Edit: I was just about to try taking the battery out, when it changed from a blinking amber to a solid amber. I hope it's charging now!

I hadn't been able to charge my EVO for a little while, and just a little while ago it finally gave up the ghost. I booted back up to recovery after it shut down, where it told me I needed to change the battery.

Well, that's great! Except, it wouldn't let me shut the phone off! It sat there for a few minutes, not responding to my trying to turn the phone off, until, it seems, it completely ran out of power. I have the seidio 3500mah battery, and the cover is a royal pain to remove (usually requiring a butter knife to pry the sucker out of it's death grip!).

Now when I got back to my desk at work, I plugged it in to USB, and the charging light is just blinking amber at me, and it won't turn on yet. Does this sound like it's not charging, or just needs to charge itself up a bit before it will let me turn it back on?

Mine just did that this morning. I could have sworn it was charging while I slept last night, and it had 100 percent battery at 4:30 this morning when I took it off the charger. I played 20 minutes of games, and had no radios on. No calls, no texts, no nothing, and my battery was dead by 10:30. I just got home and plugged it in and the light was blinking right off the bat. After about 10 minutes it turned solid, and I just turned it on, and it seems to be working fine now. I think the blinking light is just the signal from the phone saying it doesn't have enough battery to turn on the phone, so charge it for a minute first.

Fixed my EVO blinking amber/orange light by changing the charging cable; I saw this suggestion on another post. My Evo would not turn on or charge whether plugged into my computer via USB or into a wall outlet. After plugging in with an extra charging cable I had, the amber/orange light blinked a few times and then became solid. At this point my Evo was able to be powered on.

also remember that the usb port on a computer will charge it slower than when connected to an outlet
