$179 Nexus One and keeping your old number

Hey guys:
I got some tips for those of you that are a existing Tmo customer and are at the end of contract; and Google wouldn't let you upgrade for $179.

Here's what you do:

First of all, if you are currently on a family plan, you have to call Tmo and have them split the account to individual accounts.

Go to Google site and order the Nexus One selecting the $179 option to add a new line to your existing account . Put in your existing number so they can load up your information and process the order.

Once you receive your Nexus One phone, call Tmo and tell them to put in a cancellation request for your old number, and swap the number with the new one that Google sent you.

Does this work for sure? I just called them yesterday and inquired about doing something similar, but wasn't a family plan was getting from Flex > Post paid. While I'm doing the same thing and she knew and advised what to do as well, she said that the only flaw is I would lose my number doing it as you speak. And honestly that's one of the hold backs I'm experiencing right now, that and whether or not to just pay full price and stay out of contract.

Mmm, no. The line I would be cancelling is out of contract. You wouldn't be cancelling the line you're getting with the phone, but the previous line.

That's exactly the procedure I did, and I get to keep my existing number on the new account.

With in 24hours your old number will kick into the new account. TMO will not denied you, they have a form just for that process, and the rep can help you.

I'm gonna probably end up giving it a try. Like I said, the lady I talked to about doing exactly this was pretty savy on what to do and even gave some advice, but she said the only thing that would suck is I would lose my old number doing it this way. Then again, I didn't ask if there was a way to keep it because how helpful she was being it seemed like she already assumed I would want to with the way she was talking. I'll let ya know if I end up doing it or not and if it works. Kinda liking the idea of a new number though..

you need to make sure you tell the rep on the phone that you do not want to loose your old number, they will take care of it for you.
