***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Guys, I'm having a strange feeling about maybe settling for the RAZR. Anyone else feel the same?

Not saying that I'm going to do it. I'm not. It's just a very strange, strange feeling.

I'd rather go for the rezound. The thing that makes a handset part of the next generation is an HD screen. qHD has been around for quite a while and still looks not much better than a 480x800 screen. The iphone 4 screen despite its size was much better than anything else out at the time. So even though the RAZR is nice, I still consider it part of the current generation of smartphones. I consider the Rezound as a half step up, and the Nexus the first truly next gen smartphone.

.....I was so close to caving in a buying it but then I saw the app drawer on the RAZR and how filled it was with a bunch of CRAP. For instance, they STILL have the freaking Blockbuster app?! I don't even know any blockbusters are me still in business!

I was thinking the same thing until Husker ruined it by posting this:

RAZR allows you to hide and/or uninstall some/many of the bloatware apps, including Blockbuster:

No, seriously, there are 3 main reasons I'm tempted:

1. Much as I love this forum and you guys, it's eating up a lot of my mental energy. "Get a life" or "stop posting so much" aren't viable solutions. My job consists mainly of reading and researching, which takes only a few minutes of printing out tons of paper, sorting them into appropriate areas, and putting them away. No one actually reads it and no one actually cares. (This isn't my "real" job, but 3 clerks quit at the same time in August, and there is a hiring freeze right now so it falls to us to do a lot of their work which, in reality, isn't really work.) I do have some court cases to work on, but let's face it, the government isn't the fastest hare in the race. There's lots of waiting for things to happen.

Regardless, it's really eating up a lot of my energy obsessing over this stupid phone. Checking the Phandroid site on my phone while we're watching the X Factor or walking the dogs isn't healthy. I need it to end.

2. The lack of HD screen on the RAZR really bothered me at first, but then I started thinking "Do I really watch many movies on my phone?" The answer is no. And even if I did, on a screen less than 5 inches, will it really make that much of a difference? I'm not sure.

3. I just want something new. I'm sick of my OG Droid and I want that feeling of unboxing a new little treasure. I hate Verizon for making me wait until they feel it's more convenient for them. I get that they aren't obligated to me, it's business, etc. etc. etc., but that doesn't make me hate them any less.

So here I sit, waiting. I just don't know how much more I can take of this. I really had a feeling that 11/10 would bring something.

But this day is much like the others. Except that I'm slowly building up to a snapping point.

^------- THIS. Except i am much more worried about caving in to the ReZound than i am the Razr.

Agree. My buddy has a Photon and the pentile structure is a distraction when I use it. I'm honestly spoiled by the screen on my OG Droid. Based on what I've read so far, I'm counting on the HD rez effectively hiding that, but the color accuracy hasen't really been addressed yet. The pronounced teal cast in the whites of most AMOLEDs bothers me.

I'm pretty much commited to the SGN for several reasons, but they just barely outweigh the concerns I have about the display. I remeber how I was dead-set on a Nexus One until the digitizer problems surfaced...hopefully this Nexus won't suffer a similar fate for me.

I think most of us feel the same way about building to a snapping point. I may bust all of you when you say you're thinking about the razr or rezound (that hurt to type the real name) but you have to do what's best for you. The way I see it - if your work isn't truly being compromised and your wife/girlfriend/boyfriend/husband/fwb/what-have-you is understanding that this will end soon then I think the wait is worth it. If you are neglecting work to the point that you are endangering your job (or income base for those who are self employed) or your family is truly worried about you then maybe getting one of the other phones IS best for you.
Personally - I'm waiting this puppy out. I will happily cheer on those who are only wavering because we have no news but we ( I think I can speak for all here) won't hate you if you decide that it's best for you to have another phone.

Dang, I really thought today was the day we would hear something (phone depression setting in)

Why did anyone think that they would hear anything today? Have you noticed that you can't turn on a computer or TV without seeing a RAZR ad? Today and tomorrow are RAZR days. That is Verizon's preferred phone... period.

Monday is Rezound day.

Tuesday/Wedneday/Thursday we will hear something about the Nexus. Hopefully about sales beginning on 11/17 or 11/21.

This had to be expected... everything to happen in the right order and at it's right time.

Yeah I can understand your dilemma. I have a thunderbolt, and I like it, so I really don't have a desire to change it for something unless its a gamechanger. But those of you who are nursing old, less than functional phones need something, and the RAZR and Rezound look like very nice phones as well. But you gotta ask yourself when April, May, June rolls around and you still don't have ICS, was it worth it to not wait that one more week?

sorry, didn't mean to tinkle in your cheerios... :D

i'm with you on the HD screen issue. sure, it would be nice to have the biggest and brightest and bestest screen around, but it's not essential for my uses. if i'm gonna watch a movie or tv show, i'm going to get a tablet. (in fact, i was pretty set on getting the Xoom 2, but then the ASUS Transformer Prime shows up and i'm stuck straddling yet another fence - but that's a whole other topic...)

i can also totally relate to the itch to get something new. but, having been around these forums for the last couple of years with my OG, and watching how quickly new and better devices come out, i'm forcing myself to be deliberate in my choice to make sure i get what i want for the next 20 months...

I understand the feeling Han. All of the points you made above were relevant for me as well. What further compounded the issue is that there are aspects of the RAZR that I legitimately like more than the Nexus. It's ridiculously thin, lightweight and smokin' fast. It has an SD card slot so no tethering to the cloud. The Moto build quality is legendary and I suspect that the rumor that it will get ICS in the first quarter of next year is true, especially after the Google purchase is complete. The Source and Panda have both said the battery life was better...You can go on and on, but no need to do that. Both will be excellent phones. You don't have to apologize (at least not to me!).....................

The thought has crossed my mind. I've also toyed with the idea of staying with AT&T and getting the new SGSII Skyrocket.

Right now I'm just waiting to see what happens with the GNex launch.

I would agree if the SGN screen were not pentile. Don't hate... I can tell a difference. RAZR screen looks terrible to me. The only thing that makes the SGN's PenTile a possibility for me is the HD res.

Nope, I agree. Pentile looks like crap. The only thing I'm basing my opinion on is that phonearena showed close up shots of the RAZR, Rezound, and SGN screen along with the iphone 4's. The RAZR's screen looked like crap with small text. The others looked equivalent, so I'm hoping that the SGN's resolution stops the pentile problem.

For me it has little to do with watching movies, it's all about how text looks whether it's in the browser or a kindle app. I like being able to read small text on my screen, which pentile doesn't let me do easily.

I actually watch movies on my DINC almost nightly while I'm trying to go to sleep. It has been a great cure for my insomnia...I get so tired trying to see that screen on my night stand that I snooze off within 20 minutes.

Moderation is the key....everything in moderation. ;)

I completely agree. Moderation is very important. :D

I'm holding of until I get both of them in my hands. They will both be awesome phones.

That is how I feel about it too. The Nexus will be amazing and Ice Cream Sandwich is going to be the biggest thing about it, for me anyway. The one thing I worry about is the size. If it is too big to fit into my hand comfortably then I won't be able to use it. The Razr is also going to be a really nice phone too. In many ways it will be very different from the Nexus. Once the two are available and the reviews roll in I'll pick one.
