anyone know where i can get a memory card for nexus one?

could someone link me up to a good site, looking for an 8GB card for my nexus one.

don't know much about memory and i'm afraid i'll buy something that's incompatible.

a UK site would be preferable because I'm in Scotland.

You'll be fine as long as you get a micro SD card.

Pay attention to the class rating though -> higher number represents higher data throughput, e.g. class 6 means a min. of 6 MB/sec write speed. With that being said, even a class 2 is probably plenty fast for the N1 (the micro SD card that come with the Nexus one is a class 2 card and I haven't noticed any speed issues yet).

Yes it will, the memory cards are Micro SDHC cards, the only thing to look out for is the write speed of the card as some of the slower ones may impact on performance of your device.

i just ordered 2 different 16GB micro SD (both class 6) from newegg. about $59 ea.

that paired w/ the elago micro reader - pretty nice and flexible setup.

i use some smaller micro SD cards at work - bootable disc setup, work files, etc.

you might look at the bundle on amazon - 8gb, w/ reader was $26 usd.

looking at amazon uk - you guys pay a lot more for them (micro SD cards). The elago reader doesn't look like uk site even has it. Not sure if there would be a savings by buying from amazon's US site and shipping... obviously take a while longer.

I read somewhere else that Class 2 and up are fine for the Nexus One as the phone cannot utilize any faster read/write speeds than that anyway.

It may be that paying for a Class 6 (which I did prior to reading this) may be a waste of money.

i got one off this guy... and was super pleased... i did a very non-scientific test and it was quite fast... 5-6MB sec... which goes along with some rumors that Sandisk Class 2 cards are as fast as some Class 4 and 6 cards...

I read that too. But i figure if i need to move even close to 10-15GB of data (thinking movies), i'll just pull the card, pop it in a reader (i'm really digging/liking the nano one i got) and off to the races! I have 2 of the nano readers (a whopping $5 ea), and 2 of the 16GB cards. I'll be using them for work files when not in the phone, but also can setup data on one and then swap it in for quick turnaround.


To compare, the class 6 i ordered will do:
Sequential Read : 16.85 MB/s
Sequential Write : 9.267 MB/s
Random Read 512KB : 16.62 MB/s
Random Write 512KB : 1.832 MB/s

For $5-$10 more i'll take the fastest i can get. I'm still using some of my older 2 and 4GB micro SD's from old phones as work drives - i'm glad i got the faster ones then.

it's a constant speed - in phone or out. Admittedly it's not likely to be a bottleneck in the phone. But really, most class 2's aren't that much less than the 6's i've found. If it were a BIG difference, then i'd save some $, or go bigger like you said.

16GB is the largest i've been able to find Micro SDHC's. Anyone seen the 32GB's yet? They are coming, but going to be $$$!

As for syncing and sleeping. It doesn't seem to work that way for me. Inevitably i want to transfer some large file, or set of files (movie or big group of mp3's), just before i need to run out the door. (to work or to mtg).

So in those cases - i'm stuck w/ the fastest it will go. With the faster media i can pull it - put it in a reader, and transfer FAST. in the phone it will be slower... I should have them soon and will do some rough tests (not doing the exact x.xxMBps testing) to compare.

Remember, the class rating is a minimum, not a maximum. My Polaroid one by PNY gets the same speeds as well.
