Speed / lags (especially vs Galaxy S2)?

Are you finding the note fast and responsive, or do you notice the occasional lag, eg when loading an app, or when listing all the apps when many are installed, etc?
I have seen very contrasting feedback so far, with some users comparing it to the Galaxy S2, and others saying it's definitively slower and shows the occasional lag, probably because it has to handle so many more pixels than the S2.

What's your experience?

Thanks!

Hi Warren,

how do you compare your note screen with your brother's S2, especially when displaying hi res photos ?
I have an S2 and I'm hesitantig to move for the Note because of the eventual loss of quality given by the pentile matrix screen of the Galaxy Note.

Both look awesome but the note takes it for me hands down. The resolution makes hi res phots puuur and the colours are equally as beautiful. The pentike matrix doesnt make any difference wt all in the short term

I got my Note on Friday and have been using it all weekend. Its beautiful looking, great camera & easier to handle than expected (given its size). Howver there are a number of things that have disappointed me.
  1. It is sluggish when browsing the web on either its built in browser or Opera mini. This is very noticable on a webpage that has a lot of scroll space and images.
  2. Apps that have a lot of scroll space are also sluggish. For example reuters app or even the android market, when trying to scroll fast up/down a long list of items it can get a bit behind your pen or finger movements
  3. Using the stylus could be more fluid. Similar to the above two points, there is a noticable lag when writing at normal speed - I actually have to slow down and Im not a fast writer.
  4. Swiping between the widget screens can become very sluggish if I have been using a few apps for a while.
All these issues must be related as the hardware specs are too good for these kind of interactive response times to be acceptable. Im hoping Ice Cream Sandwich sorts this out because I am quite disappointed I spent the 700 euro at this point. Im half considering sending it back to be honest. :(
Do people think these issues will be sorted with the ICS update?

Sorry to hear this. Quite the opposite as what HTCWozz experienced. Would you two mind sharing what kernel, os version etc you are running? I wonder if it could be down to a slightly different kernel version.

Also, have you tried the Dolphin Browser HD or an alternative launcher (I like go launcher ex and qq launcher), to see if there's any difference?

How about videos? Do you find the playback of HD videos smooth, wither with the stock player or with something like Dice Player?

Thanks

Im running
Android 2.3.5
kernel version : 2.6.35.7-N7000XXKJ4-CL641703 se.infra@SEP-42 #2
Build Number : GINGERBREAD.XXKJ4
Baseband version : N7000XXKJ4

Just tried Dolphin HD browser and it has the same jumpiness/lag as you scroll long pages. Even the settings screens on the phone - if they are long enough to require scrolling - can become quite jumpy. Also, I've only installed 6 or so apps, and yet I cant get the memory usage below 600 even when I force Clear Memory in task Manager - it is always between 700 and 850 until I do. Any suggestions?

Hi there first of all the note is at 529€ to buy from a store. At least I did buy it so, on Saturday, from www.Saturn.De store and online have same price. So 700€ is to much, HD it would worth so much I would buy S2 for 440€.

Second 700-850MN then you lucky the max you can get is 800 the rest is reserved for the OS. I had the same question about the memory because I had 550-650 MN used all the time and after clearing ram from 350-650. Depends of the situation. Installed number of apps 54 phone except stock widget I removed is having the factory widgets tuning and ACE and social hub added as widgets all apps having shortcuts on main windows. So check if an app I use has a memory leak and eats your memory and battery together.

Hope you can solve it if not return it when you got time you never know it is your money you paid for it.

Hi,
I have has two galaxy notes (one broke) and as far as I can tell (coming from an iPhone 4) its very laggy. On both my devices rendering the shortcuts on the home screen, even without widgets can be very slow sometimes and then fast others and consistently slow when unlocking the phone or even just turning the screen on to look at the time. I also find that after clearing the ram and closing all applications the phone can still be very sluggish and choppy even when playing a simple game like temple run. My first note was rooted and I tried several roms to try and improve the speed to no avail and my new note is not rooted and even don't have many applications installed and suffers from the same problems. It also gets very hot whilst trying to play any game or even just in web browsing in my experience and in this aspect I am experiencing a similar choppiness to toefoe was describing. I seriously hope this is all an software problem and will be resolved by the ICS update but if the ICS roms i've tried are anything to go by (and i know there not complete and may have bugs the final release don't) I've bought the wrong phone. I should have waited a month or two and got the HTC one x. Just out of interest is anyone other than me and toefoe experiencing problems like this as all of the reviews and most of the articles i have read seem to suggest these are abnormalities, but from my experience at least its not, but then again I could have been really unlucky and received two defective devices. Any thanks for reading and any response would be great

playing Temple Run on Note is really difficult. I can hardly score a million on note where as when i play on galaxy s2 i score more than 3 million easily. Is it only me who is experiencing this problem.. :( pl help

I have the impression that Temple Run plays so smooth on the Note (at least on mine) that it does not leave much time for the touchscreen to react sometimes. That said, I am a member of the ten million club now, so it seems that my Note is not all that bad. Problem is that I have no basis of comparison since this is my first Android phone (or phone that had Temple Run).

Regards,
Eric Ritchie.
