***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Don't count on Verizon marketing this thing AT ALL. They are too heavily invested in Motorola and the Droid brand to give any attention to a "superior" device. Motorola is Verizon's preferred manufacturer and they will get all the marketing efforts to sell the RAZR. It's up to folks like you and me to push the Nexus to the masses and make it a spectacular success.

It will be interesting to see how this changes if at all once the Google purchase is complete. I mean would Google allow the razr to block and upstate the nexus if the were formally in control of Motorola?

Guys, I have one question:

Secondary microphone? I know that the lack of a second microphone (amongst other things) made talking on the phone in noisy environments with my Nexus S a real pain.

There is one on the back at the very top where the battery cover meets the phone about 1/3 from the right. Looks like a little pinhole.

The Google acquisition deal has not gone down yet. Moto Stockholders don't even vote on it until November 17th... plenty of time for both phones to drop. I'm not worried about the proposed merger getting in the way of either phone.

Steven,

I just wanted to check in, solely because of all the negativity surrounding the possible release/cancellation of the Verizon version of SGN.

I talked with 4 different (Verizon) people today,(information deleted) and all say that Verizon is DEFINITELY getting this device in "early November". I can't say if it's the 3rd or the 10th, because I honestly don't know, but I haven't been told that the date of the 3rd has changed. That could go either way. But it will DEFINITELY hit stores early November. (Information deleted) Spoke to a recent tester of the device, and he/she says that there is NO PROBLEM with 4G connectivity, and he's not sure where that rumor came from.

You're not going to see anything resembling the push that RAZR is going to get with marketing, but it will be in stores. Early November.

Hope that helps.

It's a good day in the neighborhood! Mangia Bene!

Steven note: My words are in italics, to protect the source.

Thanks, Steven!

IMHO - I think we'd see at least some of a push for the Nexus, but still see the razr advertised more. I don't think google wants every joe blow to have this phone. You know it's going to have small issues, whether it's apps not working right away or tiny things within ICS itself. Google doesn't want the average user to get a bad taste because of these issues. Those of us who know there are going to be fixes coming as quickly as they find the issues will be ok with this phone but there are people who would whine and moan and complain because there's a problem.

Google does want every Joe Blow to have the phone because it believes it is the best phone and offers the best user experience. They wouldn't design the phone and OS that way if they didn't.

That being said, Google will win whether it sells the RAZR or Nexus. It's main competition comes from Apple, Microsoft and Blackberry. Having two phones that can target different demographics away from the competition is smart for any company.

Good morning, fellow Nexlings!

Yes.

Hans Olo is not only a viable name, Hans is one of the most popular first names for the Olo surname.

So...Hans over there better get used to it, because I am forever going to refer to him as hans Olo.

This is huge news.

Steven, can we get a "slap" button installed?

I wonder why the lack of marketing for the Gnex? I thought it was supposed to be something big, the ipod killer, the phone to end all phones? Wouldn't that be something you'd want to advertise heavily, especially with the ICS factor in play?

I think we will probably see a lot of marketing, but mainly from Samsung and Google, not so much Verizon. I'd be highly shocked if Verizon didn't market it at all, but having said that, I think the RAZR will get more marketing money thrown its way.

Am I the only one worried about lack of FCC?

It shouldn't be an issue. RAZR didn't show up until the announcement, and neither did iPhone 4S. Verizon's version hasn't been announced yet, but once it does, you'll see it pop up.

On a side note, I hadn't thought of referring to the Nexus as "SGN" until the Love Tunnel brought it up in Steven's leak. I kinda like it. Reminds me of SGU, BSG, and other sci-fi shows who died too young.

I'm still a fish that will not bite. I am looking and swimming around it, but once bitten. Feeling warm but no fuzzy.

Announcement was 3 days ago and no official announcement from the exclusive carrier , no FCC, no leaks picked up by the tech blogs. My interest and confidence of a release are begininng to wane.

October 27th is the day i step off this Nexus blackout.

I know the acquisition hasn't gone down yet. And I wasn't thinking it would hold it up. What I was saying is say a year from now what's Verizon and Motorola's relationship going to be like with Google owning them. Would we see Google making sure the nexus gets pushed over the razr? Does Verizon feel they have to carry future nexus phones to maintain their relationship with Motorola? If Motorola is Verizon's favored oem now then that's basically saying Google is their favored oem next year.

The answer to that is quite simple:

I have no idea :D

I thought the RAZR went through a while ago but some research does show that it passed right after announcement. This seems like a new trend for Verizon. They're usually good for outing it a month ahead of time with FCC filings.

Correct. They didnt want any info to get out about the handset and kept it under heavy wraps. Supposedly its Verizons baby and im going to assume its going to be their answer to Samsungs Galaxy line-up moving forward.

Expounding on this thought a bit, has anyone seen a RAZR commercial on TV yet? It's online at Verizon, of course, and all of us phone dorks know all about it, but it occurs to me that VZ hasn't really pushed it hard yet...Saw a Bionic commercial yesterday, but you get the sense that VZ is pulling back quickly to get into pitch mode for the RAZR. I honestly don't expect VZ to announce anything regarding the Nexus until after they've "started the show" with the RAZR and to me it doesn't look like that's been done yet. There will probably be a week of RAZR commercials and then maybe we'll see the Nexus on the website and nothing more. I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that there won't be a single VZ commercial for the Nexus. That will all be Sammy and Google, if it happens at all.

So, kinda related, kinda not related...maybe showing my ignorance as an "uber" tech person. I know that at times, my OG droid totally freezes. Like will not turn off using the on/off button, etc. On the GN, you can do a battery pull, which will fix the issue (I would hope to never really have that issue! but you have that option). With the Droid Razr, you can't do that, so how would you do a "battery pull" type action so to speak on that device?

Hope that's not too confusing to understand!

YodaDroid posted over in the RAZR forum that there's a way to simulate a batt pull by long-pressing the power button and holding down one of the other volume buttons (i believe it's the volume rocker, anyway). kind of like doing ctrl+alt+delete on your pc, without having to unplug.

Google also wins, regardless, since all indications are that whatever profits Moto makes will soon become Google's profits, as well. i'm sure Google is rooting for success of the RAZR.

Agree with you completely. It's winner winner Chicken Dinner for Google no matter what. Also probably the reason why the RAZR will get ICS so quickly - if reports from Moto and Google are true and they likely are...

Didn't most of the tech blogs say Verizon early November a while ago? I don't think they rehash their stories every time an attention craving twitter user makes a comment.

I haven't read or seen anything since the HK event. Usually after these Nexus events the story is picked up that the Nexus will be available through XYZ carrier starting_insert month here_ at _insert price here_
