I have faith in Steven's source of info saying there was a bump in the battery spec to 1850. Not official by any means, but I'm optimistically assuming 1850. If it's updated in the OP, it must be true, right?
I wouldn't have too much faith in that dudes "leaks", he hasn't really supplied any kind of solid info that hasn't already been leaked elsewhere.
I respect your opinion, opinions by their nature are always valid.
I would respectfully argue with your premise though. As the largest and most followed thread of its kind in the Gnex community, news blogs are following this closely.
Steven's been too humble to admit it, but there have been many days when stories out there were credited to "that good mod Steven58" on lesser blogs, then quickly picked up and cross-referenced by the larger blogs, until finally, you get the inevitable rip off of the last story in that chain, citation removed, and that becoming the new basis.
Graphically, it looks like this:
TheSource -> Steven58 -> A -> B -> C -> (X) -> Y -> Z
where: the letters are all news blogs, where C says they got it from B, B says from A, A says from Steven58 at AF. X credits no one, just plagiarizes C without shame, then Y and Z claim it all started with X.
I've been on record exposing the chicanery of news blogs here at AF for over a year - since the Froyo predictions, that's why I joined. (My initial claim to fame here was as the first to accurately predict the date of Froyo release for the Evo, fwiw.)
Whenever Steven has updated the OP with new source stuff, he has always alerted me in real time via skype just before hitting hitting submit. (OK - almost always, as in since I joined this thread.) Then while he and other mods watch the action, I go off and trace the story thru the blogosphere, just a little hobby we have - plus it keeps Steven's spirits up when he gets called on the carpet, and that's what friends are for.
I'm not claiming that this is the 100% case. Sometimes, The Source simply validates rumors already out there, that's true, but only in small part.
To marginalize Steven or his source is not just - but, that's simply my opinion, based on my claims above.
Dear readers are encouraged to decide for themselves - that's all we're ever about here at AndroidForums.com anyway.
PS - also fwiw, I've wrangled inside sources for Phandroid without having a viral thread, so I know something of the difficulty in validating a source and knowing when and what to trust.
From that experience, I completely endorse Steven's handling of this entire affair as simply
outstanding!
