I plan on buying a 32 GB Micro SD card to use with my transformer and I have done a little reasearch into classes, makes etc but I'm still unsure what to buy. I plan on storing some music, films, photo's etc and wondered what cards others are using and would recommend.

All comments gratefully received:)

pretty sure anything which is class 4 and above will suffice. since our AEPT's cant handle 1080p too well, the should be anything on our SD cards that requires the level of read and write speeds of class 8 or above. my AEPT wont exactly be a music hub all on it's own.....but the 1TB external hard drive certainly makes it more usable as storage space!

a little info from my experience.
i got the Kingston 32Gb from Amazon for $39

While it works fine, and its a class 4...(yeah i know) it can give you some headaches. What i mean is that you need to do the Long format on it with Windows. Then insert it on an Android device and format the whole things agian. I used my EVO to format it afterwards.

Why???
because apparently windows formats the card a weird way that causes some issues with Android OS. i explain. I spent 2 nights converting DVDs and or movies into a playable format for the ATF. I would copy the video over, and the tablet wouldnt play it. I uninstalled many apps, downloaded codecs, i almost even spent $11 on a converting software thinking i was doing something wrong. Until i came across a website that had samples of movies converted like i did. It played them fine. So i downloaded one of those videos directly thru my ATF. it worked perfectly. Now if i downloaded it via my laptop and copy it over to my MSD card, it wouldnt play.

So i did a test. I downloaded the file from the laptop and pasted it into a USB drive and my external HDD. I copied the video from either source via the ATF file manager and it played fine. so now i have plenty of videos, pictures and MP3s on my 32Gb card and works fine, i just had to copy them over using the ATF and not a laptop

So there are two things. Windows file system writes files on a weird way that android doesnt like. The cards dont like to be formated by windows only.... reason i say its because my SanDisk 16Gb doesnt experience such issues my 32gb card does.

Does Android automatically format empty cards when inserted into the device? I can't remember ever formatting a card in my Android devices. (Something I think I'd remember doing as I religiously format the cards for my cameras in camera between uses.) I do format them on my W7 laptop though. So far, not a single issue.

Currently, I'm using a Sandisk 32GB class 4. I was hoping to grab a Lexar 32GB class 10 but they were out of stock so I went with the other brand I trust. I have read that the way class 10's work is best suited for shooting video and photos at a high rate though and not necessarily all that necessary for what you would need on a tablet/phone. No idea how much of that is true though. I will trust a Sandisk or Lexar to work to at least the listed specs on a bad day.

I've eyeballed the PNY cards at Best Buy but didn't like the language they chose to use on the back of the retail packaging. It is very unlike what other companies I use will say. (Go ahead and look at it versus what you will see on packaging from Sandisk or Lexar.)

Ive never had to format and android does not auto-format. The cards come fat32, android has no problem with fat 32.

Also, with respect to class numbers. Unless you specifically care about the write speed you are wasting your money buying class 4-6-10 versus a Class 2. Its only the sustained write speed. I have a Class 2 Samsung that usually writes about 2.5-3 but reads considerably faster than my friends Adata class 6.

Read speed typically seems to be pretty consistent across all classes and the biggest factor seems to be the quality of the card so it you are really itching to spend $50+ on a card spend it on quality instead of a class.

This is really the only place you need it. Shooting bursts of considerably higher res and density pictures or video than the TF is capable of. I have a 12mp Nikon shooter that can shoot 17 frames at 7 fps of 4mb pictures and push them onto a class 6 card, that is well beyond the capabilities of any tablet or phone.

Hi, I got transformer yesterday. 16Gb WiFi model. I plan on installing microSD too. How do I use it then? Is there anything I need to change in settings in OS and apps?

Buy it, if it has any pre-installed crap on it do a quick format in windows (i have never had an android device care that it was formatted in windows, this is 6 different devices) and plug it in. The TF will mount it and you are good to go.

The only advice I'd give is that I found it bizarrely difficult to get the card in. You have to use a fingernail to force it in - or out - of the slot.

Oh, alright, two pieces of advice. If you look at the Transformer's file structure, you'll see sdcard. Great, you'll think - that's my sd card. Oh no, it's not. It's the internal storage. To get to your micro SD card, you'll have to go to Removable, and then MicroSD.

I to have a few SD cards, I have a 16GB SanDisk Class 4 that came with my old X10 and it works great in my TF, I have no issues watching HD movies off it, Takes awhile to transfer files but it does the job but I only use it occasionally as my new card I picked up is a 32GB Lexar Class 10 which is overkill but it is handy for other gadgets I have to. I saw on a few sites that using the keyboard dock and the SDXC cards that you can use the 64GB with no issue and any larger sizes they bring out down the road.

I've said it before elsewhere and I will say it again here, buy a recognized name brand only and don't buy off eBay! With memory cards you very definitely get what you pay for. You might get lucky with a cheap card now and then but it has been my experience more often than not you spend more money replacing cards than you would spend getting a quality card in the first place.

That said I would recommend Lexar, Kingston, Sandisk, Samsung and maybe even Transcend as they seem to have improved a lot over the past few years (they were garbage when they came out). I generally stick to 6 or 10, but many people find 4 fine for tablet use.

Just wanted to know I without a doubt getting the most amazing Tablet in the World the Asus Prime and I know they say expandable 32g mirco sd but I know that Sandisk has just come out with their insane 64g micro sd. Just wanted to know if it would work. I really dont understand why it would not more memory should not be a problem since its on the Card it self. Just figured they state 32gs because the 64g really just came out not too long ago and is still not that herd of.

Sandisk 32GB all the way.

BTW, get ready for a BIT of headache with the TF with regards to the MicroSD card.

Not ALL apps will allow you to "browse" a level up from /SDCARD/ (which is required to get to /Removable/MicroSD). Some apps that "scan for files" will ignore it.

Also, video playback (at least on my TF101) has more to do with the APP than the memory. There are a lot of video players out there and they ALL claim to be "the best on Android". I've spend dozens of hours testing and benchmarking with HQ MKV files and MX Video Player is the best thing going right now on TF101.

Update I found out yesturday that Sandisk saying that their SDXC cards wont work on phones and tablets that dont have XC slots is complete bullshit. They tested it and proved it on Xda of course. All of you have to do is put in the sd card than go to storage it will say the card is broken just format it in fat32 and your good to go which is just badass. It seems that this all in effort to of course push for newer phones that have the XC slots. But from a business stand point its a very stupid move. Looks like tje reasoning behind this is Sandisks loyalty and contracts with the phone manufactures comes first instead of thier loyal customers.
