***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I call bull**** on the whole "Verizon is still testing for bugs" argument. Vodafone is testing for bugs, yes, because they officially communicated that. However, if you follow Black_Man_X on Twitter, you'll know he said this morning (in a tweet to everyone) that Verizon is NOT holding the phone back due to bugs, continued testing, etc. The phone is finalized. It's ready. It has been. Verizon is doing this out of PURE GREED. They want to push more Rezounds and RAZR's.

Sadly, it isn't going to work out that well for them, but they will push this thing back as far as they can to squeeze every dime they can out of the RAZR/Rezound. My partner is a great salesman for VZW corporate and tells me that he has several customers per day coming into the store asking for the Galaxy Nexus, and he has to tell them it's not released yet. 99% of them walk out the door, empty-handed, indicating they'll come back later for the GNex. He's tried selling RAZRs and Rezounds to them, but no one wants them (except the uneducated customers who just want whatever the so-called latest/greatest is). He said sales of RAZRs and Rezounds are bleak and, quite frankly, sad. He said they're doing worse than the Bionic, which didn't do that well, either.

I think Verizon has invested too much money into the RAZR and Rezound to cannibalize their sales with the Galaxy Nexus. Verizon knows that especially for our crowd, but also for the general public crowd, that there's no reason to buy either RAZR or Rezound when the Galaxy Nexus is out, and since Verizon pays manufacturers for a set amount of phones ahead of time and CANNOT return them to the vendor if they don't sell, they want to burn through as many as they can so they don't lose $ on this whole deal with Moto/HTC before they push the new Samsung phone.

It's that simple. It's all down to $, and Verizon does have something to lose, even if sales of the GNex are incredible. Say they were to release the Galaxy Nexus on Monday - they would likely have a decent launch, but it would mean mostly GNex sales and very few RAZR/Rezound sales. That's good on the surface, because any sale is a good sale, however, all the RAZR/Rezounds VZW paid for will continue to just sit in their warehouse, and Verizon will essentially never get anything on their investment into those phones. If they wait on selling the Galaxy Nexus, they may sell fewer of that phone, but if they have't committed to too many already, they can still sell the amount they have committed to to Samsung, while in the short-term (before the GNex launch) push as many RAZR/Rezounds onto customers as possible to burn through as many of those phones as they can. The end goal, then, is to have as few RAZR/Rezounds in their warehouses unsold as possible. They can do this by delaying the Galaxy Nexus for a little longer. People will become desperate; people who have no patience; people who are impulsive. These people will buy the RAZR or Rezound.

This is a day-by-day thing. Verizon is evaluating their numbers and sales of their devices day-by-day and won't make a decision until someone at corporate is happy enough with the sales of RAZR/Rezound to make an official move. The best thing we could do, HONESTLY, is go out and buy RAZR/Rezounds to play with, keep them in mint-condition (rent them, as Black_Man_X suggested). Black_Man_X said to do this for a REASON - if thousands of us go buy the RAZR/Rezound right now, Verizon's sales of those phones will look artificially wonderful - and it could spur them to pull the trigger on the Nexus. All we have to do is chalk up the $35 restock fee, which, in my opinion, isn't that much money. If you can't afford the $35 restock fee, then you probably can't afford the $300 Galaxy Nexus, anyway.Just my thoughts - but some things are adding up when you look at things from this view.

Well what I meant was I only pay $10 for unlimited data, but I'm pretty sure I will start having to pay the normal $30 if I move to LTE so thays where I got the extra $20 a month from.

wow really? You should maybe look into buying the device outright then if you get to keep your $10 unlimited data plan. That's $480 over 2 years, plus whatever you might save in the future if you could continue to keep that plan.

Edit: Unless of course you can keep your amazing $10 data plan while using the upgrade.

This is aggravating me a lot, so:

You CAN transfer files to your computer through USB from your Galaxy Nexus, and vice versa. USB mass storage isn't the only transfer type and people are freaking out about this "half-lie"; no, it doesn't support USB mass storage, but yes it supports MTP, another file transfer protocol.

So chill out, you can still transfer files over USB from your computer.

Myth, DEBUNKED.

I vote with Han to be reasonable, even if vzw seems like they are not.

Ok, a real question about the phone itself.

I have always had good luck with Moto phones in regard to actual phone calls. When I have used other brands in the past, the inevitable Moto replacement has always held signal much better in fringe areas (the back of my basement, for example) and for me, have always had superior performance as a phone.

I have never owned a Samsung phone. I hear very mixed reviews on HTC's as a phone. I tend to choose Moto, always assuming a Moto phone will be better, as a phone.

With your varied experience, what is y'all's educated opinion about how this Samsung Galaxy Nexus will perform as a phone as compared to other recent Samsung, HTC, and Moto phones?

No matter how good the device is otherwise, it must function well as a phone for me.

Opinions, please?

From my experience the Motorolas always seem to have better radios in them. Connectivity issues are far less...certainly far less than Samsungs I've had (like the dismal Charge). Likewise the dismal GPS hardware/software in the Samsungs. I still haven't owned a Samsung that would lock on with any degree of quickness or accuracy like my Bionic or my prior Iphone.

I also find call quality to be better on the Motorolas. They just sound more natural to me.

It really does surprise me that people don't take things like this into account more than they do. I remain very concerned about the radio in the upcoming Nexus.

Truth be told, if the Razr already had ICS, it would be absolutely no contest in my mind, the Razr hands down, I wouldn't even be looking at a Samsung phone. I just have much more faith in Motorola hardware than Samsung. YMMV.

CK made his choice for the RAZR, is happy about it, and we should all support him. Not just for his choice, but also for a lot of effort and enthusiasm, and even more reality checks :D early on in this thread. He was one of us from the beginning.

I honestly believe he was coming in here for some words of encouragement, not to gloat. So we should keep the tone friendly.

CK has been using cellular forums for a long time. He cruises them all from time to time.
He can be kind of blunt and if one is pretty thin skinned and reads the wrong thing into it they will whimper.
He and I have in common that we don't put stock into things unless they are pretty much a proven fact. And sometimes we call it like we see it and we get the ricochets'.

Gloat? All in fun I'm sure.

Do not feel dirty, I bought a Xoom release day, return within 10 days and bought an iPad. Best decision I made all year. 3 weeks later bought a Macbook pro and now typing this on my Macbook Air. Apple makes awesome products. Android tablets are not even close, yet. :D And BTW I am HARDCORE ANDROID. Moved my company from Blackberries to Android and about 2 dozen friends. Without that other company we would have fewer and less competitive choices.
I love my iPad except the lack of Flash.
I actually have never owned an Android device, I will be going from a Blackberry Storm to the Nexus, my upgrade was in May and I originally was waiting for an iPhone 5 if it was 4g after the 4s was announced I did some research and decided to wait on the Nexus. After having to battery pull 4-5 times a day on my BB this phone can't come out soon enough.

An interesting point you bring up. (might be ninja'ing myself here)

What if the razr launched with ICS? I have to stop and think about that one and I bet a lot of rezound users would too (well not the diehard sense fans)

I really do not mind the flash, thought I would but have not really noticed.

Also check out my website, Blackberry to Android Start at the end (first posts) it may help you out.

Ok guys. I've been thinking about the whole Verizon being tight lipped about release date and the 16gb vs 32gb thing logically and here are some thoughts as to why we may have the blame directed entirely in the wrong direction..... as much as I hate Verizon it may actually not be their fault.

Do you guys really think Verizon is just sitting on a stock pile of these phones and they aren't saying anything about them to sell other devices (that yield the same contract dollars) while pissing us off? I don't think so. If the phones are done and plentiful, why is the UK having issues with them not being availible until december 1st and no sight of a 32gb model (pre-order only)

Google Samsung Galaxy Nexus 32GB (Black) Deals, #GALNEXUS32 - Expansys.com UK
notice this site has the 16gb only availible on December 1st and the 32gb model with no release date.

I think Verizon chose to only offer the 32gb model (which is a good thing) and Google/Samsung for some reason is only producing the 16gb model right now and Verizon is still waiting for the 32gb stock to come in and the hold up is on Google/Samsungs end. Verizon refuses to give a launch date because they dont have one!! they still have not received their stock and don't want to give a date they can't hit. All the while, google/samsung are laughing their ass off while we direct our anger at Verizon while the real problem is probably with google/samsung.

would explain why the developer models were only 16gb, if what p3droid is true and the developer LTE devices are 16gb.

I feel we need to start directing our agravation towards Google/Samsung.

Matias is a naught boy then. He gave the indication on the Verge that we are just waiting on Verizon to give a release date when he said "I don't want to steal the partner's thunder" when asked about a release date.

So I'm one of the lucky people who was able to get the $10 unlimited data deal awhile back. The G Nex sounds like an amazing device. However getting it means that I will most likely lose the discount, and I'm just not sure if I'm ready to lose that at this moment. So my question is for those of you that have used 4g do you think it would be worth the extra $20 a month.

I know I can only really answer this I'm just looking for opinions.

Generally Verizon only "forces" you to change calling plans when you are moving from a regular phone to a smartphone or vice versa. If you already have data on your plan, I highly doubt that you would be required to make any change that would cause you to lose your current pricing just because you got a new phone and extended your contract 2 more years. 3G vs 4G makes no difference. Now on the other hand, if you decided to drop data for a while to save money -- there would be no way to get that price again. Just make sure when you get a new phone that you make it very clear to the sales rep that you do NOT want to change your calling plan. I've heard of people with cheaper plans from companies acquired by Verizon being able to keep their plans for a very long time.

From the article: "On Linux and Mac it's sadly not as easy, but I have confidence that we'll see some work to make this better." -- yeah, not likely anybody's using a Linux box to do Android development with the "developer's special" GNex, eh?

To be fair if you're doing development it's trivial to use adb to push and pull anything you want from anywhere within the filesystem.

But you have no proof that this is the case whatsoever, so you're just speculating and assuming that it's actually not Verizon's fault at all.
