***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Not open for further replies.

If you look at the homesceen of ICS, there is a google search bar at the top. You cannot remove it. That is the cause of the outrage.

I don't mind it at all. For one, it still looks good. Two, I use google search frequently. Three, search is their primary income. They do development on the OS for free, all they ask for is that we use their search. Small price to pay.

They're referring to this part of P3's review:

Thanks for the quick replies. I don't see it in any of his screencaps, but it would be a big blunder to gripe about it if he didn't verify the claim in his hands on.

My hope is that he obviously has a pre release device hardware and software wise so this could change.

hey guys, i probably will want to get a second battery for my gnex and i wanted to ask you guys what would be the easiest / cheapest way to do that.

-Does verizon sell spare batteries for their devices?
-Is it cheaper to get them online?
-can you get a larger battery and put it in the gnex, or is that bad for the phone?

a response would be much appreciated, thanks.

I don't think you'll know a good answer for that until it's released. Don't buy from ebay though because there are alot of fraudulent batteries on there that output wrong voltages, have exaggerated mAh ratings, etc.. You could damage your device at worst or end up wasting money on an inferior battery, or at best get the real thing at a savings of $2 or $3. Order from Samsung or your carrier.

A larger battery (with extended capacity), will most likely not fit in the OEM case. Someone will probably release an extended battery with a new back for the phone to fit it though.

Yeah I'd go with what svt_ said and get one directly through Sammy. WIll cost more yeah, but worth the piece of mind at this juncture in the pre-release

I'm with you on this. I'm always doing Google searches on my phone, so I look at this as a good thing. Now, I might change my mind once I start using the phone, but for now, I like it.

Guys, just got a text from that corporate store rep I was telling you about yesterday or the day before.

I had asked him to please let me know the moment he knows a date, so that he could reserve me one and the commission would be his.

I got a text back from him this morning saying:

Can you wait one more week?

I texted back:

Are you saying it's coming in a week?

He texted back:

That's what it looks like. No firm date yet, but a clue is that they are telling store staff to finish up training by end of the week.

I texted back:

Awesome! Please let me know if you get a date! Thanks!

I texted my sister asking her about it, but I haven't received anything yet.

P3 actually had two pre release devices. One 16GB and one 32GB. Search on the thread. He posted (on another forum) many pictures and videos of the devices.

I think Verizon does it because.......
I believe Google is doing that because ..........
A Soft Launch is........

I laugh and Scoff at you all.
We know absolutely NOTHING about why Google, Verizon, Samsung do any of this stuff. Nothing Brew Ha! Haaaa! Nothing!

We know absolutely nothing about when it will be released.
We know absolutely nothing about any of it but for the fact the phone is real.

We have no idea why they release one phone before or over the other or when or how often. Nothing!

Heh! Get over it and Wait folks.

Until the CEO stands before a press conference and announces why or how they do things we know NADA! And then I would want a polygraph strapped on the man/woman.

Heh! :D

FYI:
I've researched and found the corporate names and contact info. Maybe a few of you could contact some of them and ask for more information. I have written to Mari Walden, Vice President and Chief Marketing officer. Here is what I wrote her:

Ms. Walden,
I'm writing to you to find out when you intend to announce and release the Galaxy Nexus. As I'm an sure you are aware, this device is generating a lot of excitement among your client base. While the average Joe may not know it's coming, those of us in the technology sector are EXTREMELY excited about it. I am well aware of the Droid Razr by Motorola and HTC Rezound, however, as a customer I am truly excited about being part of the true Google Experience that a Nexus device brings. Please take a quick look a just ONE thread regarding this phone:

http://androidforums.com/samsung-ga...7-release-date-per-our-vzw-source-11-9-a.html

There are more than 26,800 posts about this phone and over a half of million hits speculating about it. I know that marketing this phone in it's proper time is important, but a little bit of information will go a long way.

Sincerely,
xxxx xxxxx
Customer since 2000

Here is the page where you can find all Executive Leadership:

Executive Leadership Team

Be polite and see if that gets us anywhere.

I've written to several of the names listed on that website. I received a response from Kari. I did not write to anyone named Kari. Likely an assistant given the task of following up with me. I wrote to Ken Dixon, Daniel S Meade, Joan T. Bowyer, and John Bianchi. I gave her my account info and will update you with anything she comes back with. I'm not holding my breath but it's worth a try. Did anyone else hear write to them or hear back?

Dear Mr. xxxxx,

Thank you for your correspondence to Verizon Wireless. Please provide
your Mobile Telephone Number or Account Number so that a member of our
staff may assist you.

Also, please provide your best contact number. Thank you.

Regards,

Kari

If you look at the homesceen of ICS, there is a google search bar at the top. . . . . They do development on the OS for free, all they ask for is that we use their search. Small price to pay.

Unfortunately, that's how bloatware starts. If they are advertising a completely open OS, then it should be that. I don't want anything forced on me. I'd much rather have it be an available widget that I can choose to use or not use. It does bum me out, but I hope rooting it and disabling it will do the trick.

. . . Is it possible Verizon would allow their staff to finish training by the day after release? (in response to han's latest lead)

I think it's possible. Many of the store reps I've talked to in the past hadn't seemed to have done any of their required training on the phones I've looked at. :p

Also, it seems like it's a general directive. Didn't say "finish it by the 18th". Just more of a "expect a lot of traffic this weekend for it, so be ready."

But I wouldn't be surprised if it releases on Monday, giving the um, HTC device one whole week to breathe a little.

It's an integrated phone search. It's not bloatware. It's no different from hitting the search button now - it's so that you can search apps/content/web/anything. It's not like they're shoehorning their web search onto the phone.

Also, it's a launcher. That's part of the point of Android - you can choose your own launcher. If you don't like that launcher, with the integrated phone search, then install another one.

Still doesn't sit well with me. A button is a little less intrusive than "GOOGLE" screaming at you from the screen. I like everything else about the launcher, that's just a sticking point. But I don't think choosing another launcher will be necessary; I'll just root it and will probably be able to disable it or freeze it.
