ICS and the Galaxy Nexus are here! Are you impressed, or let down?

I don't see how you guys are so upset about such a big jump in technology. This phone will blow away every other on the market today.

I think for many, including me, it was a let down. Regardless of the capabilities, the announcement was lack luster. No huge fireworks and nothing that resembles an iPhone killer. Most of the specs were had well in advance which left little to be desired at the announcement.

I have not dug through to see all the enhancements of ICS. I shouldn't have to. They should have provided marketing material that identifies the enhancements. Some of the highlighted enhancements are gimmicky.

The things that draw me to this phone are 4G LTE and SAMOLED HD assuming the GPU is able to perform better than that initial GLbenchmark. We'll know more in the coming days. The good news is that we have options now.

I'm pretty pumped on this one. The 3 main complaints I've been reading are:

1. Lack of SD card slot

After owning a Dinc for the last year and a half and having a dedicated SD card slot, I've never once thought about changing my 16 gb card that I have installed. It's plenty of space. Coud storage is the future. I could care less that this phone is lacking a slot. If I really need the extra storage, I'll get the 32 gb. Hopefully it's no more than $299, or else Google/Samsung really dropped the ball.

2. 5 mp camera

I think people are WAY over criticizing this point. I have a dedicated DSLR that I can take my big boy shots with. This is a freaking phone camera. I'd say 99% of my phone shooting is for FB or sharing online. These photos could be 3 mp and I'd be happy as long as the sensor is decent. More mp does not equal better shots. Total misconception. Furthermore, 8 mp shots just take up more of that precious memory space, going back to point 1.

3. 1.2 ghz dual core

Can't believe people are crying about it not being a 1.5. Aside from running benchmarks and clearly proving that you have the smallest penis, why would an extra .3 make any difference? Heck, my single core Dinc still runs android without a hickup. The day to day experience is not solely based on how fast your CPU is clocked. Apple has demonstrated this on many occasions. Wake up

All in all, I'm looking forward to upgrading. I thought Google knocked it out last night. New phone, new OS, new goodies, etc. They innovated and did something that Apple failed on after 16 months of waiting. Kudos to el Goog

I guess I'll never understand it because I don't put a bunch and bunch of apps on my phones, nor a ton of music, even movies, but what is it that a lack of SD card kills it for people? I mean 16 & 32 gb native is honestly more then enough. Its not a laptop hard drive lol. Are you really going to interact with everything you put on that phone? I have a few apps I don't even mess with. I have tons of pictures but that takes up little space.

My take is...why not? Why not just put it on board? If some use it, let them use it, if some don't, let them chill on the cloud! Android has always been about choice! And by leaving it out, you give an Android user no choice at all except the one you the manufacturer made for th user...hmm

Sounds like the Fruit way of doing things! What's next...Phones with sealed batteries? Lol....

Because man. They need the extra FPS in games they'll never notice. You won't notice any bump of .3 just browsing ICS.

This is a huge upgrade for anyone on verizon. Again I just hope that those software buttons can be toggled on and off. When they browsed it was 4.3". When they played games it was 4.3" When they looked at the camera, pictures and video it was 4.65". That is the back-breaker for me. Otherwise, I'll wait for either the next big screen phone to come out or quadcore.

I understand there will be tweaks to remove the software buttons but no one knows how reliable they'll be. I dont want to wait for that. Big screen, fast phone, beautiful resolution. 3 most important things.

SD would be great and if it isn't stop using flac for your music. You will not ever hear any or a big difference vs v0 unless you start using DACs and AMPs.

You dont need 30gigs of music. You'll never listen to all of it and new music is always coming out. Shuffle always plays the same 50 songs over...

You dont need 50000 pictures on your phone.

You dont need the best GPU since no android games will utilize what the 4S has, anytime soon. Get a VITA.

nothing i havent ranted about before.

Just to play devils advocate :D:

1.SD Slot was something that Apple never had...forget the fact that hardly anyone goes to 32 GB, just the option to add a micro SD card to you phone was nice to have..

2.5MP camera is fine with me, buuuuut the everyday user just thinks the higher the number, the better the pics will be....plus its very strange that the SG2 and RAZR both have 8 Mp....

3.In all honestly, i think 1.2 ghz is more than enough on this phone, so can't really see how anyone could complain, it seems like they did some optimization here to integrate with ICS..

All in all I will definitely be getting the Samsung Galaxy Nexus/Prime (I like that name better)

And a side note, does anyone know what the "Register" option does on google.com/nexus...i've been checking my email for updates but nothing so far

I have found my next phone.

No SD is no big deal for me. I do a lot of cloud based storage for stuff, and I'll just go with the 32 gig model just in case. As for rooting, the Nexus S had no SD card and they did just fine.

The camera shouldn't be a big deal. Sammy's sensors are just as good as Apple's; I am in no way worried about it being 5 MP. That pano feature they showed off was awesome.

As for the "bump" feature and facial unlock. Gimmicks? Sure. But Apple throws a bunch of gimmicky stuff in their phones. This is going to be an awesome phone me thinks.

I think most people in this forum understand the argument that an 8MP camera isn't necessarily better than a 5. The problem is that in the hands on write ups I've read so far the camera seems to be somewhat unimpressive. Good but not great seems to be the consensus. The zero lag feature is really cool but the image quality seems like it might be a slight step down from the gs2 and certainly nowhere near the iPhone 4s. That camera is a beast. No I'm not advocating anyone pick up an iPhone, but they seem to know what they're doing in the camera department

I don't know what write ups you saw on cameras of both phone. But this one seems like Nexus camera is just every bit as good as iPhone4S.

This I have to agree on about the iphone! However, My Droid Charge took some really good pics, as does the Bionic...For the exception of the crazy insane time it takes for the auto focus to lock in...Which is my one really big gripe about the Bionic in the first place.

Nahh, no way brother! I watched a bunch of Videos from last nights hands on and what not, and a few people said the camera is ehh. While it's Super fast when taking pics, some of the pics just come out blehh! I'd much rather have a phone that takes good quality pics and just locks on within a sec, instead of taking 5 pics within 5 seconds and 3 are bad. The UI for the camera looks really slick...However, I just dont see it being as good as say the S2...Which is 8 megapixels, why they went with 5 is beyond me. the same Camera as the S2 would have been plenty good.

I was definitely impressed! Not so much at first just reading the blogs, but after having watched the replay of the event and seen everything in motion--it really got me excited to see the direction Android is taking.

My ONE disappointment...

No SD card slot. How am I going to backup on the fly so easily? ROM flashers are going to die. But then again, with 4.0 maybe we won't be needing to root and ROM.

Maybe?

I dont feel like digging this one up. Does anyone remember hearing if Gorilla Glass is used for the screen?

I'm also interested in this info if anyone knows. Or if it's some sort of scratch resistant screen.

As for the thread topic. I was a little surprised at the hardware specs. Dissapointed might be a little strong, because if I was dissapointed I probably wouldn't still be considering buying it. As long as the reviews look good once it's released, no big buggy issues, and it goes it Verizon then I'll probably upgrade from the Incredible. I think I was just expecting a little more from the hardware side. I'm sure it is just penny pinching, but I figured they would at least match what is already available or will be shortly in the processor speed, GPU, etc... (camera seems highly debated both ways, so I won't say that, but it's interesting that they have a similar phone out with an 8MP camera. I would hope the 5MP is somehow a better / improved camera then, and this wasn't just a money saving thing.)

I think the new RAZR is ugly as shit, and generally have gotten to not like any Motorola phone. The HTC Vigor / Rezound is something I may keep an eye on, but I'm also very interested in giving Vanilla Android a try. I agree with others on this that the various overlays (Sense, TouchWiz) can be nice, but I see how it could bog down a phone more. I also like that the Galaxy Nexus will be virtually free of any bloatware. No Sense and no bloatware makes me think it will be able to make the absolute most of what's under the hood.

I'm also curious how this thing will play out with people saying apparently the CDMA verison will have a slightly larger battery. I like how the phone looks now, but if it gets fatter I may not. On a side note, does anyone else think the front (mostly the top) makes it look a little bit like the older generation iPhone 3g? Obviously the bottom half is different with no button, but the curves of the phones edges also sort of look iPhone 3Gish to me.
