Root Ice-Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) custom rom

I was wondering if anyone could estimate how long it will take after ice-cream sandwich is released we will get a custom rom for it, or if anyone knows if anyone has said they will attempt to create a custom rom for us.

Also if anyone know how long it took for CM6 and 7, after froyo and gingerbread were released, to be made that would help for a very rough estimate.

I just wanna be up to date in my phones version lol

1. Source code hasn't being released yet 2. Don't think the gt540 is good enough to run it

1. I know it hasnt been released yet, which is why I said an estimate.

2. the GT540 isnt supposed to be good enough to run gingerbread but if certain features are removed it can be made to be less demanding and so it will beable to run, for example gingerbread supposedly needs a 1Ghz processor to run, which is why its a little laggy on the GT540.

It's been some days since last reply on this topic.
Any news?

Not that I have seen, but we will not see anything till the galaxy nexus release which is tomorrow, people tried to port the SDK version of ICS to our phone but it didnt work because the SDK rom only supports ARM v7 cpus and ours is a ARM v6.

Galaxy nexus is released tomorrow so we just need to get the rom off it then people can work on porting it.

Mike Gapinski has created and uploaded a ICS rom that should work on our device, I must stress that this is a pre-alpha release and therefore not much works.

Please use the download link in the quote as it supports Mike

This is however a pre-alpha release, I cant stress this enough, so there will be many bugs and alot of broken features. Incase anyone didnt know what the Wifi and GSM comment in the quote means is that he has included the drivers for the Wifi and GSM chips, however they dont work because I would assume a compatibility problem, if you download it ensure you have a full nandroid backup of your current rom to roll back.

One last thing, this is a pre-alpha release and alot of features will be broken download at your own risk, I will keep people over here upto date as much as I can.

Edit: Unless I get beaten to it, I will make a new thread for Mike's ICS rom when it has more features working and it will be worthwhile updating.

yeah wifi, bluetooth and some other bugs are now fixed! :)
Though i asked dudeman1996 if he could continue with the ICS thread...
but it doesn't matter to me as i will be only updating the thread until
the beta and then i will remove it! :):)

BTW beta version is completed and apparently mike is uploading it but
his internet isn't working sooo we have to wait and see!

38 minutes ago Mike Tweeted:

@mikegapinski: so guys :D prepare for a little gift today

He's been saying on Twitter how he's got the .35 kernel finished and fixed features in ICS. So hopefully today is the day we get a working release of ICS! :D

EDIT: at 7:36 pm GMT (40 mins ago) he said he's ODEXing and uploading the ROM!

Would this work with my LG esteem? Im fairly new to the whole rooting world but, I really want ICS on my phone but, at the same time dont want to completely fry my phone :)

You will need a dev to port it to your device, the ICS release for this phone will not work for other phones because it was made specificly for this phone.
