ok what is going on. I am overclocked to 800 and my home screens are still sluggish. apps open up fast and everything but home screens are faster then 550 but STILL sluggish. what gives. Even at 1000 i can still see some sluggishness. Are you guys experiencing this? I know a lot of people are saying, no lag at all but im still getting lag. Im running 2.1APK file for the home screens but even when i switch to the smoked glass home screens i still get some sluggishness. I have maybe 2 widgets total on my home screens and about 10 or 14 apps or so on 2 of the screens. or can i not run that many app icons on the home screens?

Any ideas. am i doing something wrong, or what? the slugishness is not horrible but it's still there. i thought the OC would fix this issue.

Can't say for the 2.1 launcher because I refuse to use it, but the 2.0.1 launcher is pretty quick for me, even with 5 screens full of widgets (at both 800 and 1000).

Do you have ATK? What is your free RAM?

The sluggish homescreen is inherent to all high res Android devices, the Nexus One included, since Google is not using the GPU to accelerate it, our CPUs are the ones being taxed. The OC should have helped, but other factors, such as low memory could be in play.

whats ATK? the notepad?

I downloaded taskkiller to see what my memory was and it says my memory is at 44

What is your memory at? what app do you use to check your memory?

And i thought android is suppose to free up ram on it's own when it needs more power?

So does the Iphone have a GPU then? their screens are fast and SMOOTH.

Advanced Task Killer (Free) is the one I'm using to check my memory. I'm usually around mid 40's as well.

While lots of people will tell you to just let Android manage your memory for you, I don't see how it can hurt to use ATK to do it when you feel your phone is being sluggish, just make sure to disable it from auto starting, and also include it in its kill list.

As for comparisons with the iPhone...where to start. The iPhone interface is nice and smooth because it's so simple (I don't mean that in a good way). I mean it's a bunch of STATIC icons. It's the equivalent of us scrolling through our app drawers (not even), or scrolling through our contacts.

As for the GPU in the Droid, it is the same one as in the 3GS, just hardly being put to work at all.

Mine use to be so sluggish that it made me think about my WM days. However after searching and finally putting the questions out there in this Thread I received the help I needed. Since than I have not had a FC, nor is my Droid running sluggish at all. I would suggest re-flashing and this time uncheck the2.1 Launcher there is a real serious problem with that. I settled for the Smoked Glass without the 3D App animation, I still have my five screens and everything is lightning speed.

i picked 2.1(glass Theme), is that the 2.1 launcher? However i downloaded the 2.1 Launcher APK from droidforums.com not sholes. I then deleted 2.1 APK from my phone and am still getting sluggish screens. My memory did go up by 10 points though after deleting the APK. hmmm.

...................

would it be possible for Sholes to boost the GPU usage or no? just wondering. This screen lag is just driving me crazy, i can't take it. im so OCD about this. haha.

.....................

also when you say Flash, what do you mean? Do you mean go back to stock and then reinstall?
