical home button, which brought up the unlock screen, and on the unlock screen there was a button to swipe that would turn on silent mode. No need to unlock the phone first.

But once I figured out what LunchBB meant about the power button, it's just as fast and easy. I just need to get used to it.

I found Silent Mode Gold, a free app that solves most of my silent mode needs. I really need silent mode only when I am in class, and Silent Mode Gold allows me to silence the phone automatically on a schedule. It's great because I don't have to try to remember to silence the phone before each class. Having to use the power button is still an option, but I don't need to use it very often now.

Is this a free app or paid app?

If it does what you say it does, I don't mind dishing out $.99 for it.

Does it also give you a notification when it will go in silent mode??

I am currently in class and forgot to silence my phone.

Totally free. Works perfectly. I had a friend in the class call me during the break. Not a peep from the phone. But when I hit the power button the unlock screen showed a call coming in.

Better than 95% of the time when I need to silence the phone it is because of class. This app eliminates having to remember.
