if you own a Bionic, or are thinking about buying a Bionic (or any other 4G device I suppose) then you should heed this article:

"Starting Tuesday, any customer who has a Verizon 4G smartphone will be eligible to get double the data for the same price. For example, someone who subscribes to the 2GB for $30 plan will receive 4GB instead. For $50 you can get 10GB instead of 5GB, and for $80 you can get 20GB instead of 10GB per month. Existing customers will have to request the change via customer service or through their My Verizon accounts, while new customers can request this when they sign up."

Verizon to double data amounts for 4G smartphones | Android Atlas - CNET Reviews

i just sent this along to a buddy with 2gb plan and droid charge. he should be pumped.

sweet! that ought to be a really good deal for him. I know it would be for me if I wasn't grandfathered into unlimited. I uses between 2 and 3 Gigs a month, so the 2GB plan wouldn't be enough, but the next one up would feel like a waste of money.

I read this on the Motorola Bionic forum.

"For a Limited Time" Verizon is offering free upgrades for folks that had to get the 2 GB, the 5 GB or the 10 GB data plans. The upgrades double the data limit.

2GB ==> 4GB
5GB ==> 10GB
10GB ==> 20GB

This is NOT available for WiFi Hotspots.

You can get the upgrade yourself by going to your MyVerizon account and going to the "I Want To..." section and pick data plans. You'll figure it out.

Cheers,

Tough to double unlimited... Heh.

I was wondering how to do it myself. :D

Actually, if they really wanted to they could accommodate us easily.

(Here come my math skils to work).

So, if you're getting double bandwidth for the same price, isn't that the same as paying half price for the same bandwidth?

So, if you pay $10 for 2 GB you're now paying $5 for 2 GB, right?

And there is your answer - drop all of us who have grandfathered accounts to pay half what we pay now for data.

Who's with me? :D :p

I tried using the online profile to update my data plan to the doubled 4 gb offer, but the site was having issues. So I tried the Verizon Mobile app, and it was a cake walk. Use it, and go to the 'plan' option and then select 'change minutes, text, or data'. It will pretty much walk you through the rest, and also should give you a heading at the top about selecting a 'limited time double data' offer. Good luck, I'm happier with the 4 gb for the 2 gb price now, its mo' better!!!

BTW, I bought my Bionic in sept. on release, so this option should be good for the other existing customers from that same time frame as well.

I like how you think.

So yesterday, before I determined that you could get the promotion on your own without having to call customer service, I sent them an email. Just this morning I get a response saying that I was uneligible for the double data deal because I had purchased my too long ago. Well, obviously, since I had already updated my account by myself, that is just not the case.

So, if you can circumvent Verizon CS and update your data deal on your own via the Verizon Mobile app, then do so.

haha. stupid customer service. I was under the impression that ANY body with a 4G phone that was on a tiered data plan could upgrade during this small window. I didn't think it mattered when you bought your phone.

Hopefully everybody is as lucky as you! I would hate to get someone's hopes up and have VZ shut them down.
