Root Removing the 1000 Text Message limit

I'm trying to find out if there's a way to remove the text message limit of 1000 per conversation on the Droid 3 without installing a custom rom. I've been searching, but can't find something that works. I tried freezing the "Text Messaging" app through TB, but after doing that I couldn't receive picture messages.
Has anybody successfully done this?

Edit: I'm using Handcent, which doesn't have a limit. But the stock app is still enforcing the limit and deleting the texts from the database.

I don't mean to be rude either, but frankly, why does that matter? That has nothing to do with the question I asked. I just want to keep all messages from certain people on my phone. I don't want any deleted. My old phone (OG Droid) had the ability to turn off "Delete Old Messages" completely, and I should be able to do the same with this brand new phone.

Sorry man I agree with the other guy. There cannot be any possible reason to store more than 1000 messages per person, and frankly unless u text like less than 10 people, i don't even know if the storage could handle that. Maybe someone else will help you but it is definitely a question that will be hard to find someone that is willing to take time to help you accomplish a goal like that.

The most help i can give you is that i am sure its possible and I would recommend trying to figure it out yourself.

With certain people I text daily, I would like to have more than 1000 as there are often times where I wish I could go back and see something for any multitude of reasons but it's no longer there. I probably have a total of 5000 or so messages and 3000 are compiled into 3 threads. Today is 11/8 @ 5:58PM EST, the one thread's earliest message is from 2:47PM on 11/1. I would like to lift this limit as well.

While I'm not sure of a way to prevent it deleting them, and the question of "why?" aside, I have a suggestion..

You could use SMS Backup to back them up to gmail so you have an archive of it all (it'll even do it automatically, and it doesn't eat your data!)

Not the best, but its the best I can do (and the best method i know of so far)

Root uninstall the Blur Text Messaging app
Download and edit the AOSP text messaging app so it has no limit
Compile
Install

Sorry, but that's just not the way things work.
Companies like Motorola like to give their users something good (like the features you are looking for), then take it away when they need to upgrade. This lack of features then persuades the user to spend more money to buy some new piece of technology that will come out a mere months later, in hopes of having the missing features.

Thanks, but I already have SMS Backup & Restore, and also Handcent's backup service. But it is not what I'm looking for.

And if I remove the Blur Text Messaging app, I won't be able to receive picture messages. I tested it by freezing the app first, and I couldn't receive them.

Head over to XDA and grab Maverick ROM. I just downloaded it and flashed it with CWM. It allows you to bypass and override the 1000 limit.

The 1000 word limit is 1 'feature' that I find immensely frustrating as well. on my previous phone I was able to keep all 375,000 messages and even store them on my sd so as not to take up too much internal room. I think it is very rude of everyone who said that our desire for this is useless and irrelevant. We were only asking for solution not commentary and I'm still be unsatisfied with the solutions given

I believe that if you freeze the stock SMS app, then install AOSP Messaging, you should be able to set the limit higher or even remove a limit entirely. Be careful of this though, as it can become a huge PITA to delete 10k+ messages if it ever gets there (Happened to a friend of mine, it kept crashing the phone and they never erased). I'm rooted and ROM'd and have mine capped at 2500 SMS + 50 MMS per thread.

For those of you that do not want to install a custom rom, I delieve that handcent has an option in setting to make it the default text messaging app, allowing you to set the limit in handcent and ignore the stock app settings. I believe that you still have to leave the stock app on your phone for dependency reasons though.
