Another reason your battery drains so fast...

The standard battery gauge deals in increments of 10%. What does that mean? It means if your battery is at 99% charge, it's likely the battery meter is rounding down to 90%, simply because it doesn't have the ability to display 99% or 98%, etc. I don't think it's all because of the way the phone charges. Just seemed like a logical reason. I'm not really sure why they designed it this way... Laptops can display battery %'s in increments of 1%... Lazy developers maybe?

Keep in mind any battery widgets that give you 1% increments are just estimating anyway based on usage and how long it was since the system reported a 10% change.


Actually circle battery widget reads a system file. The system is very capable of reading in 1% increments, but for some reason it doesn't. Rooting can allow you to install a hack to enable 1%, but without root, CircleBatteryWidget is VERY accurate.

I would think that, even superficially, an app that is changing the way the battery looks at every percentage point is actually using more battery juice than an app that only changes every 10%, (I'm comparing 2 unrooted phones, so no system hack to actually read the battery percentage every 1%).

After all, not only is it (presumably) polling the battery more often, it is also having to change text and / or icons to match the change. Any process that runs on the phone is going to use battery juice so....

Explain it to me again how it's actually saving battery juiceto have a smaller increment battery measure?

I don't think it is saving juice to have a smaller increment, but I highly doubt it makes any measurable difference to display them in 1%.

If this was the case I would see Circle Battery Widget show up in the battery report, which it has never been.
