What would you do if u had a nexus today? Would you theme it..over clock it..wifitether it...what?

Me: @P3Droid If I had a #nexus today I would check the weather in hell to see if it froze over

Funny that you ask that... I just put everything that I want to immediately install in dropbox.com folders (wallpapers, apps, audiobooks, videos, ebooks, ringtones, music, etc...). All that I need is the darn phone and I'm all set. I'm going to be out of town from the 21st to the 26th. If sales begin on 11/21, I'm having the phone next-dayed to where I'm going to be. Now, I don't need a computer to transfer all of my stuff over. Thank you dropbox.com :)

Just a reminder about advertising, Verizon and the Nexus. I have heard and read multiple times that Google and Samsung have full control over Nexus marketing. I'm not sure if that means that Verizon is not allowed to advertise it or it just means that Google wants to have a say in the when how and why of it. This may be one of the major factors in Verizon not doing what they have done with other phones. That said, I have not seen a commercial for any of the more recent phones other than those for the Razr. We know Verizon is really pushing this, just like they did the Bionic. In the end though, I think Google plans to have a marketing campaign similar to Apple's, if they do anything at all. I think the phone will be advertised as a Google phone first and noted as being on Verizon second, just like Apple does with the iPhone.

My 2 cents anyway.

I have never been this excited for a phone in my life. I feel like a kid again waiting for my Atari 2600 (yes, I dated myself). My wife is starting to think I have a problem. She asks, "are you on that forum again?" I, of course, shake my head yes, and she just shakes her head at me like I have some kind of problem.

LOL You should try being a MOD here when your SO has the same views. ;)

EDIT: 410 pages and 20,403 posts to go before the 17th.

Well I went to Verizon today. I was feeling left out, not having inspected the Razr for myself. It's a nice enough phone. Felt ok in the hand, not very warm at all.
I spotted a rep that has chatted with me for over two years and thought I'd give it my best shot to get any Nexus tidbit to share with my Android family. My approach was to ask about a tablet one of my family members was interested in. She was aware of it but didn't know if Big Red would be getting it at all. Then I eased into the Nexus by totally butchering the name.
She was totally aware of the SGN. In fact she was excited about it and preceeded to give me a lot of info on it..including that its 32g and Verizon didn't take the SGII because they wanted a phone that the other carriers wouldn't have. (Her info..not me) I asked her if she had one I could see. Here's the rest from Sam (not her real name)
Sam: I don't have them yet.
Me: Oh, so I would have to wait a long time? This upgrade I have is eating a hole in my pocket.
Sam: No I'm guessing it will be here this Friday. Or it might be the following Monday. We already have the accessories and we get training this week. We usually have the phones 3 or 4 days after that.
Me: Wow! so this phone you've got me totally geeked about could be in this Friday?
Sam: They don't tell us the exact day phones drop anymore. Most reps have a big mouth and would be telling everybody. We'll be told the day before or the day of the release. I'm sure I'll have the demo in here this week. I'll call you. Come by, we'll take it for a ride!
Me: That would be cool. Now would I order this phone online?
Sam: Not this one, we'll have stock in store.
Me: Oh wait...I'm leaving town on the 22nd for Thanksgiving. I guess I'll have to wait until I get back.
Sam: Tuesday the 22nd? I would hope you'd have your phone by then. If something changes, I'll just preordeer it for you since it will be in the warehouse. You'l have it to play with a few days before its released.
Me: Out of curiosity, how's Razr sales so far. That's a pretty slick phone.
Sam: Soft...wait for the Nexus.

That's all I could get. I know when to back away and be cool. I could see the manager looking at us and didn't want to get her in trouble. If she is excited now, wait until she goes through training!

I hope you all can get something in the conversation to help you hold out another week or two. I'm convinced this phone is all its promised to be.

That's all you could get? ha! That's fanTASTIC! Give this guy a cigar, folks!

We have gone over and over the fact that VZW reps don't know anything more than we know about the SGN at this point.

Trying to milk them for information is like milking ourselves because they are getting the information from us (most likely).

Normally, I would agree with you. However, I posted this conversation because this particular "rep" is well connected and has always been spot on with her information. If you find nothing useful, don't use it. Keep it friendly out there, folks.

Does unlocking the bootloader and rooting the device, wipe everything that you installed/setup? In other words, should you root your device before installing anything or setting anything up?

The MoDaCo instructions are vague. Only for the GSM model? Better link/instructions/download somewhere else?

Thanks in advance!

Rooting does NOTHING to your phone except give you access to the phone's "forbidden" system files. It alters nothing, in and of itself. :)

P3 announced a "one click" method for the Verizon model he has today.
Typically rooting doesn't wipe the phone though.

From MoDaCo: "Note: If you are using a retail Galaxy Nexus, you may need to unlock the bootloader first, using './fastboot-windows oem unlock' (or the appropriate version for your machine). Note that the OEM unlock sequence wipes your device."

News to me! Rooting sure has changed since the OG Droid! Well, no reason for me to root anyway, unless something really, really bothers me...

That was awesome. Big thanks.

Is this just for wifi tether? Or does this include USBtethering too? I see PDAnet and EasyTether are still on the Market, and I would think would work with any phone...

If you got the market for the first app, you get "This item is not available on your carrier"

Classic ban mode, no idea if SGN will be any different than on my OG.

I don't really care about rooting right out of the box. However, if rooting will require a wipe, then it would be advantageous to do it before installing/setting anything up. Any thoughts?

Unlocking may require the wipe. Rooting requires the unlock. Or so it seems.
