Holy Smokes.......

Everyone should just relax and settle down. The December 8th release date has been in place for at least 4 weeks now so sending letters and stomping your feet on twitter and FB isn't going to change a darn thing.

You guys are looking at the earliest a December 8th release. Yes that's right it could go OVER a few days.

It's a phone. Move on with your lives. It's coming in a few weeks. You've wasted hours and hours of your life on this thread and will never get that time back. Go out and live life and you will see that in the grand scheme of things this is meaningless. Go out and have fun for crying out loud. It will give you a whole new perspective on what is important in life and I can assure you a phone is not even on that list.

Get outta here and live!!!!!!!! :)

LOL, you're really quick to come back in here and pound your fist and declare victory about a release date that hadn't been seen or mentioned until yesterday.

Oh yeah. I was thinking of the Windsock's tweet. Sorry.

CK, I don't think now's the best time. :p

Besides, it's gray and freezing in Chicago, and my wife's pulling a double shift today. Nothing else to do.

But on the topic of the 8th, I highly, highly doubt it's been "in place for about 4 weeks now". According to every other source, dates have been changing constantly. Your Apple developers, sorry to say, aren't "in the know". Every date from Oct. 27 through mid-December has been "confirmed" by one source or another.
Go to the mall, read a book, go to the book store, work-out, play a video game, watch a movie, make some lunch, go get some lunch, write a love letter to your wife, call your wife and tell her how much you appreciate her then go out and get her a small gift. Tons of things to do :)

The Apple guys called it Hans. Their date never changed.

I can see you now; siting at your pc in day old clothes, full beard, bloodshot eyes, hair in disarray, tie slung around your collar pounding away at your keys typing draft letters to Verizon lol.

Not worth it brother. I promise you

Now get outta here and relax :)

It may be.

If it were for marketing reasons, similarly they are holding back a date to prevent the phone from hurting sales of other handsets (which I don't believe, BTW).

I am with you on this. Verizon doesn't care if you have a Galaxy Nexus, a Razr, a Rezound, Iphone, Thunderbolt or any other smart phone. They do nothing but lose money on the sale of any phone no matter which it is. (And most likely judging from independent retailers pricing they still lose money if you buy it at "MSRP" as well)

All they care about is that you have a contract, data package, and as many other features as they can enable on your account.

If you want a Galaxy Nexus, trust me they want you to have a Galaxy Nexus.

I do not buy conspiracy theory junk. "They want to sell more Razrs". Yes they invested money into advertising the Razr, but to them, Razr or GN, it doesn't matter, its all just publicity to get you inside the store.

The "righteous outrage" is fairly amusing considering all Verizon has done at this point is confirm that they will have the phone. They don't "owe" anyone a date, or anything else. If you've been a Verizon customer in the past you already KNOW this is how it works. It's ready when its ready and not a second before. You may or may not get a pre-order, but when you do get an official date, it WILL be on sale ON that date. They are extremely secretive on smart phones and have been for years, its not new, why does anyone suddenly expect some open flowing fount of information to just pour forth from Verizon?

I want the phone as much as anyone. Am I bothered by the fact that I can't have my new shiny toy to play with yet? A little. Is it Verizon's "conspiracy" to make me unhappy? Absolutely not.

We were already there - yesterday. Somebody was parked in front of a Verizon store when a Fed Ex truck pulled up. A few minuteds later a UPS truck pulled up.

You needed to be part of the DINC thread. People would sit by their windows getting excited if they heard a vehicle that sounded like a UPS truck. They also would follow truck on their route if they were in their neighborhood thinking they may of not been home and missed their DINC delivery. Others went to the local UPS warehouse attmepting to get their phone prior to loading on the truck.

It was epic.

Yeah but there is a BIG difference from your retail management position to what the executives of a major corporation do.

I see your rebuttal and say only this: My CEO and his executives are the creators of the vision I live each day. This is why we are the most respected, charitable and consciousness coffee company in the world. Transparency starts at the top in my company.

Respectfully,

jmar

Back on topic: come on Verizon, take a page out of my company's book and give us something!

I read a handful of posts of people saying that they can't wait any longer so they're getting a RAZR or Rezound.

Stay strong everyone! This is exactly what Verizon wants us to do... don't give in to your frustrations just yet. Galaxy Nexus will definitely come by mid-December at latest. If you REALLY can't wait that long, best bet is to switch to AT&T or T-Mobile and get the GSM model; that way, it'll show Verizon that they're losing customers. Of course, many of us can't do that for various reasons, so like I said... DON'T GIVE IN.

Galaxy Nexus is what we want and it's what we'll get!
Stay positive :D

My problem is I'm not so sure that I don't like the specs of the rezound better... yes, ICS is huge, but the rezound will get it too. And as for HTC's Sense 3.5, I could just root and run a stock ICS once it become available.. (Am I wrong here?)

Strip away imediate ICS, and supposed quicker updates, and I think the Rezound wins. I'm going to wait until monday. if nothing changes big time with an announcment of some kind, I'll have a Rezound Tuesday morning.:D

And no one can prove to me that buying a razr or rezound "is exactly what Verizon wants." I owne a droid X with bloatware and never use it. They are not making extra money off me for it being there. they only care that you sign a 2 yr. that's all.

while i do believe that VZ makes most of their money off of contracts/monthly bills, there is still a very good reason for them to want to sell more razr's than gnex's. MORE MONEY. the razr carries bloat, which VZ is paid to include. they won't be getting that money from the gnex. secondly, they have dumped a ton of money into razr commercials and the droid brand as a whole. contracts being equal on each phone, i guarantee you that they would rather every single customer walk out of the store with a razr over a gnex.

Of course it's not a conspiracy, it's just that Verizon has done stupid things in the past, so any statement or lack of statement makes users wary of their true intentions. If they're having software issues with the bloatware, then they should just tweet "we're having software issues with the bloatware". There's no need to be secretive about it, particularly if what you say is true about them not caring about the Razr/Rezound.

Owe us anything? No, but they could do a lot to redeem themselves by having a successful launch and being upfront with their customers.

ICS is a momentary perk. Not a reason to buy the phone. In a month all the notable superphones will be running it. Heck, I've been running Gingerbread on a two year old Droid for months.

I want the Nexus experience and hardware, regardless of the software version that ships on it.

Wait too long and the hardware advantage shifts leaving only the Nexus experience to pull me in...not enough, frankly. Get a move on, Verizon.

Well, my break from here didn't last too long, lol. I figure since I'll probably be on here tomorrow night/early Monday morning looking for some sort of preorder/release, may as well chime in here for a hot minute

Looking back on it, I think all parties involved botched the release. In a perfect world, what should have happened is that Google, Samsung, and Verizon should have all been in the room, a contract written with explicit terms, agreed upon, signed, and then stuck to.

Google/Samsung should have never held the announcement/press conference of the GNex/ICS so soon if the phone wasn't going to be out until late November/early December. As of today, it is only released in ONE store in ONE city in ONE country. That was a big flub on Google/Samsung's part. The press buzz for this phone, at least in the mainstream, is all but dead. I remember CNN/Fox/MSNBC having articles up online the day after the announcement. If they could have committed to releasing the phone in most markets by a week or two after the announcement, they could have potentially rode the press train and transfered over to the gravy train.

Verizon should have given a firm release date to Google and then stuck to it. None of this "wishy washy" stuff of "by the end of the year". They should stop playing market strategy games...how hard is it to let consumers chose what they want? Just release all 3 damn phones in time for the BF rush/holiday shopping season. Display all 3 while displaying the iPhone, give free activation deals/data promos, and promote your amazing network. The HTC phone has an amazing screen and great music capabilities. The RAZR is thin and light with amazing battery life and can stream crap from your PC with Motocast. The Nexus is the first phone with Android 4.0 and offers Face Unlock/Android Beam. There, I just did a better job than your 110k marketing vps.

But, the most important thing that we can remember is this....after all of this debacle, do we want the Nexus even less? Is it somehow less of a capable phone? As far as I'm concerned, this doesn't change the hardware itself, or the physical network it is running on, at all. I think 90 percent of the anger and disappointment in this thread is hearing a "rumored, but source confirmed" release date, and then getting upset when it passes. As much as I think Verizon *should* have given us a proper date and stuck to it, they told us the end of the year in the press statement. While scouting out forums and sites that have inside Verizon sources is fun and exciting, we should have all mentally prepared ourselves to see this phone on 12/31. Again, in a perfect world, it *should* have been handled differently, but for whatever reason, be it software bugs or "marketing strategy" or anything else, it is the way it is.

Can we possibly see a release/preorder Monday and be happy again? Absolutely. Could we see a December 8th, or 12th, or later date? Absolutely. Bottom line is, we are *still* getting the best Android phone ever released on (location permitting) the best network in America. I'll be happy whenever I get it, just have to be patient. :D

With that being said, I'm going to go out shopping for next Thursday's dinner. I will see you all tomorrow night!

In re: 16 gig vs. 32 gig.

The reason P3 (and CZ and PP and others) have (or will have) 16 gig models is they have bought engineering models from their Sammy contact (who again used to work for Moto) that they have known for years.

The word from the Sammy dude is the engineering models are 16 gig, the VZW production models will have 32 gig. Or to quote:

"Wrongengineering units are 16Gb, VZW will only have 32Gb version from what I'm told as of this am. & P3 posted it has USB mass"

And again, any speculation on locked bootloaders or bloatware simply do not know what the "Nexus" name means when it is on an Android phone. It means an unlock(able) bootloader developer phone with a pure Google experience, just like the Motorola A855.

The Nexus page for Verizon (the 1850 battery) now shows only 16GB. No more 32GB.

I dont see the big problem with writing a letter. If you are unhappy with a company for whatever reason I think it is completely legitimate to write the a letter as long as it is respectful. Not everyone is going to agree what a reasonable complaint is, but if enough people have the same complaint then maybe they will listen or at least change their practice in the future. If it makes you feel better that at least you did something then go for it.
of course we are in the minority of users, but by that logic you shouldnt vote if you support a minority viewpoint.
I agree they do not "owe" you anything. but we have seen things like TV shows brought back from cancellation because companies recognize the value of a small devoted group of consumers.
look at bootloaders- companies are starting to sell unlocked phones even though a minority of people know what that is. it is because they recognize the value in the developer and phone enthusiast community and realize this does have an effect to the wider consumer base
just my thought.

I just got off the phone with my friend from Verizon. Even though I normally don't bother him with questions (he hates discussing work) I actually did this time. Now, I am paraphrasing big time here, but this is more or less what he was telling me.

On the subject of 32GB he told me that this is the only version he has ever known about. There was never a discussion about a 16GB option in any meeting he ever attended. He reminded me that that doesn't mean there isn't one, but that all references made to the specs of the device he has talked about or was talked to about had 32GB of memory on board.

On the subject of bloatware and delays he told me that the My Back Up Assistant app is planned to be Verizon's version of iCloud. The latest is supposed to support document and picture backup and not just contacts. He also mentioned future plans of being able to back up almost everything. While he didn't say that he specifically knew of any delays due to software he said that Verizon is determined to have this app on every phone they sell, including future versions of the iPhone. He also stated that he was not aware of any delays at the moment, but did say that there are plenty of stores/employees that have not had any sort of training on the device yet.

No release date info beyond the typical, don't worry it is coming soon that I usually hear.

So that is what I have for you guys today. :D
