I had the same issue, and then I downloaded HTC Sync, which brought along the drivers I needed. Go download that, and you should be good to go.
However, might I ask what OS you're running, along with your CPU and amt of RAM?
Where did you get HTC Sync? On the Evo 4G, it came with the sdcard. Not there anymore...
I just got the EVO 3D because my EVO 4G wouldn't sync anymore. I've downloaded the latest update of HTC Sync for both phones and the phones just can't find it on my PC. I'm using Windows XP Pro. This is driving me to distraction. Sprint and HTC Tech Support couldn't help me. They said I was doing everything right.
My EVO 4G was still under warranty. I had an upgrade available so I sold the EVO 4G for $87 and tried 2 Samsung Epic 4G Touch's with disastrous results. Those kept overheating with regular use, plus the screens would freeze when I had the charger plugged in. That never happened with the EVO 4G.
So I've spent money I really shouldn't have had to unless there is a new solution. I did try the link in post # 5. When I clicked to download HTC Sync for the HTC Smart, I got a blank page with a "bad request" message.
Can anyone help me? The manager at my local store said this is the last phone they will let me try. I've been syncing phones for years. I'm not sure what to do from here. My PC recognizes the phone is plugged in because I can charge and open the drive to view files on the phone, etc.
Thank you in advance.

Try plugging in the usb cord in the other usb port on your computer.
Hmmm, what troubles.
With our collective minds I'm pretty confident that we can get to the bottom of this.
Try this link first: HTC Mobile Phone Support - HTC EVO 3D (Sprint) - Downloads The link in post #5 was from before the Evo 3D product page was fully updated with the downloads area (looking at the original post date for this thread, that was during release week) also they have since upgraded the Sync drivers to a new version. The HTC Sync drivers are probably 32 bit drivers for the majority of people operating systems out there, if you are running a 64 bit system that might be part of the issue as well. Also, it sounds a bit suspect that your Evo 4G was syncing via HTC Sync just fine and then stopped syncing one day (let me know if this is wrong though). If it just up and stopped Syncing one day then I would think there is an issue or conflict on the computer/software side of things
I'm not trying to sound like a smart alec here but of curiosity, if you can charge the phone and open the folders to view files, add and remove files, etc. what else are you trying to accomplish? Looking to sync Outlook calendars and contacts or something?

Actually I ran into this on my netbook. For some strange reason it would read my EVO 3D from one port and not another. Also, it could have to do with what drive is assigned to external storage. I'm not in front of my pc at the moment so I can't give exact instructions (I'm posting from my phone) but go to the Administrative Tools and go to Manage Hardware (and I think External Storage from there) and change the drive assignment. I will try to come back on later and give more details. I hope this at least gives you a starting point.
OK, go into Administrative Tools-->Computer Management-->Disk Management. Right Click on Disk Management and click on Change Drive Letter and Paths. You would want to change this to a drive that is not already assigned. Again, just another thing to try!
Thank you for replying. My main concern is that I add new contacts all the time and I used to be able to see the phone syncing. Not so now, but if the phone will sync automatically, then it may not be a problem at all. I'll try the link you posted.
(Edit)
Thanks. I'll try that.

Thank you for your help.
So how did it go? Any updates?
How did that work out for you...I am running Win 7 64bit...I unlocked it but unfortunately used the wire trick and can't get passed the white screen with the bootup reboot, etc screen......When I plug my phone into the PC it won't recognize it
