Yesterday I only got about 8 hours once I unplugged it - but this was probably my fault having left apps (like the browser) running. I wish the apps could be more easily turned off without having to go to system settings, apps, manage apps.

What is the most I could realistically expect from this phone, assuming I can get these background apps under control: 24 hrs? >24 hrs?

Best for me has been 14 hours.

If you go to settings/ About Phone/ battery use...

You'll get an idea of what's sucking up the power. 8/10 it's the display brightness.

I doubt leaving the browser open in the background will be using that much power as once a page is loaded it's doing nothing whilst asleep.

I can assure you it's not the apps running in the background that is causing the poor battery problem....

try using "advanced task killer" free app on android market. u can set autokill frequency to kill unwanted apps every time u lock the screen... so if u have a ton of apps running in the background when you lock the screen they are being automaticly killed by the task killer. so you don't have to worry about killing them instantly... very usefull :)

Hi, Huawei suggest:
5.3 How do I maximize the battery life?
1. Press Power Button to lock the screen when you do not use the phone.
2. Set the screen timeout to the smallest value: Touch Menu > Settings >Display > Screen timeout.
3. Set the screen brightness to a lower degree: Touch Menu > Settings >Display > Brightness.
4. Turn off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi: Touch Menu > Settings > Wireless & networks and uncheck Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
5. Disable background data synchronization: Touch Menu > Settings > Accounts & sync and uncheck Background data and Auto-sync.
6. Disable data service: Touch Menu > Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks and uncheck Data enabled.
7. Disable GPS: Touch Menu > Settings > Location & security and uncheck Use GPS satellites.
8. Use only 2G networks: Touch Menu > Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks and uncheck Use only 2G networks.
Battery life will greatly extended. Cheers Neil.

I recomend GoLauncher together with their optimizer. Its all free.
It made even my LG P500 last more than a day.
But for my Huawei Honor (8860) the battery capasity is absolutely great. It can last nearly 12 hours with anything that you can possibly think of turned on.
On savingsmode with GoLaunchers optimizer youl'll not run out of battery as it also tells you estimated time left (also estimated charging time left wen charging).
On Daily bases my gprs and WiFi is on constantly as the phone is connected to the internet. I use it for normal calls, skype calls and sms during a day. Maybe even play a little. and it will keep going the whole day until bedtime

I use Juice Defender myself as it seems to control power requirements OK. Each to his own.
There is an article advising non-use of Task Killers somewhere in this Forum. It was written by a guy who writes programs and he stated that as all Androids work on Linux system, there is no drain when the program is not in use.
Worth searching for and reading. Neil.
