Wildfire S vs Optimus V, and black friday

hey im currently on the rumor touch and it sucks big time. i need to get a android phone. depending on how much money i have i really want the triumph but its a little expensive and im only 16, anyways im split between the htc and OV. they both have the same Mhz processors which i would plan on OCing to about 800 or the highest i (safely) can. i like the htc sense theme that the wildfire has and how it has the led flash which would come in handy plus a better camera. tethering would come in handy (ik you arent supposed to but i wouldnt be using it too heavily, just with my ipt occasionaly). i know you can with the V but idk about the S. you probably could by rooting right? also whichever phone goes on sale black friday i would probalby be inclined to get becasue it would be super cheap like how i got my rumor touch for $70 (80 cheaper than normal) at best buy. any clues on which phone would go on sale? and the slider looks like the same thing as the V just with a crappy qwerty right?

Dunno about the tethering but frankly, the HTC seems unimpressive to me. I'd go with the O-V (which I think is one sale at BB).

somewhat annoyed that my batt has died in 3.5m of light usage... i.e. no longer charges.

Sabresfan,
Get the V. Regardless of phone stats for any of them, the V is much more reliable and has less problems. It's without a doubt a kick-ass little phone even without rooting and installing a custom rom. However, if you do root and install a custom rom (BACKside IHO rocks), the V just screams.

Cutterjohn,
One thing I've noticed is that where the battery is concerned, its not the battery or the phone itself that's to blame for poor battery life. It's the rom that these mobile carriers are installing. They're crap.

Here's a perfect example. My boyfriend and I can unplug our phones at the same time, both 100% battery (mine the OpV and his the HTC Droid Eris from Verizon). Both of us using 3G, Sync, and GPS with Life360 updating our location every 15 minutes). Within 8 hours his phone is dead and mine's at 87%. Of course, he got the last laugh driving through Montana and South Dakota while I had no service at all and he had 4 bars.

:p

I am also debating on getting rid of my V. It's a really good phone but it KILLS me not have a notifcation light, also having a better camera updated OS and better sceen but yet still smaller then the V makes it worth it to me. Also the HTC will be going on sale for $99 on black friday another deal breaker.

It does seem ridic that there's no notification light. I'm used to it now though and I set gosms to repeat it's notification sounds. Problem (mostly) solved. I can't remember-does the HTC have more internal memory than the V? That could turn the tide for me, although just barely.

This is only my personal view, so take it with a grain of salt. ;)

Over the last 3 weeks, I've had a chance to play with my boyfriends HTC (through Verizon), and while I'm jealous of his connectivity with 3G while we've been traveling from state to state, I can honestly say I can't stand the Sense UI. It's an acquired taste I suppose. I tried installing Launcher Pro on it, but then it didn't give you access to the cool Sense Weather gadget (or any of the other Sense gadgets). I was like, dude yer phone sucks. And he says, yeah, but I'm connected to 3G. Touche'!

Srsly guise?! This thread has some pretty bad advice and wrong facts.

The HTC S is much better than the V. While they are both awesome and do have maaany similarities, HTC S excels in several specs.

HTC Advantages:
- Android 2.3 Gingerbread vs 2.2 Froyo on LG (2.3 has waaay more features + more optimized and faster)
- CPU: same core speed as LG but it's ARM 11, meaning it can ****ing play FLASH unlike all Optimus V devices (and make a lot more apps available on the market due to this)
- Waaaay more internal memory: ~512mb Not true anymore. Seems like all Wildfire S on VM have even crappier internal memory.
- HTC LED notification light (trust me it
helps a lot, used to own a Droid)
- Far superior camera (5.0mpixel WITH FLASH compared the 3.2mpixel on the V)
- Gorilla Glass! pretty much un-scractchable by common methods (again based on experience Droid)
- Slightly longer battery life (according to the VMobile specs site)
- HTC phones in general seem to be in better preference with the modding community.
- MIUI (a gorgeous and my favorite ROM, which will look even better on the white colors of the HTC) will most likey be available for it soon (they seem to love HTC products, unlike the LG, grrr there is no MIUI on the Optimus V)
- Light Sensor (for appropriate dimming to save battery) vs no senor on the LG V.
- Gesture control vs no gesture control on the LG V. (flip to shut off alarm or ringtone, etc)
- Radio Stereo FM.
- Wireless b/g/n vs just b/g on the V.

LG V Advantages:
- Thinner.
- No lame Sense UI (although that's subjective, I personally really like Sense UI, plus on the HTC it's easily removable if you don't want it)
- Feels more solid, possibly due to superior build quality. LG is awesome that way. (but then again HTC has awesome build quality as well based on experience from older Android phones.)
- Solid push buttons vs capacitvie keys on HTC S (personally I like the feel of pushing buttons better on the LG but most people prefer the capacitive keys.)
- More easily accessible microSD slot, unlike the HTC S where you have to remove the battery cover.

All specs taken from: HTC Wildfire S - Full phone specifications

In conclusion, HTC and LG both make for awesome low-end phones, but I recommend the HTC S. However it is a bit overpriced for the advantages you get. If the HTC S goes on sale for BF, definitely get it.

~ LG Optimus V owner and love it. Soon to be HTC S (possibly Triumph) owner.

Get a triumph both those phones are kaka
Stunning argument.

- Waaaay more internal memory: ~512mb compared to the shitty ~140mb of optimus V (I keep running out of damn internal memory!!!)
Someone on the forum has stated their Wildfire had 106 megs available out of the box. That 512 is used by the phone as well, it isn't all available to the user.

There is flash available on the OV if that is your thing. But Adobe has stopped supporting mobile devices so this is a moot point.

Also, like bigvandal said, they're both 'kaka' compared to the Triumph...so if it goes on sale as well, I recommend getting that over both.

I haven't heard anything good about the Triumph. Do you own the HTC or the Triumph? You didn't mention if you did.

target will have optimus v for $50, and radioshack will have htc wildfire s for $99 on black friday. My 17 year old son isn't a techie at all, and would prefer an iphone. He's getting the htc in the hope that its faster (2.3) and sense will be nicer for him. I liked my v way better than the intercept, but I love my triumph just as much over the v. Btw, wildfire is supposed to be harder to root.

True and true. Edited my post to reflect this. Sorry for the misinformation. My major gripe about the V came from its lack of support for flash. Many apps I liked (such as Netflix) were not available for it for a long time.

Doesn't the HTC have wireless N and the LG V does not?

Yes.

No answer from OP, what a shock.

Spare me the attitude and read the last sentence of my previous post.

It doesn't take a genius to understand that the Triumph is superior to both the LG and HTC in regards to specs. Of course it has its downsides such as the horrible battery life, but if the Triumph went on sale during BF I would recommend getting it. Nevertheless, no point in going on about it since this threat is not even about the Triumph.

I have Flash on my OpV, and it's not all that. It's a cell phone. When I wanna watch a movie, I pop in a blu-ray into the Oppo and watch it on the big screen TV. For gaming.. I built my own gaming rig. Cell phones are meant for communication. Anything else is an added benefit and completely not necessary. :)

The LG is more stable than the Triumph, and the reviews between the Triumph and the OpV speak volumes. Doesn't take a genius to comprehend those numbers. ;)
