***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Wow... I'm impressed. Welcome! :D

Edit: Here's the deal, guys
. Our Source said they weren't going to be pushing the Nexus as hard as the Razr or the ReZound. Don't be surpised. I'm sure VZW wants as many folks as possible to be these other phones. That's why they're keeping the release date back. If you have to buy them, buy them. If you can hold out for the Nexus, you do well.

Would it be more accurate to quote you as meaning "Thats why they're keeping the release date 'under wraps'?

My understanding of a "soft release" would be more along the lines of emailing the folks who signed up for information a couple days out from the phone being on shelves. There may or may not be signage in the stores to gather attention but I seriously doubt they would just put a phone on the shelves and not pay any attention to it. If they put it on the floor they WANT to sell it.

So my theory is that we're still looking at one of two things:

1) A web only launch with no in store promotion. Just emails to those who signed up, and a banner on the website.

2) An in store launch on the 21st with minimal ads in the lead up.

I'm still hoping the 17th is not out of the question but it really looks like thats a slim possibility. The only way I see it panning out is with scenario 1 from above.

Of course we could all be way off and it actually does launch on or after black friday in some way shape or form.

I think it's pretty obvious that if the SGN launches web-only, it's not going to stay that way forever. If they're going to carry accessories in the store, then they'll eventually have the phone in-store as well. Web-only shoppers will buy their accessories online as well, so it'd be pointless to carry them in the hopes that they'd come into the store just for accessories.

My guess is that we'll have web-only start between the 17th and the 21st, and in-store on 12/1.

Edit: And VZW knew they wouldn't be getting to put anything but minimal bloatware on their phone. Anything that goes on there would be what they consider the bare minimum to support the phone on their network(e.g. backup assistant). Their content delivery crap won't be there, and they would HAVE to know that early on. This isn't some last minute change that caught them unaware. If anything, the timing of these three top-tier phones completion dates may have caught them unaware, but not the bloatware issue.

I hate to say it but no one has the clout Apple does, and its not because of their product quality. Its because they know how to advertise. Advertising gets the 'uninformed' to buy your product and that's where the biggest market is.

advertising definitely plays a big role in getting consumers to buy their product, but apple's clout with other companies actually has nothing to do with advertising. rather, apple knows how to manage their business much better than our multi-OEM android ecosystem can.

in a nut shell, cash is king. apple's got cash (abt $80bln) they can throw around to get exclusive pricing and sign on suppliers to maintain inventory. basically, they've got very smart people making the right decisions and a very unified strategy from top to bottom.

That makes a lot more sense than a Web-only release.

I don't disagree, but how did Apple get to an $80B company? Advertising. That's why they have the clout they do now.

I've heard countless times "o did you see the new Apple ______, i really want it!" and I always ask the same question. Why? And they always have the same answer "uhhhhhh......." Its because of advertising that Apple is able to sell products to people who don't know why they want them. That is where their clout comes from.

I agree with most of that. Just seems odd that in-store would be getting accessories 3 weeks before receiving the phone. Unless, the thought was that people would get the phone online and the accessories in the store. That seems like an odd concept, too.

Initially, everyone wanted the iphone because is was revolutionary for it's time, new, exciting, and cool. Now, everyone wants an iphone because (they perceive that) everyone else has an iphone. Thus the sheep mentality.

Not all stores have received them yet either though. Some probably wont see them til around Tues or Weds. The phone will land in stores; we're not disputing that, but it may be closer to the 21st. God I hope for the 17th. This MotoDroid is driving me absolutely crazy.

IgnatiusXIX I see you're running Cyanogen 7.1 on your OG have you had issues with it completely missing texts at all?

It makes no sense for Verizon stores to already have received accessories, if the phone will not be available in store, in the next week or two. I am leaning toward the 21st at this point, but am hoping for the 17th or 18th. Who knows - maybe Verizon is going to be doing Friday (Razr) and Monday (Rezound) releases now.

I'm running a different Gingerbread ROM on my OG and have had sporadic missing texts and sporadic instances where the vibrate refuses to shut off after answering a phone call.

From what I've seen, both are problems with all GB ROMs on the OG.

had that problem multiple times with 7.1... ended up going back to froyo. with such limited memory on our poor lil OGs there's only so much it can handle. even with using v6 supercharger and all sorts of build.prop edits i had more problems than not. other folks don't seem to have the issue tho.

after going back to stock altogether, i've been pretty impressed with the overall performance of my OG, actually... until it went for a swim. hangin on by a thread.

as much as i love the work CM, peter, and others do... i'm looking fwd to the nexus days and avoiding custom ROMs. i caught the itch of upgrading to froyo before vzw got their act together... and i was consumed with updating to fix issues i never had to begin with.

I have never been this excited for a phone in my life. I feel like a kid again waiting for my Atari 2600 (yes, I dated myself). My wife is starting to think I have a problem. She asks, "are you on that forum again?" I, of course, shake my head yes, and she just shakes her head at me like I have some kind of problem.

I thought that was the case but wasn't 100% sure. I myself went to back to stock rooted I just can't stand the homescreen redraw lag. Thats why the Nexus can't come soon enough for me. :D

Yup. Sure have. Both outgoing and incoming. I've had all sorts of problems. Do you want to read all of them? hahaha

I know the text thing isn't just relegated to CM though. I have a co-worker on stock that is having the same issues, and another rooted with a different rom and the same issues. These phones are just getting old. In my case, I've extracted every ounce of productivity out of the thing. I've pushed it to produce daily ever since I got it. I'm happy its made it this far.... "just a few more weeks" is what I whisper to it each night haha.

She's just starting to think that? I don't mean just you in particular, I know a lot of us have said our families are the same way. But like someone said a couple pages back - we are our own group therapy. Lol.

We all have a "problem". This is a support group, not a forum ;)

I still have my opriginal system in the attic. I broke it out to show my nephews a while back, and they couldn't believe someone would actually play those games. Ha!

I had an issue with missing texts, but I heard about an option in Settings > CyanogenMod settings > Performance called "Lock messaging app in memory." I have yet to miss a text(that I know of) since I turned that option on. Before that I was missing about 1 out of every 5 messages. There's also an option to lock the homescreen in memory, which helps alleviate homescreen redraw.

Now my main issue is random reboots, about 2-3 a day. It started happening after the upgrade from 7.0.3 to 7.1, not after locking messaging or the homescreen in memory.
