Hello,

This may sound like a stupid question and i have read about ODIN but i just keep confusing myself so i was wondering if someone could help me out.

Im currently on O2 and recently received my SGS2, i don't like Kies and was to use something else and understand ODIN is the way to go.

Where do i find the actual firmward to flash to my phone? i did have a link for somewhere on XDA Developers forum but have lost that and TBH it did confuse me a bit with regards to which one to actually download.

Thanks in advance for any help...

here u go. u can get the latest firmware from there. if u want carrier branded firmware, u want another thread.. but i dont think u will :D

Thanks... so for a UK firmware i assume i am looking at XWKJ3
?? will my phone still do OTA updates or not as i am not using a branded firmware?

And am i correct in thinking that this will not root my phone?

Will flashing with an unbranded firmware cause the phone to boot with the yellow triange? or is it rooting which causes that, also how do you get rid of the yellow triangle if it is the firmware whichcauses the issue?

yup, KJ3 should be fine. im not sure about OTA updates. u definitely cant use kies for updates..im gonna guess u wont get OTA updates. but either way, it wont matter if ur using odin.. u can get the latest firmware and flash it way before u receive OTA updates

ur right, this is just a firmware update, u wont root ur phone. rooting causes the yellow triangle on boot, so u have no worries there

Hello, i'm on O2 , running Android GB 2.3.3, but I want to update it to 2.3.5. Which one do I download? I cannot find my phone/baseband? which is 2.3.5, I can see my own firmware there though but that's on 2.3.3?

from the link in my first post, u can download XWKJ3, which is the latest 2.3.5 firmware.

i dont understand ur question about ur baseband etc

3 more questions and thats me ready to flash the firmware

1. Difference between KJ2 & KJ3?? assume it's just minor tweaks?
2. Im going to back up anyway but i assume all APP data, App, Photos etc remain on the device?
3. If i was to send off for repair under warranty what would i need to do? flash the original firmware, anything else? should i make a note of the firmware now or ios there a way to find that out if i ever need to claim?
