Anyone else not that impressed with the screen?

I honestly liked my Epic's screen much better. I now get why people used to say that SAMOLED was oversaturated. IMO, this phone's screen is indeed oversaturated. I'd much rather have an original Galaxy S samoled screen back.

Anyone else who came from a Galaxy S feel this way?

Didn't come from the original S but I have had the Captivate and iPhone 4 and the screen on the GS2 blows either one away IMHO. Blacks are black and the colors pop.

Never had an S device before, had a desire. But yeah, I am not at all impressed with the screen. I thought it was just my phone due to the high praises everyone gave the screen, but I guess mine is normal. I do like the colors and what not, but can't stand the pixelation. However, I love pretty much everything else about the phone, so no regrets buying it, even with the GNexus looming overhead.

i came from the captivate and i thought the screen was indeed better, but there is a difference. on the captivate if i used auto brightness the screen was still quite bright even in complete darkness. i believe this screen has a lower setting, well i know this screen has a lower setting. you could try turning off auto brightness manually change it to see if you notice a difference

SAMOLED are different and have slightly over saturated colors. For a phone's screen it is awesome and I like it. I am sure they will improve over time but I have a feeling that this is just the way SAMOLED screens are right now.

I am coming from a much older Nexus One and the screen on the SGS2 completely blows it out of the water. I can agree that the colors can be over saturated, but it is still an absolutely gorgous screen.

Yes, the auto brightness is another thing that worked better on Galaxy S originals. (Vibrant, Captivate, Epic, Fascinate) I switch to a manual setting often, where I very rarely strayed from auto brightness on my Epic.

Love my S2, but I'm not that happy with color over-saturation either. The colors pop alright, but don't ever try to show a real portrait on this phone, skins are reddish and very un-natural. I'd rather take iPhone's muted color over this any day of the week.

Samsung can never get the color saturation right, their monitors are the same. A friend who was tight on budget bought a Samsung monitor for graphic work and ended up returning it because no amount of hardware calibration was able to save it.

Display option is NOT available on stock rom. If you're rooted, try flash UnNamed rom, it has int'l version's display setting added back in. Mine is set on movie, not perfect but better than the default.

I have switched to the SII after a couple years with the iPhone, due to wanting a larger screen. I'm a former digital imaging professional & publisher. I too am extremely dissapointed with the S2 screen and its yellowish/greenish tint, over saturation, and over contrast. I've spoken with Samsung about this problem. A couple days ago, I discovered an app called Screen Adjustor. It has color, brightness, and contrast controls. No saturation control at this time. I have set the contrast at -35, the blue at 20%; and the brightness at 35%. And set the auto startup function. The app is great and now I can enjoy looking at pictures on websites & other sources on the phone. This app is the one thing which has saved this phone for me. Its in the Android market.

As I am new to this forum, I'm not sure how, or if, I can start new threads. I would encourage someone to do so since we really should get the word out on this. For me, this app made the difference between really liking this phone and disliking it. What is particularly striking is looking at a picture of people and skintones on the SII next to the same picture on an iPhone. The SII looks terrible! With proper adjustment on the Screen Adjustor app, that has now changed. I sent an email to the developer- sounds like he may be Eastern European- and he got back to me and seemed genuinely pleased that someone appreciated his work. I told him that as far as I was concerned, his app saved the SII for me. If you get the app and like it, it might be nice to send the guy some good feedback. Try it on the settings I mentioned in my earlier post and see if they work for you. It would be interesting to hear feedback from others on this point; although these are the settings that work best for me. I also suggested to the developer that a saturation setting might be nice in a future update, although with the settings I have already done it really may not be needed. One of the reasons that the SII pictures look oversturated relates to the contrast being too high. Lowering it while raising the brightness, goes a long way to eliminating the over saturated appearance. I am fortunate to have had a great deal of experience with Photoshop so this all makes sense to me.

Wanted to add a clarification on my preferred settings. There are brightness controls in two places on the Screen Adjustor app. One is Screen Brightness, which is in the same menu as the color setting controls, and the other is System Brightness, which is in its own setting window. When I said that I set the brightness at 35%, I was referring to the System Brightness. The Screen Brightness control, in the color menu of the app, I leave at 100%

Yes, you can leave your SII auto settings the same. However, when looking at pictures, online or otherwise, you may want to use a medium setting when the auto is setting it low in dim conditions. A tap on the SII brightness in the homescreen widget will do this. Since the SII has a separate brightness setting in its browser, I usually will disengage that particular auto brightness and set the browser brightness a bit below the center position. That's just my personal preference, however.

The widget I meant was the SII one that has Bluetooth , wifi, brightness, etc. Since each persons perceptions, and phone will vary, 12% sounds fine. I tried to calibrate mine by looking at it next to an iPhone and a desktop monitor while looking at the same online picture. Hopefully, you are finding that with the contrast reduced, the over saturation issue is being largely resolved.

I couldn't be happier with the screen. Screen mode fixed the over saturation of colors.

So far only HBO Go has disappointed me, everything else regarding colors and resolution is good.

Ok. Wow the screen adjuster app with the above configurations made a huge difference.
