If this isn't what you were looking for you will need to be more specific. What are you looking at that is asking you to flash a .zip?
Assuming you have your phone rooted and have either ClockworkMOD recovery or SPR Recovery installed.
The first step is always have a nandroid backup.
I WOULD NOT FLASH ANYTHING WITHOUT A FUNCTIONAL BACKUP.
ClockworkMOD Recovery
1. Place zip file somewhere on SD Card. I use the root directory.
2. Boot your phone into recovery by holding down "X" while powering the phone on.
3. Choose Install .zip from SD Card.
4. Browse to file using the directional pad and select it.
5. Choose Yes.
6. Use the Power button to go back to the main menu and select reboot.
I am not sure about SPR because I havent used it but I would assume the steps are similar
If you are and have ClockworkMOD Recovery. you can follow the directions I have place above after making sure you have a backup. If not I can point you in the right direction but you will have some reading to do.
V: True but I am sure he would not be the first person.
boy I sure hope so.. he does say "When I boot to recovery" and he is in the root forum and all the keyboard threads make it clear you have to be rooted to apply this - so I think he is. If Recovery is not seeing the update.zip I think it might be a naming of file issue which many people do accidentally.
But like I said above, he should be able to install it via the "install zip from SD card" option. If he still cannot navigate to it and find it and install it via that, then the OP is making some other error as that method does not care what the name of the zip file is so should see it.
I assume you have ROM Manager installed? Go into ROM manager and select at the bottom Flash Alternate Recovery, once that is done, go back and at the top select Flash ClockworkMod Recovery and reinstall it (should be 2.5.0.1 version when done), once that is done select Reboot Into Recovery....
This is what clockworkmod Recovery screen looks like and you can see the options
Just rename the file to update.zip on the root of your SD Card and then select "apply sdcard:update.zip". This should work as long as you are rooted. The stock recovery will only recognize the file if its named update.zip.
