I was in my local store a little while ago to see about possibly upgrading early because my Droid charge is manure... I was asking questions about the Razr, which was in display and is a might fine looking device, I then asked about the gnex and she didn't even know who was making the phone or anything else about it..?

I guess vzw employees are not phone nerds like us??

I went to my local VZW store and asked when the Galaxy Eris would be released and they said anyday now.......lol

Baahahaha! Very nice!

I know I make up the majority of VZ employees by saying: we know just as much as you. And some even less b/c they aren't phone/Android enthusiasts.

In all honesty it's kinda discouraged to come out on a public forum as an employee but I do my best to not get into the "my carrier/phone/OS is better than yours".

I'm an Android enthusiast above all else and maintain a respect for most of what makes up this wireless industry.

Better than me going to my AT&T store,(4 weeks ago) when I was first pondering Android phones.... I was looking at some random 4.5" phone just to get an idea of how big they were. I started talking about the Gnex and he said "oh were getting those soon" I loled at him, I loved his enthusiasm, but I felt like he was just trying to say what I wanted to hear.... We all know its bound to come to AT&T eventually, but the guy in the store said it so matter of fact.

Just like me asking a sprint employee about the iPhone two years ago "soon" was here response.

I work for the company that delivers to the VZW stores...and trust me most of them are completely clueless. MOST of them..not all. 3 weeks ago I was just trying to strike up a conversation about the Vigor/Rezound. The response I got was "Huh?" from a manager.

Now..the Nexus however..at least they know what it is..but as for a release date? They have no clue.

The RAZR however I can tell you it is in the stores right now..I delivered quite a few boxes of them monday so that's a done deal pretty much.

If you want to keep in touch with what is going on with the latest phones, updates, and whatever else you want to know about a droid...then keep checking this site..it's choice IMHO.

If there selling you a 600 dollar phone, they may not need to be an expert, but they should be informed. I go to my verizion store cause they know what there talking about./ I've been to other VZW stores and there frigging clueless. Well I wont go back. Plane and simple, customer service. Remember, I'm the one with the dollars. If I wanted to be BSed, I'd go to Best Buy.......
The Eris thing was a joke.. I went to my VZW store the night after the unveiling in Japan, and low and behold, the store manger had watched the YouTube presentation and could carry on an intelligent conversation. Thats where I will buy my phone. Saves me gas driving around, talking to idiots. How hard is it to spend a little time reading and learning about the product you are trying to sell. They could learn a shitload in an hour a night....

Gravy - they most likely knew about the Galaxy Nexus. Cell phone sales reps constantly lie about these kinds of things (so that they can pay their rent and feed themselves).

Verizon employees are paid by commission so if they tell you the Galaxy Nexus is coming out - they don't get the extra $$$ because you aren't going to buy anything and then they can't put food on the table.

So never ever go into a Verizon store expecting to be properly educated. The employees are there to make a living not to find you the best phone for your needs or to tell you a beast phone is coming out in a month.

Last time I checked out a phone at Verizon I told the lady that maybe I'll come back and buy a phone. She gave me her card and said to make sure she buys it from her so she gets commission (which isn't a bad thing, but I'm proving that they are desperate).

It's just business. Education is best done on forums like this :)

that should be geek, not nerd, and by looking at your profile pic, you sir are no geek:D

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I'll be waiting in line at midnight tonight for Skyrim... Geek/nerd/dork, You tell me what that makes me :D

There is a LARGE amount of secretism surrounding this phone. For instance, there are at least two in my building and both are not allowed to be shared - at all! To make a comparison, the Bionic was openly used and shared several weeks before it was released with anyone who would ask about it. You just had to know who was testing it.

As an employee I know we aren't supposed to disclose anything to open forums (and I have my face plastered all over this site), I really hope I'm not crossing any lines. Truth be told know just about as much as you all do.

I'd take the PIC down ;)

i also work for vzw, but as an indirect rep. We have a new guy thou knows nothing about smartphones and we are doing our best to teach him everything we know about these great devices. I try my best to give my unbiased opinion to everyone that walks in about other phones. Reps that spew misinformation at the end of the day will not make any sales or if so well have a lot of returns.

No sales person knows as much as the enthusiasts waiting to buy something. 90% of them are clueless and only work there because they can sell things to other clueless people. As soon they run into someone that actually knows something their true colors come out.

Car salesmen know the bare minimum about the cars their selling.
Example: I wanted a car in a certain color and the sales men swore up and down that they didn't make it in that color. So I decided to walk out of the dealership and find one that knew the cars they were selling. Before I could get to the door the manager comes over and he said the SAME THING. I went down the road to another dealership and got my car ordered in the color I wanted without any fuss.

Cell phone salesmen know the bare minimum about the phone their selling.

I don't understand why so many reps are clueless. Not all of them, but in my opinion most of the ones I've met are. If you are going to make a commission, don't you think you should try at least?

I sold vacuum cleaners for Electrolux for a time while going to law school. Did I own one? Nope. Did I care about vacuum cleaners? Not at all. But I studied up on them and practiced demonstrating them over and over with my family and friends, and I sold a ton.

In my experience, Apple reps are usually very knowledgeable about their products, and they don't even earn a commission!

Just don't get it.
