Okay, okay, So I'm a noob...

Yes, I bricked my phone with CWM. Tried to partition my SD card and create a swap file, went to restart and never turned back on.

I accept that what I did was dumb, when all I had to do was read the entire thread about partitioning.

Alas! I'm going to have my prevail RMA'd. Has anyone else ever done this through Samsung with a bricked phone ? If so, what was the outcome ? New phone ? Or just had to replace it ?

If I do happen to get a new prevail, I will wait until there is a stable root for GB before rooting and trying out a2d.

If I have to replace this phone then I'm just going to pay the extra 50 and get the Warp. Any input ?

(I have yet to try odin, but what's the point if the phone wont turn on...)

Your new Newbie,

Rob.

(I'd also like to thank Shabby for the great root. Very simple for noobs.)

The point of odin is if the phone wont turn on, but you can still get into download mode, you are most likely safe.

Nope, no download mode. Nothing, black screen, I'm sending it to Samsung tonight through UPS ground. (free shipping provided by Samsung) They said that almost all phones will be returned in working order. If the warranty is still in effect then they'll just replace the phone if they cannot fix it. I will keep you guys updated on this.

I'll give you a little insight on what the samsung return process is probably like, having worked in that type of return center before.

Your phone will be unboxed at the return center, logged into the repair/return system, and placed in a queue.

A service technician will eventually get your phone from the queue. He/She will take it to his work area and plug it into a "service" cable (read: USB cable connected to his test PC). They will then try to turn the phone on. When that doesn't work, they will try to put it in download mode. when that doesn't work, they will disassemble the the phone enough to access the JTAG port. They will then connect a JTAG programmer, and flash in the current service center bootloader (it may or may not be the latest). THey will then attempt to power the phone on again. If it boots, they box it up and ship it back. If it bootloops, or hangs, they will Odin in the current service center image (again, may or may not be the latest, but it will match the bootloader), then verify that it boots to the lock screen and then ship it back.

They will likely not look into any settings or apps or mods you may have installed. The service tech probably doesn't care. They don't have the time to dig into why your phone ended up like it did, they just need to get it done and shipped back and move on to the next phone in the queue so they can make their daily repair quota.

Sounds good to me, will they let it update to GB ? or will I have to do that ? If I have too, that's fine. So they will install the Jtag for me ? and make my phone un-brickable ? That's sweet if that's the case.

Well, two days left on the shipping from Kentucky to Texas. Hopefully I will have the phone back in my hands in working order by this time next week.

They may or may not put GB on it. most likely they will, but sometimes stuff is slower to update internally than what goes to customers.

They wont install JTAG, they will use their JTAG device to flash in the bootloader. The bootloader is what what brings up either the normal system, the recovery image, or enters Download mode, depending on what buttons you press.

They can sometimes flash a phone entirely through the JTAG interface, sometimes just a particular chip. It depends on how the hardware engineers laid things out. I'm not familiar with what can and can't be flashed through JTAG on this phone
