I'm wondering if someone can help me with my slaxy S2, i came from an iphone 4 and fount that very easy to use, now having this galaxy S2 i wouldn't go back to an iphone i'm REALLY happy with it and all the features it has over the ios software but a few things bugs me!

1 of them is how do updates work? normally by plugging in iphone into itunes i get told theres an update, on android i understand theres OTA updates but have to be through you carrier approval blah blah blah theres updates that are rooted etc? i'm confused and just want to update when needed can someone explain this please? i have a galaxy s2 on 02uk running gingerbread.

another one is the app store, yet again (and sorry to mention) apple have 1 marketplace, the galaxy s2 has numerous app stores and can get very confusing as to where you re-download your purchases if lost!

and lastly is backing up, i understand samsung have there own service (kies) but i can't seem to back up on this nor transfer purchases!? all i can do is see what's on my device.

Samsung galaxy S2, using kies on an imac i5 but adding media through usb debugging as this seems the easiest way.

thanks for your help in advance and sorry again to mention the fruity competitor but i'm sold on android now and love my S2!

If you're not rooted/jailbroken, you will get updates OTA (over the air) and a message will pop up saying there's an update ready for you, and will give you instructions (like accept or decline). I don't own a S2, so I don't know how kies does it.

And you don't have to use any other app store other than the Android Market. Personally, I don't use anything else other than the Android Market for anything other than the Free App of the Day on the Amazon one. Most other markets just link to the Android Market, anyways (like AppBrain, for instance).

I am rooted, but no custom ROM. I get the annoying stuff anyway, so suspect some could be the carrier. SGS4G/TMO
