Poor??? Understatement. (IMO anyway)

I am very much looking forward to a camera with the ability to grab a pic when I want it rather than when it wants to. Although I have gotten quite good at hitting the shutter button a couple seconds before the anticipated picture. (I only have issues on split second things)

Yep. Tried getting a pic out a window of a moving car the other day (wasn't driving). Missed the scene completely, but I do have a nice picture of nothing.

The longer the wait, the less appealing it becomes.
No SD slot
16Gb ?
HD screen old news
ICS old news
Vanilla ?

Every time a week goes by we get some more news that it will be delayed another week. Next week the rumor will be it is not coming until 12/8.

Every week that goes by is another week closer to the "next big thing" on the horizon too. Another week closer to Moto's "alleged" update of the Razr to ICS, another week closer to . . . well I guess another week closer to the Nexus but with all the other thing listed will as many care?

Now everyone knows where all the Mr Blurry cam shots come from :)

I cant believe they would release a phone with a camera that doesnt focus. Perhaps they will drop that feature and add a focus feature.

I doubt they had a second Gnex taking a picture of a Gnex. More likely they were using a Razr to snap the pics. :p

Yeah, I know what you meant.

I think VZW is enjoying watching us squirm at this point. We are merely entertainment to them because they know we are going to give them our money already. It's kinda like a cat that plays with a mouse before killing it.

Hmm, I don't know. I understand what they're doing, I just don't like it.

Take my line of work, for example. Without getting specifics, I'll just say that last year, there was a case that I was just itching to go to court on. But, there were a bunch of pre-hearing motions that were filed, a lot of interrogatories had to be sent out, a ton of depositions that had to be taken (it was a pretty bad sexual harassment suit. Not the "hey, you look pretty" stuff. It was bad). I really, really wanted to prosecute it because I knew how much the victim had suffered and it really pissed me off. However, there was another case that I was kind of ho hum about, but it was a slam dunk. So my boss put that one ahead of the one I really wanted. Anyway, the victim in the first case was PISSED at the delays and kept calling and calling our office. I personally spoke to him/her almost daily, reassuring that I felt the same way, but that things had to move a bit more slowly on it because of the complexities. The person had a hard time understanding it, because to them it was such an open and shut case, which it wasn't. Eventually, we did go to court, and the defendant ended up getting some jail time (like I said, it was bad) and the company this a-hole worked for had to cough up a huge fine. So it turned out great.

My point is, that we don't know all the inner workings of what's going on. RAZR and ReHound are probably good to go, no delays necessary. Maybe the Nexus has some signal issues, dropped calls, etc. (like the "other" source alluded to). If Verizon was to release the Nexus as is, we'd probably all be pissed. It's not like we'd be able to return them in a month for "improved" SGN's. We'd be stuck, and even more hateful towards Verizon than normal.

So, a part of me says Verizon isn't "out to get" us. But, I could be wrong and they could all be devils. Who knows.

I guess the point is that now we have a choice and don't necessarily have to wait on the camera's software to tell us when to shoot.

PS: I don't think we're going to hit 20k, unless you guys man up. Open up and share your feelings. Men. (Steven shakes his head). ;)

You are right, we aren't going to hit 20k, but I'm sure you're going to ninja 20k. You little sneak, act like you don't care and then, BAM. "Who, me?" :D

Meh, I'm going for post 26,219. That's the number of feet in a marathon, exactly what waiting for this phone feels like.

Yeah - I have a lot of those. Although once in a while I get lucky (no comments please) and get a good one (again, no comments)

Just for kicks here's one of my favorites that wasn't anything what I expected but love it:

Chill dude. I said if it was a viable option for you coverage-wise to do so then it might be an option. I switched from AT&T to Verizon 2 years ago. Service is honestly about the same in this area...just more widespread 3G here with Verizon and 4G is very nearby. AT&T still doesn't have 3G where I live, but as far as call quality...about the same for me. Data and 3G/4G coverage was what made me switch.

Yeah coverage is really hit or miss where I live att actually is an Tad better and an Tad cheaper.depending on where you live sometimes att is better than vzw in other areas vzw is better than att

I'm going to stay optimistic on the camera. I've said it many times before, but ZSL doesn't mean much if it doesn't focus first.

I'm sure there will be some settings for focusing.

True. The big selling point to me is ICS. If the RAZR screen was a bit bigger and had ICS out of the box, I'd jump on it, probably. But it doesn't, so I won't.

The truth is that we're not getting ICS until the Nexus comes out. There might be some better spec'd phone that will be out by then, but it won't have the pure Google experience. If it wasn't for that, I'd have jumped off this crazy train a while ago.

Nah, I doubt it was the RAZR taking those pics. They actually had some color. :p

If you take a picture every three seconds like the current moto offerings allow, the camera will have plenty of time to focus prior to the next shot.

The longer we wait......

  1. The more BS we hear and see.
  2. The less we know why or how Verizon or Samsung do things.

Everyone keeps trying to find rhyme or reason for the moves Verizon makes, but they aren't aware of all the business pressures, contracts, and supply that needs to get coordinated.

In the end, I firmly believe Verizon is doing thier best to release this phone in a manner that suits THEM best.

Before everyone freaks out, customers are part of that equation, but not the only part. It would obviously make every customer very happy if Verizon gave them free phones and free service, but they need to make money to pay employees and provide services to those same customers. Obviously that can't happen.

on my galaxy s camera app i click on the live preview where i want it to focus and it focuses and half the time when i click the take a picture button it refocuses and goes OUT of focus. if it simply removes the auto focus and lets you manually click where you want to focus thats fine by me. in a lot of the demos of people taking pictures i never saw them clicking on the screen where they wanted to focus.

come to think of it. why doesnt it just take a picture when you click on the live preview where you want it to focus right away? that should be an option.

Despite our expectations for release dates not being met, I'm still really psyched that I got to get the OG Droid (pretty much pure experience) and now my second phone will be another pure experience. I got to hop over the locked bootloader, bloat nonsense that so many people hate.

If nothing else, that's pretty satisfying.

I read an article or post a while ago stating that with the improvements coming to with ICS, perhaps it would be better to not use the term 'vanilla' anymore. It really doesn't seem to be plain. :)

What about 'purity', 'natural', 'faultless', 'untampered', 'stainless', 'righteous', etc...
Thoughts or suggestions?

Here are a few more that I snagged when I checked the m-w.com thesaurus.
"chasteness, immaculacy, innocence"

In psychology they call it "delusions of grandeur." Verizon likely neither knows nor cares about this minority subsect of the population. The notion that VZ is toying with any small group is silly, IMO. They very likely have sound business reasons for releasing phones when they release them and I guarantee they don't check in here first for feedback. Just saying.

Good one.

I think Verizon and Samsung are scrambling just as hard as we are.
One example is while drooling over the Bionic I found out about the GN. I promptly "Unsubscribed" from any and all Bionic threads and locked in on the GN like a snapping turtle.

This is how we the consumers are and they fully well know it.
