(mod note - this is a temp root thread and perm root is now available - please see the Rezound: All Things Root sticky thread at the top of this forum)

Hello Everybody!

I wanted to create a root guide for the Rezound, similar to the one I put together for the HTC Droid Incredible.

The Guide currently includes:
1. How to root
2. A list of apps can be safely frozen by Titanium Backup without causing stability issues.

At this point rooting the HTC Rezound is very straight forward, but temporary. As things progress I'll be updating the Rezound Root Guide with the latest information on rooting, going S-Off, removing bloatware, custom ROMs, boot animations, and everything else. If you're familiar with my Incredible guide you'll know I like to keep everything clear, organized, and all in one place.

The HTC Rezound Root Guide

Enjoy!

Appreciate the thread. We need perm root asap for this phone. I'm sure that will come, but most phones have root method from a dev usually before they even hit the stores to be sold to customers. A bit bummed we don't even have a real working root yet, let alone s-off/bl unlock. Damn VZ for locking their stuff up so hard. This phone is easily unlocked everywhere BUT for VZ customers....

I feel fairly confident that it will be rooted with s-off eventually, and hopefully soon. I get the impression that the dev community is very interested in this phone.

I was able to get most of my apps from my Thunderbolt by rooting and using TB. I wish my Wireless Tether would still work though. Keeps saying that it's an invalid Kernel.

Check out my Rezound guide (top of page, or in sig) there is a link to a WT apk that is known to work on the Rezound. It was modified by ROM maker NilsP.

I too am very interested in finding a root. I just had to replace my Incredible with the Rezound after the 2.3.4 update seemed to destroy the phone. I need root to restore my applications. Anyone have any thoughts so i can get titanium backup running, at least to restore my apps and stuff?

is it worth doing the temporary root to restore the apps?

From what I've heard, others have used TiBu to restore apps via the temp root. So, you should be able to do it.

I rooted the Rezound, and brought over all apps via Titanium Backup. It worked. I wish it would've worked for my Wireless Tether. It claims that the Rezound doesn't have the right Kernels for that app. Everything else worked like a charm. Hell even the temporary root via the script file was easy as hell. I rooted the Thunderbolt via ADB and clicking the one script and letting it do all the work for you on the Rezound was great.

Excuse my ignorance, but what if I want to return the Rezound after rooting? . . . . If I get the Rezound, root it and restore all of my apps, I may decide I just can't live with the battery life. If I plan to return the phone, will a factory reset remove traces of "rooting" etc.?
I have all of my apps and data backed up via TB and MyBackupPro . . . is there no way to restore the apps w/data, without rooting?

Right now the root is temporary, so rebooting the phone makes it unrooted. So, no need to worry about unrooting if you need to return it.

As far as I know, Titanium Backup needs root in order to fully backup application data. If you want to restore all of your data (like application settings, etc) you need root.
