***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

So I guess now I know why CK isn't here. . .he's been posting on the RAZR forum that he's definitely going to get that phone and will be passing on the SGN because of it's sucky build quality. . .

That's too bad. Now I have no one to fight with. :(

I am impressed that he was able to get his hands on both already to determine the GNex's build quality was so poor as to over-rule the better processor, better screen, and better OS.

right, because they wanted to announce it at 6 pm on friday? with no price or release date?

it was obviously done to tell us to shut the hell up, its coming, but they either 1) dont know exactly when 2) dont want to tell us its coming so soon so no one buys their razor

thank you again steve, and thanks again mr source for all your work. really appreciate it

Yeah. I believe Steve and the source, but not sure I FULLY believe the exec he talked to about a Tuesday release of the SAME info as it seems silly to wait a full week to say, "Yeah, we will get it, sometime before the end of the year." Why not just send a PR peon to HK, to present that info same day?

Who knows the whole story, but awesome that we got them to promise a release of the phone.

Just wanted to say that I am for one happy that vzw officially commented on this phone. and I'm not sure if this was posted Another Verizon Leak Reveals Possible Samsung Galaxy Nexus Launch Date

First off, I believe the sources out there saying 11/3 or 11/10, but that document looks weird to me. The sorting doesn't look right...make and model one would think might be alphabetical, but it's obviously not. Price isn't highest to lowest
or vice versa...the CLOSEST thing to a normal sorting scheme is the release date...completely in order except for the razr...surely there would be some order on a doc like this right?

If tuesday announcement was really true, I expect to see pricing and dates on or around that day, as Verizon has listed price and dates on every release before this one.

I know those of us who participated in the twitter blast yesterday were patting ourselves on the back for seemingly forcing Verizon's hand. I didn't think about this, but according to the source there were some higher ups wringing their hands over this phone. I actually wonder if the massive effort actually improved those execs attitude towards the phone, to see how much support there was for it, i.e. how much money they were going to make from it.

I don't mean to be a killjoy, and I certainly don't mean to insult the source (or Steven by association), but a company simply isn't going to compromise a presumably carefully orchestrated business plan merely to empty their spam folders.

As you pointed out, RAZR may be influencing the timing. We've speculated that VZW wouldn't want much fanfare around Nexus when RAZR is supposed to be the star, and press releases on a Friday night are the traditional time when politicians and companies release news that they want buried.

But I understand the desire for validation, and there's nothing I can say that will convince anybody who sent out an email or tweet that Verizon's timing isn't a victory for the common man (and BabyBlues). I'll just ask that those wielding such awesome power to please use some of it to cajole VZW into releasing the 32GB version at $199. TIA.

Just from watching everything so far, I think it is going WAY OUT THERE, to call ANY of this or the RAZR announcement and such "carefully orchestrated". I would be less likely to say this if they atleast allowed google to say they would be one of the US carriers in SOME way. It would have meant two device announcements for their network on the same day, but to MANY that would be a GOOD thing PR wise. ANY effort to marginalize the Nexus PR is generally BAD PR move when it's got the most interest on it's own merits from your customers.

i thought the same thing, and the only sense i could make of the tuesday thing was that they were giving the razr a week on its own before announcing another device, but even that didnt make much sense because then it would have been announced right before the razr preorder starts, so who knows

Yes, unless you take into consideration that they're adding a "pre-order date" at the end. That technically isn't a release date, so it wouldn't be included with the others. Maybe the Rezound and SGN don't have pre-ordering. I think the Love Tunnel said something about SGN's pre-order plans, but I don't remember what it was.

I doubt it. You probably won't see anything on this til a week before it officially releases. I don't think they announced a price and date for the Bionic until just before release.

I find it way too coincidental that Verizon decided to release the announcement on a Friday evening (not typical; morning announcements towards the beginning of the week are best, like they did with the RAZR), after 3 hours of constant flooding by tweets and e-mails to senior executives, including the Chief Marketing Officer for Verizon.

I guess I should have specified that I was basing my expectations on that rumor of next tuesday being true. I personally believe they were going to wait until after the pre-order date for the RAZR. so a WEEK from Tuesday could be believable. But lately Verizon has taken to putting out the announcement only a day or two before release, and letting the rumor and leak mill run wild before that. Announcement on 11/1, Pre-order date 11/3, release 11/10. That is my opinion of their original plan.

The photos/videos taken of the Galaxy Nexus so far show just over 13GB available to the user on the 16GB version. P3Droid's photos show this as well.

Interesting, since only about 14.7gb is free to begin with, so only 1.7gb taken for ICS allocation, firmware and stock apps? Seems low, but good none the less.

The 10gb statement also accounts for the operational floor of HC and ICS. If anyone has noticed, you can not install or update most apps if less than about 1gb remaining. Low storage error pops up, since shared space.

Think he's a metal head as he ad mention his glocks and various other metal things he likes. So it's material as much as solidness. The RAZR will seem more premium in hand even if it's no more solid or really of truly superior build I figure.

Not to mention that not all people have access to fast download speeds from the cloud. A lot of people don't yet live in 4G areas, and a lot of them don't have unlimited data. Cloud storage would be out of the question for them. Also, as has been stated before, constantly downloading music from the cloud would eat up your battery faster than simply pulling it from a larger on-board storage shed.

Here, problem solved...

:D

So, do we think for us VZW customers with corporate discounts, that we'll be able to get the Nexus at a discounted rate? When the bolt came out, I was able to get it on a 1 yr for $229 which was pretty great. The bionic would have been $249 on a 2 year contract for me, so I'm hoping the SGN will be $249 for a 2 year with 32GB. That's my prediction. Only thing I'm a little worried about is that they don't give corporate discounts at all for the iphones.

I sure hope so. I have my fingers crossed on a couple fronts. Would love to get a $50 corporate discount here AND need to coax Verizon into giving me my last NE2 a month or so early (not technically eligible until 12/27). I was hoping of sneaking away with only paying $199 if it's listed $299 on contract.

I agree. If nothing else all the emails and tweets made them realize there is enough demand for this phone to make it profitable both in 2 year contract renewals and in new business from people leaving other carriers to come to Verizon for not just the network by a specific phone experience (don't think they've ever see that before). I'd think they should be feeling a little more comfortable about the GN today then there were earlier this week.

They also would not have said "Later this year". That would come across as misleading and sarcastic to customers if just a few weeks. If it were just a few weeks, they would not say that unless ran by aholes.

Yes, but that wouldn't hold true for the RAZR then. They announced it 10/18, and they're not starting pre-ordering until more than a week later, and who knows when it will actually release.

I think that a lot of what we previously held to be true is changing. We're not seeing FCC docs 30 days before release anymore. The way they're orchestrating announcements could be another thing that is changing.

It did say stainless steel chassis didn't it? That is going to be one dense phone.

... Yay 500 posts :D

What kind of battery pack do you need for THAT to offset what the op states? ;) Seems the point is the combo of data caps, data coverage and cloud storage dependency are not a very good recipe for a lot of consumers at this point in time, unless hanging at the house when using it. In which case, buying a Flyer for $300 or a similar device is more practical and better than a phone. Even better display and lower cost.

I'm not sure if you're implying that we won't see the SGN in November. . .but I think that most large corporations (and law firms) are run by aholes anyway. They almost have to be, if they're going to make any large amount of money.

But I think the ambiguous "later this year" has more to do with not wanting to take any thunder away from the RAZR than anything else. Like I said previously, they're not going to give preferential treatment to the SGN over their own branded Droid. Giving any sort of a release date for the SGN before they do with the RAZR would be tantamount to preferential treatment.

I'm still going to stick with what was said at the Nexus unveiling in HK. Shipping to the U.S. in November.

I'm right there with you. Same date for NE2 also. Right now when I log in I see $40 off pretty much all the new phones so I guess that's my corporate discount. I'm also hoping to get them to move my NE2 up so that I can use it when this phone drops. Don't know how well that will work since it's moving it almost 2 months but we'll see.
